Organizations are investigating emerging technologies – cloud platforms, blockchain, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, etc. – to develop and deliver innovative products and services. The MSIS Enterprise Systems concentration, which focuses on digital innovation, prepares students to excel and add value to organizations. Our curriculum has evolved across all programs to develop the talent that will lead these organizations through their digital transformation journey.

Immersive and experiential learning opportunities are embedded in every course. Our programs emphasize experiential learning. Our faculty are leaders in research and practice, whose work with the business community generates unique opportunities for our students. Students study ground-breaking research directly from leading researchers, while engaging in immersive, practical learning through corporate sponsored projects. Digital Co-innovation Lab In partnership with SAP®, Robinson’s Department of CIS is creating a Next-Gen Digital Co-Innovation Lab. The lab will provide opportunities for students to engage with professionals and gain experience using the latest technologies. Students will design and develop innovative solutions to real-world problems. Boot Camps In addition to program coursework requirements, the department organizes numerous one-day and multi-day boot camps on emerging topics (e.g., design thinking) and technologies (e.g., blockchain, machine learning and mobile app development). These boot camps, taught by leading experts in academia and practice, provide students with unique learning experiences.
Increased network connectivity and use of personal devices are making data increasingly available and accessible. As a result, private and public organizations alike are constantly pursuing digital innovation options, both as it relates to internal process as well as to their relationships to clients and business partners. Mark Keil, John B. Zellars Professor of Computer Information Systems, received the 2018 PMI Research Achievement Award, recognizing the contributions made by his substantial published body of academic research to the advancement of the project management field.
Veda C. Storey, Tull Professor of Computer Information Systems and Professor of Computer Science, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Entity Relationship Conference. Her research interests are in conceptual modeling, intelligent information systems, big data, and design science research. She has published in MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, ACM Transactions on Data Bases, and Data and Knowledge Engineering.

Preparing Tomorrow’s Industry Leaders
Robinson students are recognized for their contribution to the field I was looking for a career change while working as a java consultant in India for clients such as Wellington Wealth Management (Boston) and European Exchange (Germany). Robinson’s MSIS program offered the perfect blend of technical and functional courses, while learning from a world-class faculty in a highly ranked institution. Most helpful to me was the exposure to cuttingedge technologies such as big data analytics, machine learning and data visualization, as well as process innovation, enterprise architecture and IT project management. This knowledge and experience differentiated me from my peers and helped me to stand out from the crowd. Mona Mona, Solutions Architect-Amazon Web Services I came to Robinson wanting an interdisciplinary master of science degree. The MSIS program – which integrates computer science, engineering, business, mathematics, and statistics – provided the knowledge and skills I wanted. The courses have helped me gain the required technical expertise in analytics and the current trends in big data analysis. As a part of my research assistantship, I worked on a machine learning natural language processing project to link U.S. Congress members’ affiliations to determine slant in their speeches, while harvesting and text mining ten years’ worth of congressional record data. While I benefited from the heavy technical training, I believe that the greatest takeaway from this degree is developing the soft skills. Strong soft skills ensure a productive, collaborative and healthy work environment in today’s increasingly competitive world.
