If a student wishes to appeal a sanction, he or she may appeal to the appropriate person as follows:
a. Level 1 infractions may be appealed in writing to the person who assigned the sanction.
Appeals must be made within 24 hours of notification of the sanction. If it is decided the appeal should be upheld, the student’s record will be changed; i.e., the infraction will not count. If the appeal is denied, the sanction will be served on the date assigned, or, if the sanction has been postponed, a new date and time (the next day, if possible) will be set.
The decision will be final. b. Level 2 infractions levied by a Residence Life Coordinator or any other faculty or staff member may be appealed to the Dean of Students (or the Senior Vice President for
Residential for academic matters) or his or her designee in writing within 24 hours of notification of the sanction. The decision will be final. Appeals of Level 2 infractions levied by the Dean of Students must be made to the Vice President for Student
Development or his or her designee in writing within five days of notification of the sanction. Verbal statements of intent to appeal are not acceptable. c. Students and parents who wish to appeal sanctions imposed by the Judicial Council that are not suspension should make their request in writing to the GSSM President within five days of notification of the sanction. The President will designate a member of Senior
Administration to consider the appeal. In some cases, the President may decide to review the matter.
H. Legal Charges
Legal charges may also result from any offense noted above that is a criminal act. Any disciplinary action by GSSM may be in addition to any penalty imposed in the criminal courts.
