J OBS UPDATE Core Technology Molding Corporation Core Technology Molding Corporation, a minority-owned leader in plastic injection molding, announced a significant expansion of its operations in Greensboro, North Carolina. This expansion will see the company grow from its current 36,000 square foot facility to a 104,000 square foot facility, representing a substantial investment of $27,850,000. The expansion is expected to create at least 26 new positions over the next four years, with an average wage of $58,885, while retaining 60 existing employees.

Banknote Corporation of America has chosen northeast Greensboro/ Guilford County for its worldclass expansion. Located off 6109 Corporate Park Dr., the US-based commercial security printer will construct a modern 20,000-squarefoot expansion. This development will create 50 new jobs and bring

IQE is focused on enhancing its production capabilities to supply cutting-edge materials across a variety of industries, including telecommunications, defense, and consumer electronics.

Gilero Gilero LLC, a Sanner Group company specializing in contract design and manufacturing business for medical and drug delivery devices and pharmaceutical packaging, has announced plans to expand its operation into Greensboro, NC. The expansion represents a $6.4 million investment and is projected to create 37 new jobs. This marks another major milestone for Gilero, which currently operates six sites globally, including two existing locations in

The new 60,500-square-foot facility will be located at 486 Gallimore Dairy Rd. and is expected to be operational in summer 2025. It will be dedicated to producing critical components for medical devices and pharmaceutical packaging, as well as desiccant filling for moisture management of critical pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals.

Equipped with state-of-the-art injection molding machines, quality control laboratories, and humiditycontrolled production areas, the facility will significantly boost Gilero’s manufacturing capabilities, allowing it to deliver even more comprehensive solutions to its clients.

Marvin Price wins for Economic Development Congratulations to our own Marvin J. Price, Executive Vice President of Economic Development for the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, for being recognized as one of the Top 50 Economic Developers in the country! Marvin received this prestigious honor at the 2024 ECONOMIX annual conference, held November 19–21 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Syngenta Grand Reopening

On October 30, Syngenta celebrated the grand reopening of its renovated North American Crop Protection headquarters on Swing Road in Greensboro. The refreshed 70-acre campus now supports 700 employees, reaffirming Syngenta’s commitment to agriculture and the Triad community.

The event gathered Syngenta leaders, local officials, and community partners to mark this milestone. The modernized facility is designed to drive innovation, collaboration, and sustainable agricultural solutions.

By investing in Greensboro, Syngenta strengthens its presence in North Carolina, contributing to the local economy and workforce while advancing its mission to support farmers in feeding the world and protecting the planet.

From our Coffee & Conversation series to the newly launched On The Go program, and from our Member Block Party in September to flagship events like the Annual Celebration and State of Our Community, these gatherings provide invaluable opportunities for networking, idea-sharing, and strengthening ties. Launch supports startups by guiding business owners through essential stages, from concept to market launch, equipping them with tools for sustainable growth. Meanwhile, Scale to Excel helps established minority-owned small businesses reach new heights by providing advanced growth strategies, operational support, and access to potential investors and industry experts. Through these programs, we help foster an environment where small businesses can develop their

potential and make a significant impact on the local economy.

One notable success story is our September Member of the Month, Sharpe Pursuits. What started as a few nights of DJ gigs to make ends meet in college, quickly turned into a full-time career for owners Desmond and Shayla Sharpe. On their road to becoming one of the top event companies in Greensboro, they connected with us for our Scale to Excel and Leadership Greensboro programs. Anyone attending our Accelerate Economic Equity Summit and Opportunity Fair in July may have seen Desmond and Shayla, since they happened to have the contract as the planner for this annual event.

Stories like those of Sharpe Pursuits’ exemplify how our commitment to small businesses is more than a promise—it’s a proven path to success that strengthens Greensboro’s entrepreneurial community and economy.

Building a Community with Talent Action Greensboro's Think Greensboro campaign better connects its key talent initiatives— Campus Greensboro, synerG Young Professionals, and Boomerang Greensboro. Cecelia Thompson, Executive Director of Action Greensboro, describes the campaign as a streamlined approach to attracting, retaining, and developing talent, creating a clear pathway for local companies to find and grow

skilled professionals.

