COMPANY bios. Maulik Pancholy (Sam) is an awardwinning actor, author and activist. He is best known for his comedic turns on television playing Jonathan on NBC’s critically acclaimed 30 Rock, Sanjay on Showtime’s Weeds, and Neal on NBC’s Whitney. His recurring and guest starring roles include the upcoming Only Murders in The Building, The Good Fight, Dynasty, Elementary, Star Trek: Discovery, Friends from College, The Good Wife, Web Therapy, The Comeback, and others. He is the voice of Baljeet on Disney’s Phineas and Ferb and the title voice of Sanjay on Nickelodeon’s Sanjay and Craig. novel, The Best at It (Balzer + Bray/ HarperCollins) was named a 2020 Stonewall Honor Book, a 2019 Junior Library Guild Selection, a Chicago Public Library Best of the Best Books, a New York Times “Best Audiobooks for Road Trips with Kids,” and received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly, and the American Library Association’s Booklist. A longtime advocate for the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) and LGBTQIA+ communities, Pancholy was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve on the President’s Advisory Commission on AAPIs. As a Commissioner, he helped launch the anti-bullying campaign ActToChange.org, an organization which he continues to chair today. Act To Change is now a national nonprofit dedicated to ending bullying for AAPI youth and fostering a world where all young people can celebrate their differences. Becky Mode’s (Playwright) first play, Fully Committed, opened at the Vineyard Theatre in 1999 and ran Off-Broadway for a year and a half at the Cherry Lane Theatre. Time Magazine named it one of the ten best plays of 2000, and since 2001 it has been one of the ten most produced plays in the United States, with extended commercial runs in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, London and Paris. The play has traveled to Finland, Japan, South

In 2016, Fully Committed had a limited run on Broadway at the LyceumTheater starring Jesse Tyler Ferguson, directed by Jason Moore. Becky is currently in pre-production on Until the Wedding, a pilot she wrote for ABC. Most recently, she was a writer and co-executive producer on Unbelievable, a limited series for Netflix. Before that, worked as a consulting producer on SEAL Team for CBS and Feed The Beast on AMC and created/ executive produced the pilot of Four Stars for CBS. She has also worked as a consulting producer for Smash (NBC) and A Gifted Man (CBS) and as a writer on Cosby, Little Bill, Out of the Box, and HBO’s A Little Curious. She has developed and produced pilots for HBO, ABC, CBS, and NBC. Before becoming a writer, Becky worked as an actor. She went to graduate school at the American Repertory Theatre Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard. Favorite roles include Ann the librarian in Daisy Mayer’s cult classic Party Girl, Susan Walker in Ann Bogart’s Once in a Lifetime, and the young Jane Seymour in A&E’s I Remember You, opposite Clark Gregg and Daniel J. Travanti. She also spent many years waitressing, coat checking and taking phone reservations at some of New York’s finest restaurants. Becky lives in Brooklyn, NY, with her husband and their two children, Leo and Katie.
David Saint (Artistic Director) is in his 24th season as Artistic Director of George Street Playhouse. He has directed 40 mainstage productions at GSP, having most recently helmed last season’s Conscience in addition to Midwives, The Trial of Donna Caine, American Hero; I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change and An Act of God starring the legendary Kathleen Turner in the 2017-18 season. His time here has been marked by collaborations with such artists as Keith Carradine, Tyne Daly, Rachel Dratch, Sandy Duncan, Boyd Gaines, A.R. Gurney, Uta Hagen, Jack Klugman, Dan Lauria, Kathleen Marshall, Elaine May, Anne Meara, David Hyde Pierce, Chita Rivera, Paul Rudd, Stephen Sondheim, Marlo Thomas, Eli Wallach and many others, including a remarkable partnership with Arthur Laurents. In addition, many new award-winning works have begun their life here during his tenure, such as The Toxic Avenger, Proof, The Spitfire Grill, Joe DiPietro’s Clever Little Lies and It Shoulda Been You. He has directed Final Follies at Primary Stages, Clever Little Lies at Guild Hall in East Hampton, NY, and off-Broadway at Westside Theatre, as well as the National Tour of West Side Story. In July 2016, he directed a two-night concert performance of West Side Story at the legendary Hollywood Bowl. He is the recipient of the Alan Schneider Award, Helen Hayes Award, L.A. Drama Critics Award, several Drama-Logue Awards and is the President of The Laurents/ Hatcher Foundation. Helen Tewksbury (Art Direction) Most recently at George Street Playhouse: Bad Dates. This is Helen’s 7th season as Props Master with the George Street Playhouse. Helen has been a professional Props Master, Artisan, and fine artist in NJ for 12 years. She has worked throughout the country with Premiere Stages, The Paper Mill Playhouse, The State Theater, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, Echo Valley Arts in Vermont, and The Ohio Valley Summer Theatre. Her fine art has been sold at auction to benefit local non-profit theater. She is a proud member of IATSE Local 21.
Michael Boylan (Cinematography and Editing) grew up loving film. The first movie he saw was Star Wars, then it was E.T. and his life changed forever. He started making movies when he was 11 and never stopped. He went to film school in Pittsburgh, PA. After he finished film school, he worked on Jack Hannah’s Animal Adventures and got to travel around the world. When he came home he took what he learned and applied it to producing creative video content for companies that he loved and cared for. He continues to do this every day for companies like The George Street Playhouse, Two River Theater, Manasquan Bank, McCormick Spices and many more. He has won several awards including best short film at Filmone Festival in NJ. He lives in historic Atlantic Highlands, NJ with his wife Kathleen and twins Madison and Mikey and their dogs, Rosie and Marty McFly. Scott Killian (Original Music and Sound Design) Fully Committed marks Scott’s 32nd production with GSP for which he is enormously grateful. Brandon Allmon-Jackson (Production Stage Manager) is a New York based AEA stage manager with a strong passion for storytelling. Originally from Little Rock, AR, he’s traveled the world as Stage & Production Manager onboard the world’s biggest cruise vessel. He ran large-scale productions such as Grease, The Fine Line Aqua Show, and many concerts including Alex Newell and Melissa Ethridge. Other recent credits include The Band’s Visit (First National Tour) and the upcoming rival of Disney’s Aida. Off Broadway: Cyrano (The New Group) and Clown Bar (Pipeline). Regionally: five productions at George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, NJ, Because of Winn Dixie (Arkansas Repertory out of town tryouts), The Circus in Winter (Goodspeed Opera), and Clybourne Park (Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis). Television: Girls5Eva (NBC) and Best of Broadway (NBC). He was a Reginal Emmy nominee for his writing in the Negro League’s documentary special, Black Baseball in Indiana, and is currently in the early process of publishing his debut Afrosteampunk novel. He received his undergrad from Ball State University in Directing & Telecommunications. When not hard at work, Brandon enjoys buying more books than he can read and spending time with family.

