We would like to say “THANK YOU” to our family, friends and customers for taking the time and showing interest and support for our program. We always find it hard to write something new for the Welcomes for our sale every year. Things change year to year but it always seems like everybody wants to talk about the bad. Not us here, we talk about the good things and the things we love. That’s why we are in the cattle business, because we love it. The family is doing good, staying healthy and growing like crazy. *** I said “Growing” and not “Expanding!” *** Other then that, not much has changed around the ranch. We have always tried to raise those cattle that calve easy, have the ability to grow, and the quality to sell. We strive to make those bulls that you need to improve your herd and make you more profit. Whether it is a calving ease bull, power cow bull, or somewhere in between, we will help you find that bull to suit your specific needs. With the huge increase in cows hitting the slaughter market, I see a huge upside to calf prices in the fall. As I’m writing this, we can lock calves in for the fall for around $2000. Hopefully prices keep increasing and hold on for a few years to come. That might get you into thinking on keeping some more replacement females or expanding the cow herd. If so, then once again, MJM Enterprises has offered up another very strong set of females. There will be 30 replacement heifers and 30 first calf heifer pairs. Coffee is always on at the farm. We encourage everyone to stop by the farm and view the cattle at anytime prior to the sale. If you are interested in something and can’t attend the sale, please let us or any of the sale staff know and we would be happy to assist you. We look forward to seeing you on March 24.

SIGHT UNSEEN PURCHASES If you are unable to attend the sale and wish representation, please let any of the sale staff know and they will be happy to assist you. For sight unseen purchases we guarantee satisfaction upon delivery.

DELIVERY Golden Sunset will rebate $150/lot OR if you live over 150km away, will rebate $1/loaded km/ lot if taken home within 7 days of sale. We will start delivery 1 week after sale to central points in Western Canada. Transport of bulls not taken on scheduled delivery runs will be the buyers responsibility. For bulls headed to the Eastern provinces, the transport cost will be the responsibility of the buyer. Rebate for bull purchases only.

USA DELIVERY Golden Sunset will assist in arrangements for the cattle to be shipped to wherever you are in the US, at the buyers cost. All bulls sold to the USA will be charged an additional $250/bull to cover testing and border crossing cost. Payment for export cattle must be 50% prior to testing and the balance will be due prior to shipping.

PAYMENT OPTIONS Payment is cash or cheque payable par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until settlement is made in full. Please call Kyle prior to the sale if you would like to make alternate arrangements.

RIGHT TO SEMEN Golden Sunset reserves the right to collect semen at Golden Sunsets expense and the buyer’s convenience. Any semen collected will be for Golden Sunsets in herd use only, unless specified in the terms of a sale lot.

HOOF TRIMMING No feet have been trimmed on any of the sale bulls.
•
BULL WARRANTY All bulls are guaranteed breeders. All bulls are semen tested and vet inspected, and under a full herd health program. The standard CAA guarantee applies. We do not warranty against injury or illness after the sale, and encourage the use of insurance for that purpose. If the bulls are left at the farm, insurance is recommended. Golden Sunset will have replacement bulls on hand to cover your breeding season should you have any issue with your bull. Under no circumstances shall Golden Sunset be responsible for more than the purchase price of the said animal.

PURCHASER’S RISK Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. In an effort to protect the buyer’s interest, we strongly recommend insuring the bulls. An insurance agent will be available sale day.

His calves generally have a higher BW but still calve easy. We have used him on select heifers and have had no trouble, but do recommend his sons as cow bulls. CE

When you’re married to a rancher... 1. Buy the industrial wash machine. It will hold up better when faced with manure, bolts, grease, and fencing staples. 2. Learn how to cook. I don’t mean you have to be Betty Crocker, but you’ll be glad to know how to make something hearty to eat, especially after working cows, or haying, or during calving season. And, it goes for both of you... Not just the Mrs... 3. Thick skin and a sense of humor are non-negotiable. 4. A “minute” in his vocabulary does not equal the same sixty seconds in yours. 5. Date nights may look like a six pack cooler on the front seat and bags of mineral in the back end of an ATV or pickup, and a drive to see cattle. Don’t expect flowers. 6. Plans are made to be broken. 7. Always pack twine, rope, or an extra lead rope if you can’t close gates. Leaving a gate open because you couldn’t close it will not make you very popular. 8. Mistakes will be laughed at. You will be teased for not swathing in a straight line, for falling off your horse, and for getting covered in cattle manure. See #3. 9. Don’t make faces behind each other’s backs unless you are willing to accept the consequences when you get caught. Love might look different when you love a rancher, but so long as you don’t mind a little dirt, vacations that include bull sales and stock shows, and explaining why your kids know so much about reproduction, it is a pretty great life to share with your best friend. -Richelle, The Prairie Crocus Blog & Photography 26

30 Cow-Calf Pairs
A s I sit and write this, I think about the calving season
thus far and the year ahead of us. The calves have been born strong, healthy, and with very few calving problems. A thank-you to our bull suppliers for bulls with excellent performance while still providing moderate birth weights. The weather has had lots of extremes with some very cold nights to some very warm days, but at least the cold nights did not last too long. The moisture (yes moisture – rain and snow) has been extreme. Snow banks are high and the bale yard is taking a beating trying to keep the bedding packs warm and dry. But what a welcome site the snow is after the dry year we had last. The spring run off should fill some sloughs and dugouts and get the grass off to a much-needed good start. Again, we will be offering groups of five home-raised open replacement heifers. Also, there will be packages of five first calf heifers with Jan/Feb calves at side. We have had very positive feedback on the exceptional quality and productivity of the animals we sold. One customer who purchased two groups of the first calvers sold the calves in late September weighing in at 797lbs. We feel the genetics we have built our herd on is a direct result from the bulls we purchase. The calves on our first calf heifers are all sired by bulls purchased from Kyle & Sarah at Golden Sunset Ranch and Y-Coulee Land & Cattle Co. I would also like to take time to thank family and staff for their hard work and dedication to the job at hand. Because of you, we are here. Thank-you. The alarm just went off. 30 Replacement Heifers
•
All cows and replacement heifers are MJM Enterprises’ home raised and on a full herd health program. They will have had their pre-breeding shot within 1 month prior to sale. Bovi-shield Gold FP5-VL5, Blackleg + Somm, and Backline.

All cows selling are 2 year olds with first calves at side. Calves are sired by Golden Sunset and Y-Coulee Cattle Co. bulls. All cows were vaccinate/boostered with Scour Bos 9 last fall. All calves have received First Defence Tri-Shield at birth. They will also receive Bovi-Shield Gold One Shot, Black leg + Somm, Backline, and Toltrazuril Pills within 1 month prior to sale.

There will be 30 Pairs sorted in to groups of 5. Groups will be sorted for uniformity closer to sale date. Calves will be Jan/Feb born.
•
There will be 30 replacement heifers sorted in groups of 5. Groups will be sorted for uniformity closer to sale date. All replacement heifers will be palpated.
•
All cattle will be at sale location 3 days prior to sale date for viewing or prior to that at the farm. All heifers and pairs must be picked-up and removed from sale location within 24hrs of sale.