Campus Greensboro achieved remarkable milestones this year, with more than 1,300 student applications submitted for 200 positions featured on its newly launched digital job board. The 2024 program welcomed 171 Fellows, marking an impressive 80% yearover-year growth. Fellows earn an average of $18+ per hour, gaining skills and experience that encourage them to launch their careers in the Triad. Meanwhile, synerG engages youth professionals through mentorship, networking events, and opportunities to connect with area business leaders. In 2024, synerG held 82 events and programs with nearly 2,200 registered attendees.

Since its inception, Boomerang Greensboro has drawn some 75 families back to the city, underscoring Greensboro’s appeal as a vibrant, welcoming place to live and work. Together, these programs address the critical challenge of talent retention and show both new and returning residents the lasting opportunities Greensboro offers.

Keeping a Finger on the Pulse Action Greensboro constantly monitors Greensboro’s business landscape to stay attuned to the challenges facing local companies, answering one essential question: What makes a city a great place to live, work, and raise a family? This question has driven our Action Greensboro team for more than

two decades, sparking initiatives like the Downtown Greenway and STEM Early College at NC A&T State University. It guides us as we listen to the needs of Greensboro’s workforce, whose priorities include public schools, access to college talent, and family-friendly support systems.

Our recent 2024 Guilford County Talent and Workplace Survey of more than 600 local employers revealed an eye-opening gap in family-friendly workplace policies.

While these policies top the

workforce’s wish list, only seven percent of Greensboro employers surveyed offer paid parental or family leave, child-care support, or wellness rooms. This shortage likely contributes to a high rate of employee turnover, with “family reasons” cited as a top factor by employers. These findings echoed those of our 2018 “Generation Greensboro” survey, in which thousands of Greensboro’s workers emphasized the importance of work/ life balance and rated the city as a “great place to put down roots.” Yet, more than a third of respondents were unsure if their next job would be in Greensboro.

Accelerating Our Commitment The second annual Accelerate Economic Equity Summit & Opportunity Fair took place in July at NC A&T State University, marking a pivotal moment in our efforts to build economic equity and foster supplier diversity. This event provided a unique platform for minority-owned businesses to connect directly with leaders from corporate and public sectors, expanding opportunities for collaboration that may otherwise be hard to access. The day featured workshops, networking sessions, and a thriving Opportunity Fair, each designed to empower minority entrepreneurs and corporate DEI leaders to drive an inclusive local economy.

The Opportunity Fair gave minorityowned businesses a chance to pitch their services to prospective clients, sparking immediate conversations around potential contracts. Entrepreneurs like Shayla and Desmond Sharpe of Sharpe Pursuits understand the critical role contract work plays in growing their businesses, with their long-term contracts standing as a testament to the event’s impact. As Phil Barnhill of East Greensboro NOW put it, “Showing up is the first step. This is an investment in your company’s future.”

On October 31, we hosted an inspiring Manufacturing Day at HondaJet, bringing students from Smith and Southeast High Schools together for an immersive experience in advanced manufacturing. This unique event, made possible through partnerships with Guilford County Schools Career & Technical Education, shift_ed, Forge Makerspace GSO, GTCC, NC A&T State University,

Junior Achievement, NCWorks, and Guilford Education Alliance, provided students with an inside look at the high-tech world of aerospace manufacturing and the skills, innovation, and teamwork involved in producing world-class aircraft.

ON THE GO Our new On the Go Series is all about connecting our business community in fun, unique, and engaging environments. Designed to take networking beyond the boardroom, this series offers members the chance to build relationships while exploring some of Greensboro’s best local spots.

The 2024 OV Class continued its legacy of fostering meaningful dialogue and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within our community. Through candid discussions, immersive experiences, and collaborative learning, participants explored complex social and cultural issues, equipping them to become more empathetic and effective leaders. This year’s class brought together a dynamic group of individuals dedicated to building bridges and driving positive change in their workplaces and beyond, furthering the mission of creating a more inclusive and unified Greensboro.

