ynne Pisano joined GSSEF, new to Florida, in 2012 as a Troop Leader for Troop #10221 in New River. Her enthusiasm and happiness have led her to lend a hand and volunteer at many of the council events as well, where she enjoys participating with her troop. An avid photographer, Lynne also assists with some of the pictures that appear about the council and Service Unit events. Thank you, Lynne!

t’s time to update our Cookies for the Military campaign materials.

We’d love to take photos of members of the military (in uniform) with Girl Scouts for use during the 2015 campaign. If you are a member of the military or know someone that is and are interested, please email Melinda Glasco at mglasco@gssef.org. Also if you have any photos of your girls with members of the military, please send those in as well.

isa Cook has been a Troop Leader for Troop #10501 since her daughter started 14 years ago. She began as a co-leader, stepped into a leadership role and since 2003, has continued to volunteer both as a Troop Leader and as the Service Unit Volunteer Manager for Sea Breeze Service Unit in South Broward. She is also a Canoe Trainer for adults - sharing her love and belief in the Girl Scout mission. Thank you, Lisa!

Hey Leader! Camp-Tastic is coming!

irl Scouts of Southeast Florida will present Camp-Tastic! on Saturday, December 6 at Camp Welaka. We are looking for adult volunteers to join the planning committee and be present at the event to facilitate programs for girls and their families. Previous outdoor activities and programs at Camp-Tastic! have included: archery, canoeing, outdoor cooking, hiking, SWAPS making, arts and crafts, knife skills, compass skills, sit-upon making, sing-a-longs, scavenger hunts and fishing. new gluten-free Girl Scout cookie will debut during the 2015 Cookie Sale. Unlike our other varieties, GSSEF will have to place a firm, non-returnable order for these by October 1.

They also cost more, so we are turning to you for guidance. The week of September 2, look for a survey where you can commit to your troop’s order for the gluten-free cookie. This order will be a firm commitment on the part of your troop and will help us gauge how many additional cases we should order. Also note that due to the increased cost, these cookies will be $5 per box. All other varieties will remain $4 per box. All troops should download and review the Gluten-Free Cookie Information and Guidelines here and be ready to respond to the survey in a couple of weeks.

Neglecting to respond may mean your troop will not have access to these cookies in January.

ove camping? Want to go with your troop? Then TCT is for you! Completion of Girl Scout TCT is required by one adult volunteer in your troop in order for your girls to go camping.

Adult & Leader Highlights

reat question, dahling! There is no “official” adult uniform. Adults are afforded some flexibility and some stylish options when it comes to getting their Girl Scout look on.

Adult members are in uniform when they wear their membership pins, which include the Girl Scout Pin (either the Traditional or Contemporary version) and the World Trefoil Pin. These can be placed on an Adult Insignia Tag or worn on the lapel of a suit.

Navy blue is the color of the official uniform for adults. This can be a navy suit for formal occasions, a navy sweater, all the way to a navy polo with khakis for less formal occasions.

Adult members can achieve a “unifying look” with their uniforms by wearing an official Girl Scout scarf or tie for men, worn with the official membership pins, combined with their own navy blue business attire. For a diagram of where to place your pins, click here.

In addition, there are also a variety of Girl Scout T-shirts you can purchase or even create with your girls that will identify you as a member of the Girl Scout family. On the flip side, adults should never wear any girl uniform component. So that means no vests, no sashes and no beanies. Sorry ladies! If you’ve amassed a collection of participation patches you may want to sew them onto a denim shirt you can wear over a T-shirt or sew them on a tote bag. Either way, you’re able to display your commitment and highlight some of the fun you’ve had while remaining within the uniform guidelines.

ant to empower your girls, do activities the girls want and have the girls take a more active role in planning? This is the online class for you! We will provide you with the knowledge and tools to allow your girls to lead.

n archery certified adult is required for your girls to experience this fantastic sport. You'll learn how to set up and operate a safe short-term archery program, how to teach new archers, how to maintain program equipment and learn common shooting errors and correction, which may also help your own skills. After taking this class, you will be able to treat your troop (or other troops) to an archery experience.

Girl Scouts ROAR at Lion Country Safari!

nnouncements have been sent to all Troop Leaders whose girls qualified for the Lion Country Safari Early Bird reward. Be sure to click the link in your email to complete the registration confirmation for each eligible girl and up to four adult chaperones. All registrations must be completed and submitted by September 8. Your wristbands for attendance and the schedule for the day will be mailed to each troop leader within two weeks of the October 11 event.

The annual “backpack fliers” are now available for distribution to schools in each Service Unit. New materials are also available to help recruit adults to be troop leaders.
