THEATRE ACADEMY

George Street Playhouse’s Theatre Academy celebrates each student’s creative expression by providing a fun, engaging environment to explore theatre, develop self-confidence, and collaborate with others. Our classes are ideal for students with or without theatre experience.

Family and friends are invited to the final session for a Class Sharing to celebrate the student’s artistry.

Fall Session – IMAGINATION STATION

Imagine a world where anything is possible… As they explore the foundations of theatre, students will use their imaginations to create bold characters and an exciting story for a short, original play!

Winter Session – SNOW SONGS

cost: $200

Explore the joy of musical theatre through songs that celebrate the winter season!

From theatre games to song and dance routines, this fun class will embrace students’ imagination as they learn the foundations of musical theatre.

Spring Session – FABULOUS FABLES

cost: $200

Spring into character! Inspired by a classic children’s folk tale, students will create an original play focusing on the development of character and the magic of ensemble storytelling.

Fall Session – OWN THE STAGE

cost: $200

Founded in ensemble theatre practice, students will explore the artistic choices needed to create an original play. From developing the script, to designing the sets and costumes, to making bold acting choices, students will develop acting techniques as they work together to create a short, original piece of theatre.

Winter Session – YOUTH IMPROV

cost: $200

Anything is possible when you improvise! Students will learn the basic skills of improvisation by playing imaginative theatre games, creating larger than life characters, and thinking on their feet.

Spring Session – INTRO TO MUSICAL THEATRE

cost: $225

Explore the joy of musical theatre! From theatre games to song and dance routines, students will develop a wide range of musical theatre techniques and performance skills.

YOUNG COMPANY

AGES 13 – 18 10:30AM — 12:30PM Fall Session – SING OUT! TEEN MUSICAL THEATRE TECHNIQUE cost: $265

Students will explore a variety of songs, work through the dramatic arcs of musical theatre scenes, and develop emotionally rich characters. By learning a wide spectrum of musical theatre techniques, students will develop their audition and performance skills.

Winter Session – ENTER STAGE LEFT: TEEN SCENE STUDY

cost: $240

Comic monologues and tragic scenes— students will explore their range as actors as they learn how to bring characters fully to life! This fun, imaginative course will develop students’ acting, movement and vocal skills.

Spring Session – THINK FAST: TEEN IMPROV

cost: $240

Students will think on their feet when they enter the exciting world of improvisation.

Comedy? Tragedy? Both? It’s all about making choices when you’re inventing it in the moment. The only rule is to say, “Yes!”

MONDAY EVENING ADULT CLASSES

INTRO / BEGINNER COURSES

AGES 18+

6:30PM — 8:30PM Fall Session – INTRO TO ACTING cost: $225

Designed for students with or without acting experience, this course will guide you through simple acting techniques in movement and voice, explore short scenes, and teach you basic theatre vocabulary. If you’ve always wanted to explore acting for the stage, this is great way to get started!

Winter Session – MONDAY NIGHT IMPROV!

cost: $225

As they explore the foundations of improvisation, students will develop acting, movement, and vocal techniques that focus on the process of bringing a character fully to life. This exciting course provides imaginative, process-oriented training for actors with or without prior experience.

Spring Session – MAINSTAGE SCENE STUDY

cost: $275

This course will explore the foundations of script analysis, characterization, and relationship through an in-depth investigation of a play from George Street Playhouse’s mainstage. Students will read and explore scenes from Larry Shue’s rollicking comic farce, The Nerd. The cost of class includes the script of The Nerd and one ticket to a performance of the production.

ADVANCED COURSES

AGES 18+

6:30PM — 8:30PM NEW CLASS! Fall Session – MAINSTAGE MUSICAL SCENE STUDY cost: $275

This course will explore the foundations of script analysis, characterization, and relationship through an in-depth investigation of a musical from George Street Playhouse’s mainstage. Students will read, sing and explore scenes from Joe DiPietro and Jimmy Robert’s record-breaking, hilarious off-Broadway musical, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. The cost of class includes the script of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change and one ticket to a performance of the production.

Spring Session – MUSICAL THEATRE

cost: $275

This course will explore the foundations of musical theatre. Students will develop a wide range of musical theatre techniques and performance skills as they explore songs, scenes, and dance routines from classic American musicals. Class fee includes sheet music and an accompanist. (Appropriate for students with or without prior experience.)