The 2024 Leadership Greensboro program celebrated the graduation of its 44-member class on May 8 at The Terrace at the Greensboro Coliseum. the creativity and innovation of our local makers. This initiative highlights the stories of businesses that shape our community, from skilled artisans to cutting-edge manufacturers. At the inaugural event, we were proud to honor Whitby Motorcars and Industries of the Blind whose contributions exemplify the ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit of Guilford County. These businesses not only showcase the talent within our region but also reinforce why Guilford County is a hub for exceptional craftsmanship and forward-thinking production.

Whitby Motorcars, which won the Small Business category, is led

by Greensboro native Jeff Collins, who says, “My favorite part of this business is that we have the ability to make a grown man act like a fouryear-old on Christmas Eve.” Whitby’s restoration services and custom cars capture the excitement and passion that drive our local economy. The Large Company award went to Industries of the Blind Greensboro, a

stalwart of local manufacturing who provides employment opportunities for people who are blind or visually impaired.

The June event for Made in Guilford also included the presentation of the Safety Awards, recognizing businesses that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to workplace safety and employee wellbeing. Together, these awards reflect the talent, dedication, and ingenuity that make Guilford County a thriving hub for innovation and excellence Alongside Made in Guilford and the Safety Awards, the Chamber continues to elevate small businesses through the annual Small

Business Awards.

“Our small businesses are the heart and soul of the community,” said Tracy Myers, the Chamber’s Executive Vice President for Member and Investor Engagement. “While we work to bring new businesses into Greensboro, our small businesses maintain our city’s unique identity.”

With 86 percent of our roughly 1,350 members being small businesses, these awards spotlight the strength and diversity of our economy. 2024 Lead Your City Summit

The 2024 Lead Your City Summit, held on September 12 at GTCC’s Conference Center, welcomed nearly 200 young professionals from diverse industries for a dynamic day of professional growth. Keynote speaker Wilson Lester, Founder of Partners in Equity, inspired attendees with a talk on discovering purpose.

Breakout sessions, led by organizations like GTCC, CCL, and Triad Goodwill, tackled critical skill areas identified in the 2024 Guilford County Talent & Workplace Survey, including professional communication and tools for first-time managers. Participants also enjoyed valuable networking opportunities, free professional headshots, and an exclusive HondaJet tour.

This annual event continues to prepare young professionals in Greensboro and beyond for greater success in their workplaces and communities.

Advisory Board, are honored with professional videos, shared at our annual awards ceremony and made available for their own promotion.

These opportunities for recognition are just one of the many ways we tell Greensboro’s story as a top destination for innovative companies and the people who fuel their success.

Advancing Jobs and Opportunity Small business is just one piece of how we’re driving economic development. Our Economic Development team is focused on

large industries through work on two vital fronts: attracting new industries to our vibrant city and nurturing the growth of our existing companies. This dual approach not only enhances our local economy but also strengthens our community’s identity.

Launching Greensboro’s Next Big Ideas Our traditional workforce and economic development initiatives are only one way we’re enhancing opportunity in Greensboro. In 2024, Launch Greensboro evolved their programming to better ensure access

to capital, mentorship, and visibility.

Under the leadership of Joey Cheek, Executive Vice President of Entrepreneurship, Launch Greensboro has revamped their programs and resources to better help new and established businesses achieve their potential. Revamped programs, such as LaunchCamp and LaunchLab, offer hands-on, intensive support tailored to entrepreneurs at various stages of their journey. “We’ve stepped up our goals,” Cheek stated. “We want to make sure that we’re supporting people who are starting Main Street businesses, but we also want to take a chance on the kinds of companies that come out of tech transfer, tech translation, out of universities. We’re working closely with universities

here to help companies scale very quickly so that they can employ 500 or 1,000 or more people in a few years.”

