Save the Date for the GSSEF Administrative Headquarters Grand Opening Celebration Are you excited to see our new Administrative Headquarters in Lake Worth? We are too!

Construction is already underway and it’s time to SAVE THE DATE for the GSSEF Administrative Headquarters Grand Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, February 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (immediately following the Annual Meeting).

This all-ages celebration will feature Girl Scout traditions, building tours and surprises! We will have more details to share soon.

Upon her return to South Florida, Jennifer registered her youngest daughter in a new Daisy troop. The Blazing Star Service Unit troop had 24 girls. Like a Girl Scout, she jumped right in and became the troop’s co-leader. With the help of many volunteers, the troop finished the year with a bridging ceremony and development of a new Brownie troop. When her eldest daughter’s Cadette troop was not able to continue, she started a new Cadette troop. It now has eight girls who are beyond excited to grow and continue. She continues to share her love of Girl Scouts and her experience with many girls and volunteers. Jennifer’s commitment to growing girls of courage, confidence, and character shines through.

After participating in Girl Scouts as a Brownie, Jennifer Negreira knew she wanted her daughters to experience all that Girl Scouts offers, too. So, in 1997 she started her first Daisy troop with ten girls including her oldest daughter.

She was actively involved with her local council as a trainer, recruiter, and even a cookie chair. Soon after, she started another troop when her middle daughter joined Girl Scouts, as well.

*Girls 8 and over will participate in archery. A fun program alternative is available for girls 7 and under.

Cozy Feets & Covered Seats Extended Until November 15 The deadline for Cozy Feets & Covered Seats, our Council-wide community service project has been extended to November 15. All troops are encouraged to collect and donate socks, underwear and diapers for our neighbors in need. For additional information, click here.

SWE Fish Like a Girl Workshop: December 9

Calendar

The local chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is hosting a Fish Like a Girl Workshop* on December 9 at the River Center in Jupiter from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Girls will learn the basics of fishing including knot tying, tackle, and casting. Other topics that will be covered include: conservation, regulations, fish anatomy (dissection), and fish identification. And, of course, girls will be fishing, too.

Each participating girl will receive a GSSEF exclusive patch. To receive your Cozy Feets, Covered Seats patch, you must complete the online donation form by November 15 at 11:59 p.m.

10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Registration begins at 9:30 am) $18 per girl, $10 per adult Camp Welaka is a magical place where Girl Scouts of all ages can enjoy the beauty of nature and the fun of being outdoors. During this program participants discover what has made Camp Welaka special for many generations of past campers. Canoe Lake Akalew, try archery*, go on a treasure hunt hike, enjoy tasty treats made on a campfire, design a nature inspired memento, give back with a camp inspired service project and so much more await during this fun for all day. All attendees will have the opportunity to participant in activities, but to ensure that as many girls as possible are able to participate, troops should only register required girl/adult ratio.

Take the pledge between November 1 and November 15, 2017, and tell us how your troop is working to advance the G.I.R.L. Agenda in your community. The agenda is our nationwide initiative to elevate every voice in the advancement of girls’ leadership and status in the world. By pledging to add at least one new girl to your troop, you’ll help even more girls spark positive change through civic action.

Did you know the average Girl Scout troop only has eight girls? Yet GSUSA research shows that the most successful and durable troops have 12 girls on average (among the many factors that lead to troop success). Just imagine what could happen if Troop Leaders— especially those with fewer than 12 girls—added at least one new girl to their troop.

Not only would more girls be able to participate in Girl Scouts, but we’d grow membership substantially while stemming any remaining declines.

What Your Troop Can Win Once the pledge closes, 600 prize winners will be randomly selected to receive a FREE limited-edition G.I.R.L. Agenda patch for their troop. In addition, four grand prize winners will be randomly selected to have GSUSA share their story on Facebook (on Thanksgiving!), as well as receive the patch for their troop. SWEET! Don’t sweat it—we’ll give you the tools to make it happen. Once you complete the pledge, check your email inbox for some articles and resources you can share with your friends and family to introduce them to the power of Girl Scouting, and spread the word that you’re looking for more girls to join your troop!

Even though the girls have turned in their order cards for nuts, candy and coupon books, they have 3 more weeks to participate and take orders online through the Fall Product Online Program.

If your troop has not registered, you can easily do this now by following here.

Sending out emails to friends and family members is a proven method to increase your online sales. Girls can also earn patches just by doing that. There is a patch to be earned for 15, 25 and 100 emails. And if girls send out 30 emails and sell 30 items they can earn the Goal Achiever Patch.

There, you can help the girls in your troop set up their personalized Online Store, send emails to family and friends and start selling. The Online order program teaches girls online marketing skills. The 59-Minute Quick-Start Program is a Fun Troop Activity The 59-minute quick-start program is a fun meeting component. The program comes with a special patch for all the participants (and a $20 gift card for all the leaders!) and the guidelines can be found in the flyer here.

The deadline for the free patches and card is October 30th.

A Take Action Opportunity: November 18 The Treasure Coast Chapter of the Florida Association of Environmental Professionals (TCC-FAEP) invites you to join them in cleaning up Boynton Beach Oceanfront Park on Saturday, November 18 at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers will remove litter from the public beach alongside members of the TCC-FAEP and have the opportunity to engage in conversations about the environment and environmentrelated careers. Girls will also be able to tour and learn about the sand transfer plant located at the Boynton Beach Inlet. For additional information, see the flyer.

Gloves, garbage bags, and water will be provided. Volunteers will meet by the restroom facilities. Please ensure all girl-to-adult ratios are met and your day trip travel application is submitted 14 days prior to the event: Ocean Inlet Park 6990 N. Ocean Blvd.