The Blanche and Irving Laurie Foundation (Production Sponsor) was established in 1983 by New Brunswick philanthropist Irving Laurie. Bailey (GSP Production Manager) This season marks Mr. Bailey’s 23rd at George Street Playhouse and 16th as its Production Manager, having previously served the Playhouse as Technical Coordinator and Sound and Lighting Manager. Recently for GSP he was Lighting Designer for last season’s production of The Immigrant. Was also Lighting Designer for GSP’s production of Clever Little Lies, which moved to the Guild Hall Theatre in East Hampton and then off-Broadway to the Westside Theatre. His other designs for GSP includes 6 scenic designs and 9 sound designs for GSP’s Educational Touring productions, 28 lighting designs and 40 sound designs for GSP’s mainstage productions. Also, has designed for: Pearl Theatre, Barrington Stage, Premiere Stages, Bickford Theatre, Abingdon Theatre, Strand Theatre, Berkshire Theatre Festival, Two River Theater, Ashlawn Highland Opera, LKB Dance, Randy James Dance, Rand Theater, The Irish Repertory Theatre, Westport Country Playhouse, Long Wharf, Delaware Theatre Company, Jacob’s Pillow, and more. Kelly Ryman (Managing Director) is celebrating her 21st season with George Street Playhouse, having recently led the company through a transformative chapter in its history – overseeing the planning, construction and operations of the move to its interim home on Rutgers Cook Campus in 2017 as well as the move back downtown as a Founding Resident Company of New Brunswick Performing Arts Center. From 2000 to 2013, as the company’s Director of Marketing and Public Relations, she spearheaded promotional efforts that resulted in the top tenhighest grossing productions in the Playhouse’s history, including the hit musical It Shoulda Been You which moved to Broadway in 2015. Off-Broadway, Kelly was a member of the marketing team for The Toxic Avenger, which premiered at George Street Playhouse and went on to win the 2009 Outer Critics’ Circle Award for Best New Musical. Active in the non-profit arts community throughout New Jersey, she was the Central NJ Chair of Jersey Arts Marketers for over a decade. She serves on the Board of Directors of New Brunswick City Center and is an adjunct professor of Arts and Entertainment Business at Mercer County College. Prior to her tenure at George Street Playhouse, Ms. Ryman worked at McCarter Theatre and The Wilma Theater. Kelly was recognized in 2012 by ArtPride NJ with their Leadership Award.

“ ” Restaurant Experience The phrase “five-star restaurant” has perhaps entered common vernacular to describe any restaurant unmatched in food, atmosphere, and service, and some ranking systems, such as Forbes Travel Guide, do rank eateries out of five stars. But did you know the well-known Michelin stars system only awards rankings up to 3? The Michelin Guides are a series of guide books that have been published by French tyre company Michelin for more than a century. Michelin published its very first American guide in 2005, featuring 500 restaurants across New York City and 50 hotels in Manhattan. As of 2013, the guide is published in 14 editions over 23 countries.1 But restaurants do not know when they are being inspected! Michelin reviewers (known as “Inspectors”) are anonymous, and they do not identify themselves, nor do they tell restaurants when they are coming.2 Michelin stars are awarded on standards of food, such as quality of ingredients, technique, and taste. For that reason, Inspectors will not consider decor, ambiance, or overworked reservation managers like Sam leaving them on hold! That said, “comfort and quality” may still be rated from 1 to 5 using a crossed fork and spoon symbol.3
The criteria for Michelin stars is as follows:
“A very good restaurant in its category” (Une très bonne table dans sa catégorie)
“Excellent cooking, worth a detour” (Table excellente, mérite un détour)
“Exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey” (Une des meilleures tables, vaut le voyage).4 Michelin’s 2017 guide to New York’s restaurants features 857 eateries and awarded five 3-star ratings that year.5 But all ratings aside, we know there’s nothing like settling down for a good meal at your very own favorite locale! George Street Playhouse encourages you to support your local dining establishments during this time, including our partners across the city of New Brunswick.