More than 60 companies across the Triad found huge success by participating in Launch programming this year, completing deep dives into customer discovery, financial modeling, and digital marketing, and developing full business scaling plans.

One Launch success story is Tanya Dickens, the owner of Savor the Moment. After relocating her bakery to downtown Greensboro, she quickly discovered the wealth of resources available through the Chamber. “I realized they had awesome programs that could help

me elevate my business,” Dickens said. Starting small in 2009, Dickens grew Savor the Moment into a bustling business with over a dozen employees, trademarked products, and a recently opened second storefront.

Guidance from the Chamber’s Launch Greensboro program was pivotal for Dickens, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of marketing, branding, and business strategy.

“We had experts come in to talk to us about everything from financing to branding,” she explained. “It allowed me to focus on expanding my business while preparing my pitch.” After successfully launching her bakery, she joined Accelerate Greensboro’s Scale to Excel program, which has been instrumental in scaling her business and expanding her network, leading to valuable connections and new business.

Craig Stay, who owns CUSTOMish, specializes in customized car accessories. “Launch Greensboro helped me quit my former job and focus full-time on my business,” he shared. With a bank of 3-D printers, Stay creates innovative products tailored for specific vehicle models.

The Launch programs taught him crucial lessons about starting small and paying attention to detail. “It really helps you flesh out your idea, get you pointed in a direction, and start moving,” he reflected.

2024 INTERCITY VISIT In early April, a delegation of approximately 100 business and civic leaders from Greensboro embarked on an inspiring Intercity visit to Nashville, TN. This biennial trip serves as a unique opportunity to connect, learn, and bring back innovative ideas that can help shape the future of our community.

The Nashville experience was a perfect blend of networking, relationship-building, and education.

Our participants engaged in dynamic sessions and hands-on discussions, exploring some of the most pressing topics facing communities today.

Key highlights from the trip included:

Innovative Transportation Models Nashville showcased its forwardthinking approaches to transit solutions, offering insights into how Greensboro can enhance its own transportation infrastructure to support growth and accessibility.

Affordable Housing Strategies With housing affordability being a priority for both cities, our group learned about Nashville’s creative strategies for increasing access to affordable homes, which sparked new ideas for addressing similar challenges in Greensboro.

R1 University Tech Transfer & Entrepreneurial Ecosystems A deep dive into Nashville’s robust tech transfer initiatives and entrepreneurial support systems left our leaders inspired to strengthen Greensboro’s own innovation and startup ecosystems, leveraging the talent and resources of our local universities.

Throughout the visit, our leaders exchanged ideas, best practices,

and solutions with their Nashville counterparts, fostering collaboration that will continue well beyond this trip. This year’s Intercity visit was a powerful reminder of the value of shared learning and community partnerships.

We are excited to see how these takeaways will translate into actionable strategies for Greensboro.

Our Four-Mile Hub of Connection and Growth Western Branch Construction Hits Major Milestone Construction on the Western Branch of the Downtown Greenway began in January, marking the final stretch of the four-mile loop! This historic milestone is set to be completed by late 2025. Significant progress was made this year with all underground utility work finished, along with stream restoration along College Branch. Plus, the small section of the Greenway crossing Murrow Boulevard over North Church Street is near completion!

Public Art Takes Center Stage with Market + Branch Project We received an overwhelming 87 submissions for the highly anticipated Market + Branch public art installation at the intersection of Western Branch and West Market Street. We're excited to announce who has been selected to bring this vision to life in Spring 2025!

Local and National Recognition for the Downtown Greenway The Greenway received a spotlight on both local and national stages this year. Dabney Sanders and Chelsea Phipps presented at major

conferences, including the Great Trails State Conference and the North Carolina Recreation & Park Association Conference. Our project was also featured on American

Dream TV, highlighted in Our State Magazine, and graced the front cover of the 2024 Greensboro Visitor’s Guide!

We hosted our first-ever Block Party in September on February One Place, bringing together hundreds of community members for an afternoon of networking, fun, and local food. It was a fantastic celebration of our city’s vibrant spirit and strong business community!
