She serves as a valued resource for new volunteers and is instrumental in planning and organizing Service Unit events and activities. For over a decade, Jeannie has been a Council Delegate, and frequently represents the Service Unit at council-level meetings.

Celebrate Father’s Day in an
For 21 years and counting, Jeannie Horvath has been a dedicated GSSEF Girl Scout volunteer. Starting out as her daughter’s Daisy Troop Leader, she soon became involved in the Everglades Service Unit, serving in many different Service Unit team positions. After seeing her daughter and their Troop to the Ambassador level and high school graduation, Jeannie continued to be an irreplaceable volunteer for Everglades Service Unit and GSSEF. As the Everglades Service Unit Recruiter, she demonstrates her ongoing commitment to bringing more girls into Girl Scouts and has introduced and welcomed hundreds of girls and families.

Take Me Out to A Ball Game – June 3rd Join in the fun as Girl Scouts cheer on the Palm Beach Cardinals in a baseball game against the Fort Myers Miracles at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter on Saturday, June 3rd at 4 p.m. Enjoy a pre-game parade, the baseball game, and an optional campout on the outfield! Our Foundation is YOU! Essay Contest There are two definitions for the word foundation; it is “the lowest load-bearing part of a building, typically below ground level” and “an underlying basis or principle for something.” As GSSEF looks forward to our move into a new administrative headquarters, we have an opportunity for our membership to become a special part of both of these definitions of the word.
We invite you to become a part of this next step for our Council by contributing to both the ”underlying below ground level” of this building and our “underlying basis” for our work within it. Adult volunteers and girl members are asked to answer one of the questions below with a short essay.
We hope you share this with all of the volunteers and girls you know (and love) so everyone can be a part of our foundation, again, this summer!
Membership
One adult volunteer essay and one girl member essay will be selected to represent all of GSSEF as the foundation of our new venture. Your words will live forever, sealed and placed into our actual foundation, before the new concrete is poured. Winners will be announced in July. We will invite the two winners to join our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Grand Opening Celebration (in 2018) to read their essays.

The building we have purchased for the new GSSEF administrative headquarters is unfinished on the first floor. Some of the first elements of the customization and build-out process this summer will be to lay the foundation for the first floor. We are taking this unique opportunity to reflect on our work as a staff team and remember why we need an office in the first place. The answer is: you! Our members are the foundation on which all of our ideas, plans, tactics, goals and successes are built.
Essay submissions should not exceed 300 words. Contest entries should be sent to: foundation@gssef.org between June 1 – 30, 2017.

We Can’t Wait to Hear From You –Girl Scout Council level and Service Unit level Volunteers We know how important volunteers are to the success of Girl Scouting, and we want to hear from you! Girl Scouts of the USA is conducting a national pilot survey of Council level and Service Unit level Volunteers to better understand your role and what you think is working, and not working, in Girl Scouts. We will use your feedback to improve our services and support. The survey is open through May 31st. Membership Update Congrats to Service Units achieving 100% of Their Membership Goals While the current Girl Scout membership year is still going strong until September 30th, we’d like to congratulate all the Service Units that met 100% of their membership goals. For reaching their membership goals, these Service Unit Team’s earned the opportunity to enjoy a luncheon with our CEO, Lisa Johnson! As you know, GSSEF established three membership goal incentives throughout the year that Service Units have the opportunity to earn different rewards based on specific benchmarks that they meet. Congratulations are in order for the following Service Units that achieved 100%: Gemini, Sea Star, Jupiter, Luna, Hibiscus, Wildflower Way to go! Remember, just because the incentive program has ended, it doesn’t mean that recruitment and placement have ended as well. We are so close to achieving 100% of our Council membership goal. Let’s continue making GSSEF HERstory! Girl Membership: 10,242 girls, 93% of 11,000 membership goal Adult Membership: 4,922 adults, 94% of 5,200 membership goal

Summertime is Summer Funshine Time Girl Scouts can have fun and do cool things all year long. Summer Funshine provides an opportunity to do some things your troop didn’t have the time or resources to do during the school year, and is an excellent opportunity to introduce bridging Girl Scouts to the rest of the girls in the troop. In addition, the program encourages retention of our girl members.
2017 To earn the Summer Funshine patch or bar, troops must participate in three activities 2018 (one per month) during June, July, and August. Check out the requirements here.
