WELCOME TO OUR INTERIM HOME: GEORGE STREET PLAYHOUSE AT COLLEGE FARM ROAD! Located just two miles from Livingston Avenue, College Farm Road will be our home for our 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons as the spectacular New Brunswick Performing Arts Center rises on the site of our former theater.

Rendering of the future New Brunswick Performing Arts Center, completion expected in 2019.

Of course, our 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons will continue to feature five high caliber plays and musicals. To inaugurate GSP at College Farm Road, we’ll present I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change — one of off-Broadway’s longest running musicals by Playhouse favorite Joe DiPietro with music by Jimmy Roberts. Newly updated exclusively for George Street Playhouse patrons, you will be the first to see this musical comedy with a fresh, new, contemporary look. Exciting things are happening at George Street Playhouse and there has never been a better time to become a season subscriber. Not only will you receive exclusive priority seating for this season and next, but also at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center.

Please take this opportunity to join me at College Farm Road as we look toward the future! DAVID SAINT Artistic Director

Playhouse favorite Joe DiPietro (The Second Mrs. Wilson, Clever Little Lies and The Toxic Avenger) returns with a fresh, contemporary look at his record-breaking off-Broadway musical, exclusively for George Street Playhouse patrons. The world of dating has evolved, and this newly revisited musical will tackle modern love in all its forms. From the first date, to marriage, children and the twilight years, I Love You... follows the arc of relationships in insightful and hilarious ways.

Book and Lyrics by Joe DiPietro Music by Jimmy Roberts Directed by David Saint October 10 to November 12 “It’s witty, it’s funny and it’s as good as it gets” the new york times I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change is sponsored by The Karma Foundation

“An hour and a half of comedy heaven, and I’d gladly watch it annually.” the new york times

by David Javerbaum Directed by Kevin Cahoon November 28 to December 23 Following His recent sold-out Broadway run, God arrives in New Brunswick! Called “deliriously funny” by The New York Times, God takes human form in An Act of God and doesn’t hold back about what He’s seen and heard. In this hilarious comedy by Emmy Award-winner David Javerbaum (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart), God, along with two archangels, answer many of the deepest (and not so deep) questions that have plagued mankind since Creation.

by Christopher Demos-Brown Directed by David Saint January 30 to February 25

An Iraq war hero’s perfect life starts to unravel when a fellow soldier seeking justice shows up threatening to expose a hidden past. From the author of last season’s American Son, this probing drama shines a light on how America honors its veteran soldiers — as well as the corrupting effect of awards and commendations — and questions what it truly means to be a hero. American Hero joins American Son and a yet-to-be titled new work to create a trilogy of plays that explore American injustice. American Hero is the recipient of the Steinberg Award Citation from the American Theatre Critics Association. “Incisive, amusing, sardonic and finally deeply affecting...This is a playwright who crafts smart, insightful dialogue and memorable characters in service of compelling, engagingly theatrical stories.” miami herald American Hero is sponsored by The Blanche and Irving Laurie Foundation

Francis Biddle, FDR’s Attorney General, Chief Justice of the Nuremberg trials, and fierce opponent of the Japanese internment camps during World War II, is 81 years old — elegant, sharply cantankerous, and trying to put his life in order. In true Pygmalion fashion, when a young, new secretary is hired, the two struggle to communicate but come to understand how two strangers at very different places in their lives can unexpectedly and forever influence each other. Based on playwright Joanna McClelland Glass’ real-life experience as Biddle’s secretary.

“Comic and touching.” the new york times

Trying

“Trying is a portrait of generational reconcilliation. It is enormously bracing theatre.” new york daily news “Exquisitely literate, moving and compelling.” variety

by Joanna McClelland Glass March 13 to April 8

Trying is sponsored by The Blanche and Irving Laurie Foundation

“The audience almost never stops laughing — handkerchiefs wiping away tears of merriment.” variety

by Larry Shue April 24 to May 20 Willum’s birthday party gets a jolt of hilarious excitement when Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-soldier who saved Willum’s life, stops by for a visit. When he realizes that Rick is socially inept and will overstay his welcome with a vengeance, Willum must put together an outrageous plan to rid himself of this wacky GI who came to dinner. A rollicking farce from the author of the award-winning comedy The Foreigner.
