Annual Impact Report 2024-205

Page 1

A Message from the Board Chair & CEO

Dear Friends of Girl Scouts,

This year marked meaningful progress for Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey as we continued to expand our reach and invest in the future of girls. As we reflect on Fiscal Year 2025, we are proud of the impact we have made together and grateful to the community that makes this work possible.

Thanks to the commitment of our volunteers, Board of Directors, staff, donors, and members, more than 19,000 girls across our five counties experienced the power of Girl Scouting. Through programs grounded in STEM, the outdoors, life skills, and entrepreneurship, girls built confidence, strengthened skills, and explored new possibilities for their futures.

We took important steps this year to increase access and drive innovation. We advanced key priorities within our Property Master Plan, strengthened our organization through strategic investments in our people and programs, and began construction on the Girl Scout DreamLab in Paramus. This dynamic new space will serve as a center for leadership, creativity, and hands-on learning, creating new opportunities for girls and engaging the broader community.

We also deepened our impact across New Jersey. Through our Community Engagement initiatives, we reached more girls in underrepresented communities and expanded access to experiences that foster confidence, connection, and belonging. In partnership with councils across the state, we helped elevate the needs and voices of girls through the New Jersey Girl Report, encouraging leaders across sectors to take action in support of their success.

As we look ahead, we remain focused on growth, innovation, and lasting impact. With your continued support, we will ensure that more girls have the opportunity to discover their strengths and find their voices.

It is our privilege to present this Annual Impact Report and to thank you for your continued commitment to girls and to the future we are building together.

With appreciation,

Program Highlights

During Fiscal Year 2025, Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey focused on the future and expanding opportunities for all girls in New Jersey. We worked to ensure that every girl has access to meaningful experiences, skilled mentors, and spaces designed for their growth so that they can gain confidence and competencies that last lifetime. We remained committed to delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls in grades K-12 and to ensuring that the program continues to evolve and inspire, and to that end, we began building our Girl Scout DreamLab in Paramus (at 300 Forest Ave), enhancing our existing Jockey Hollow and Lake Rickabear Camp properties, as well as selling underutilized properties such as Camp Glen Spey as part of our property master plan.

To better understand what girls across our state are facing, the four Girl Scouts of New Jersey Councils commissioned the report: Her Future in Focus: The New Jersey Girl Report. Presented by Girl Scout council leaders, including our own President/CEO Sandra A. Kenoff, at a joint press conference in Trenton (in June 2025), the report reveals urgent findings about the challenges girls in New Jersey face—from health and wellbeing to academic readiness. The report is a call for action to educators, policymakers, community leaders, and families to invest in systemic solutions that empower the girls who will shape our future. Explore the full report and learn more (www.gsnnj.org/njgirlreport): Her Future in Focus: The New Jersey Girl Report

As the eleventh largest council in girl and adult membership out of 111 councils nation-wide, we held an 11% market share, making us second in the country. We served 18,829 girl members and 10,250 adult members and formed 175 new troops.

To engage our volunteers and build relationships, we launched a large scale kickoff event, Council Con, in the fall of 2024. This was followed by a Spring Summit in April 2025. Both events created opportunities for our volunteers to engage in person. We facilitated 67 New Leader Orientations, serving 624 volunteers, and 25 Green Table Talks connecting with 400 new and existing Troop Leaders.

Program Highlights

The positive impact of the Girl Scout Experience Box initiative carried through into the 2024-2025 membership year, with 167 Girl Scout Daisy Troop Leaders using the boxes to facilitate their meetings and activities. The Girl Scout Experience Box for the Girl Scout Brownie level was also introduced.

Throughout the year, we provided a variety of staff-led program activities and excursions that helped girls explore the four pillars of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (STEM, Outdoors, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship), and discover a wide range of cultures beyond their own communities. These included:

• Voter Girl 2024: In partnership with the League of Women Voters, we held Voter Girl at Jockey Hollow Camp in October, where girls and adults learned about civic engagement and the voting process.

• Highest Awards Celebrations: This year, we held celebrations at every level for our Girl Scouts who earned their Girl Scout Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards by dreaming of a better tomorrow and taking action in big ways.

• Coretta Scott King Basketball Classic: In January, Girl Scouts attended the Inaugural Coretta Scott King Classic, where they participated in an exclusive panel discussion with women in sports careers, had a group photo on center court, and celebrated the legacy of Coretta Scott King and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

• Glam Jam Weekend: In January, we hosted a Met Gala style challenge, and designed outfits combining fashion, art, and nature at Jockey Hollow Camp. Girls learned the art of sketching, selecting fabrics, and hand sewing their designs.

