MISSION SITES & ENGAGEMENT GSPC’s Urban Mission Camp immerses participants in a wide range of monitored service activities developed for youth ages 15 to 19. Prior coordination is required for middle-school ages. Activities include assisting the physically and mentally challenged as well as engaging with those who cannot provide for themselves due to circumstances of age, income or family. Campers may participate in a highly supervised tour of a county jail facility and receive age-appropriate presentations about the issues involved with integrating people back into society who have been released from incarceration. They will help provide food, clothing, and goods to the poor, indigent, and homeless. Camp participants may work alongside young people in recovery from addiction, learning about the terrible costs of addiction and spiritual focus of recovery. They may also be involved in environmental activities, with presentations and discussions about the increased sensitivity to environmental issues in urban areas by those in the most needy situations. Urban Mission Campers may work with: L’Arche of Mobile Dumas-Wesley Community Center The Neighbor Center & Mobile County Jail Feeding the Gulf Coast Light of the Village Wings of Life Mobile Baykeeper
