LEADERSHIP CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Good leadership is a learned skill. Coming into a leadership position can be daunting. No matter what industry you are in it is important to understand the different approaches and tools you need to effectively lead others.
The leadership certificate program is designed for individuals who have moved into a supervisory or management position. They know their particular work area but are new to management skills. This course deals with two components that can lead to effective leadership: one is human, the other is compliance. On the human side, skills and traits are developed and taught to be able to influence and impact the workers you are supervising to get the best out of them. Developing skills such as becoming a strong communicator and listener can play a huge role in effective and positive leadership. “The biggest common theme that runs through all of the different sessions is communication. And one of the most important parts of being a strong communicator is learning how to listen and identify what the problem is and the white noise in the background. Figure out what really needs to be done, and then address that,” Instructor Stephanie Sipe, J.D.. On the other side, this course deals with compliance issues which covers what is imposed upon us by the government and government agencies and making sure that as managers and supervisors you are acting as an agent for your employees. This course is taught by Georgia Southern faculty members and industry experts. Sipe, one of the instructors, has been teaching at Georgia Southern since 2005 and has taught close to 100 different sessions. Sipe strives for an active learning environment within the course.
"Each of the sessions focuses on activities and self-assessments, we use learning games and role-playing technique, all kinds of scenarios rather than just lecturing. We look at

the employers that are sending their employees to us and what they do. It's not just an out-of-the-box course, it has been customized [for companies like SNF Holding] for their particular needs," Sipe says. Becoming a strong and effective leader does not have to be intimidating. The leadership certificate program will help you gain the skills needed to become a successful leader!