• Explore Ithaca: Colleges, Cascades, and Commons

In September, girls traveled to Ithaca to explore the town and local colleges. Girls and adults explored the Ithaca gorges as well as toured Cornell University and Ithaca College.

Girl Scout DreamLab

In July of 2025, we began demolition and construction of the Girl Scout DreamLab, located at our former Service Center (300 Forest Ave.) in Paramus. Our goal was to create an engaging space dedicated to fostering leadership, encouraging curiosity, and embracing innovation, not only for girls, but for the communityat-large. Determined to create a hub for sisterhood and a place where Girl Scouts and others can connect in the community, we envisioned this to be a place to build confidence and shape passions and dreams, with an opening date of spring 2026.

At our Girl Scout DreamLab, we planned to offer a full range of activities that will appeal to a variety of interests, including scientific experimentation, robotics and engineering, coding, podcasting, and creative arts.

Strategically located, the DreamLab is intended to enhance visibility and accessibility, providing as many girls as possible with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Designed to offer dynamic programs and

Fall Product & Girl Scout Cookie Programs

By participating in this year’s Fall Product Program and Girl Scout Cookie Program, Girl Scouts learned valuable sales and business skills, while they raised funds to support their troop’s activities and take-action projects. Exciting new products like personalized stationery and scented candles were introduced in the Fall Product Program. During the Girl Scout Cookie Program, we held a “Bling Your Cookie Booth” Contest and participants dressed their booth for one of four themes to earn a $50 GSNNJ gift card. Top sellers were rewarded with new experiences that included: 167 Girl Scouts earned tickets to see Aladdin on Broadway (500+ packages) and 200+ troops (2,013 Girl Scouts) earned a Troop Day at Lake Rickabear Camp (Troop PGA of 150+).

GSNNJ Board Members and staff visited Girl Scout Cookie Booth Sales throughout the five counties and surprised Girl Scouts with Cookie Boss patches.

The Girl Scout S’mores cookie was sunsetted from the lineup and we held a retirement rally at the Riverdale Service Center for Girl Scouts, families, and troop leaders with crafts and activities.

Gold Award Girl Scouts

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the mark of the truly remarkable and proof that not only can Girl Scouts make a difference, but through their Gold Award projects, they already have. Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors who earn the Gold Award tackle issues that are dear to them and drive lasting change in their communities and beyond. The Gold Award is a key that can open doors to scholarships, preferred admission tracks for college and military service, and amazing career opportunities. The following are the GSNNJ Girl Scouts who earned their Gold Awards this year.

Girl Scout Adventures

In August 2025, we partnered with Ferrero to host the Kinder Joy of Moving Family Fun Festival at GSNNJ’s Lake Rickabear Camp in Kinnelon, NJ. This all-day event was a part of Ferrero’s Kinder Joy of Moving project, encouraging children and families worldwide to get active, enjoy moving, and develop life skills in an engaging and joyful way. Kinder’s sponsorship of this event aligned with one of the four key pillars of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, Outdoors, through providing Girl Scouts with an engaging and unique outdoor program. At the festival, Girl Scouts and family members enjoyed a Color Fun Run, beginner tennis lessons, Kinder Joy of Moving games, Inflatables, and a beach dance party.

National Gold Award Girl Scout Scholarship from the Girl Scouts of the USA. One Girl Scout per council is awarded this annual honor, and as our council’s recipient, Maria received a $5,000.00 scholarship for her take action project, “My Missing Playmate.” Inspired by her own experience of sibling loss due to stillbirth, Maria curated a collection of children’s picture books designed to help young children and their families begin the difficult conversation about sibling loss, particularly loss due to stillbirth. Maria reached 62 county libraries and 2 school districts to provide this book collection and resources. Maria’s goal was to make the process of grieving easier through awareness and facilitated communication between parents and their children.

Girl Scout Adventures

In May 2025, we partnered with United States Tennis Association Eastern, alongside the Junior Tennis Foundation and the Women’s Sports Foundation, to host a dynamic and engaging Girl Scout Tennis Workshop at East Side Park Courts in Paterson, NJ. As part of a nationwide organization dedicated to growing the sport of tennis and making it accessible to all, USTA Eastern brought certified professionals and a wealth of expertise to lead this impactful experience.

This free event welcomed Girl Scout Daisies through Cadettes for a morning of hands-on instruction, skillbuilding, and fun in a supportive and empowering environment. Led by USTA-certified tennis professionals, participants learned the fundamentals of the sport, including grip and swing techniques, footwork, coordination, and the basics of team play and sportsmanship with all equipment provided.

To help educate young children about physical disabilities and how to respectfully interact with individuals with disabilities Gold Award Girl Scout Clara Vales wrote and published a children’s book that highlights themes of understanding, inclusion, and appreciating differences. She also created a website where her book can be accessed, along with a read-along video and additional educational resources.

