Changing The World With A Youth’s Perspective

Come hear how a youth took his middle school experience and turned it into a county-wide initiative to prevent bullying. This is not just another club, it includes a three-year curriculum with certification, mentor program and a future youth summit. The partnership with Bulloch County’s DFC will also be highlighted if you would like to increase your youth organization sector.

Equity-Focused Literacy Leadership in Practice Through an American Library Association Collaborative Grant Initiative

Anne Katz, PhD, Georgia Southern University, Savannah, GA Vivian Bynoe, MLIS, Georgia Southern University, Savannah, GA A reading professor and university librarian collaborated with a middle school literacy leadership group to read, discuss, and write about stories that explored questions of race, identity, history, and social justice through an American Library Association grant initiative. The titles were selected to inspire young people to consider “big questions” about the world around them and their place in it. Participating teens also took part in storytelling sessions with a local community leader.