Lake Rickabear & Jockey Hollow Camps

During Summer 2025, girls engaged in hiking, boating, swimming, horseback riding, zip lining, archery, nature exploration, cooking, arts & crafts, and sports (pickleball, basketball, and volleyball) at our Jockey Hollow Camp in Mendham and Lake Rickabear Camp in Kinnelon. Campers who were also registered Girl Scouts were able to earn Girl Scout badges and patches through a variety of outdoor adventures and skill-building activities.

• 1,038 girls participated in our summer camps

• 514 girls attended Jockey Hollow Day Camp

• 524 girls attended Lake Rickabear Day Camp

We continued to expand outdoor programming opportunities for Girl Scouts, families, troops, and Service Units across both camp properties. In 2025, new Troop Camping and Service Unit Encampment experiences included Stream Exploration and Trail Adventure at Jockey Hollow, as well as Outdoor Art at Lake Rickabear. More than 200 Girl Scout troops and Service Units participated in overnight troop camping experiences or day trips at our camps, where girls enjoyed activities such as archery, zip lining, outdoor cooking, hiking, and pickleball. To expand our pickleball offerings for Girl Scouts and their families, we added a Pickleball Program Manager to our staff who was a mentor and coach to our campers, teaching them pickleball and beginners tennis, and who designed and planned a schedule of clinics and family fun events for the fall.

Community Engagement

Our Community Engagement outreach initiative provided a staff-led Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls from under-resourced communities within our jurisdiction. We continued to expand the impact and reach of Girl Scouting in under-represented communities such as Clifton, Englewood, Hackensack, Morristown, Passaic, Paterson, Dover, and Teaneck.

We led program activities throughout the school year during lunch hours and after school, as well as hosted events with the support of sponsors such as Mimi Faust for Neighborhood House, Lillian Schenck Foundation, City of Paterson, City of Passaic, ADP, Bayer, PSEG for Social Justice initiatives, PNC Foundation, and Tudor Foundation.

A special focus this year was on exploring STEM careers, improving financial literacy, discovering how to work for a just society, practicing mental wellness, and creating positive change in the community.

With efforts to improve a sense of belonging and impact, the Community Engagement team served 1,658 girls through our school programs and new partnerships with residential treatment facilities and camp partners, including: Mount Olive Baptist Church Camp Piggyback & Noah’s Ark Summer Development Program, the City of Paterson Recreation Programs, Community Movie Night with the Habitat for Humanity, Paterson Green Initiatives, and Paterson Policing Community Summer Initiatives.

• 1,658 girls were introduced to Girl Scouting

• Girl Scouts participated in financial empowerment workshops in English and Spanish with the support of FINRA Investor Education Foundation.

• We co-hosted a community tennis event with USTA Eastern that engaged participants in active, skillbuilding recreational programming.

• Community Engagement team trained with USTA Eastern staff to learn the fundamentals of tennis instruction. This training prepared staff to lead a monthly tennis program serving students at Paterson Public School #27.

Annual Meeting & Adult Recognition

The 18th Annual Meeting & Adult Recognition event was held at The Meadow Wood in Randolph on May 14, 2025, with approximately 400 people in attendance. New GSNNJ Board Members, Girl Scout Representatives to the Board, and Board Development Committee Members were installed, and outgoing members were recognized. A key highlight of the meeting was our Juliette Gordon Low Quarter celebration moment. The coin is part of the fourth and final year of the America’s Women Quarters Program. In 2025, 417 adult recognition awards and 128 membership year pins were presented to our dedicated volunteers at the event and in their service units. Gold Award Girl Scout Katelyn Liloia shared remarks about her Gold Award project, “Katelynspages,” which provided an online resource to healthcare professionals with more than 1,000 activities for children in hospital settings. Inspired by her own experiences, the project has been utilized by professionals nationwide.

Special 57th National Council Session

On Oct. 19. 2024, Girl Scouts of the USA’s National Council (comprised of over 900 girl and adult members from across the country, including 13 from our own council with 4 alternates) gathered virtually for a first-ever special National Council Session. Delegates learned about two membership dues proposals put forth by the National Board as well as actions that the board took to provide financial assistance to councils and families. They engaged in debate and ultimately voted to increase annual membership dues for both girl and adult members. These investments in Girl Scouting will help us serve our current girls, support our current volunteers, reach more girls, and engage more volunteers.

Women of Achievement

Women of Achievement 2025, our largest fundraiser of the year, was celebrated at the Venetian on April 30, 2025. There were more than 300 guests in attendance and an active silent auction online. The event raised over $200,000 to help expand the impact and reach of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in northern New Jersey. We honored the following extraordinary local women:
