LITTLE LUKERS TAKE OFF AT GSL
from the head of school: Grace-St. Luke’s is a happening place! If you’ve ever doubted the truth of those words, I’d invite you to come to campus and see all the wonderful things in action here at GSL. Down at Miss Lee’s the campus is bursting with students, energy, and life. This year, boosted by the addition of the Little Lukers, enrollment soared to more than 545 students. The Little Lukers program has gotten off to a magnificent start, welcoming 40+ twoyear-olds and young three-year-olds to the community. The Little Luker teachers, led ably by Head of Preschool Jennifer Vest, have researched and developed an exciting play-based curriculum that will welcome these youngest Saints to our community and put them on a dynamic learning path for years to come. In visiting the classrooms you can clearly see that our teachers are very intentional about their work, engaging students with their classroom design, hands-on activities, and early literacy and numeracy programs. Our students are learning and growing while busily engaged in play.

Late this summer, the Saunders family, longtime residents of the house immediately to the north of the school administrative office, approached the school about purchasing the property. The Board carefully reviewed the offer and decided that the chance to expand our campus by acquiring contiguous property was impossible to refuse. In late September, the transaction to purchase the house was completed, thereby giving GSL some valuable breathing room and an opportunity to plan for growth into new space. Board Vice President Allison Cates is chairing a task force to examine the space and how it might augment and support our current and future programs at Grace-St. Luke’s.

Little Lukers Take Off!

Last winter, when school leadership and the Board of Trustees were discussing the possibility of adding a two-year-old program to GSL School, no one could say with absolute certainty that the idea would work. School leaders knew GSL could offer excellent instruction for that age-level, based on the Preschool’s outstanding play-based, NAEYC-accredited curriculum model, but because enrollment levels for a new program are notoriously difficult to predict, the decision was going to require a leap of faith. “We had a strong impression, based on our own informal conversations with current parents and prospective families, that there was a need for instruction at this age level,” says Thor Kvande, Head of School. “We also were eager to find new ways to get families interested in the Preschool. Since the recession began in 2008, we’d seen shifting enrollment trends, including families waiting longer to start children at GSL. But we suspected that adding an earlier age level might be a useful alternative to full-time day care for many of our dual-working parents, so we decided to give it a try, with the hope that we would be able to fill one class with 12 full-time students.” The program was announced in December, and within three weeks, GSL’s admissions office had received more than 30 applications. “Needless to say, we were delighted by the immediate positive response!” says Shelly McGuire, Director of Enrollment. As weeks went by and applications continued to roll in, the administrative team quickly realized GSL was going to be able to fill more than one classroom. More options were added, including half days, two-days and three-days per week, and by the end of March, the program was full. Boasting a record enrollment this year of 125 students, Miss Lee’s ended up opening three new Little Lukers classrooms for two-year-old students in August, also filling two full classes of prekindergarten and three sections of junior kindergarten. Miss Lee’s was renovated in 2009 to allow GSL to expand and enhance its

preschool program and welcome new families to the community, and for the first time since then, every classroom is in use. “It’s great to walk through and see so many happy children in all of the classrooms at Miss Lee’s,” says McGuire. “Prospective parents are always impressed with our classrooms and the teaching instruction that they observe when they tour. And as is always the case with GSL, our warm sense of community shines through! It’s easy to see that our students are engaged in learning and joyful play. Miss Lee’s is a very special place!” Adding three new classrooms of younger children to the mix of pre-kindergartners and junior kindergartners at Miss Lee’s required the addition of changing tables and smaller chairs and tricycles. Miss Lee’s recently received its NAEYC reaccreditation (see opposite page), and will be visited again this year by NAEYC because of the program addition. According to the Preschool teachers, all the hard work has been more than worth it. “When I found out about the Little Luker program I was extremely excited to be a part of it,” says new Little Lukers lead teacher Kelsey Beagle, who worked last year at Miss Lee’s as a prekindergarten assistant. “Naively, I thought, how different could six months in age really be? I quickly found that two-and-a-half yearolds are a whole new world! They are still discovering language and making friends, skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. My favorite part about working in early childhood is the ‘lightbulb moment,’ when a child makes a new connection that he or she did not realize before. Watching the children independently open all their containers at lunch time or watching them realize for the first time that the shapes they manipulate on a light projector will also move on the wall are just some of the magic moments in the classroom. You see the wheels turning and hear the, ‘I did it!’ so many times throughout each day with these little ones. They are precious little people, and I feel extremely lucky to spend my days with them.”

GSL Expands Campus with Property Purchase This fall, the School’s Board of Trustees authorized a property acquisition of the house at 240 S. Belvedere, the residential property next door to the school administrative office. GSL took ownership of the property on Sept. 26, 2013. “The house became available for purchase and we were approached by the owner of the property over the summer,” explains Thor Kvande, Head of School. “After careful study and deliberation, the Board of Trustees decided it would be important to take advantage of this rare opportunity to purchase contiguous property, at a price point that was much more accessible than past offers which had been extended to us.” The Board has appointed a task force to be chaired by board vice-president Allison Cates to research and explore potential uses for this property, both short-term and long-term, that would further enhance or augment GSL’s program.

Fashion Forward Entrepreneurial alumna Evie Maddox Wood takes retail on wheels in Birmingham, AL By M a r c i W o o d ma n s e e , ’83, Director of Communications Weekdays, GSL ’99 alumna Evie Maddox Wood can be found in the Birmingham headquarters of Hibbett Sports, Inc., where she works full-time as a buyer for men’s fashion apparel. But if you want to catch up with Wood most weeknights and weekends, you better follow the beautiful, bright yellow truck that has become Birmingham’s new, mobile fashion icon. “I knew I wanted to have a business of my own,” Maddox says. “I did not know it would be on four wheels!” She also did not know until halfway through college at Auburn that she would end up in fashion. “I started out as an education major,” she says. “But then I realized I was more interested in business, though not something conservative, coat-and-tie. I knew I liked fashion, so I thought that retail might be the route for me. I did a semester abroad in Italy and we studied fashion there, which also helped me figure out the path I wanted to take.” Armed with a bachelor’s degree in apparel merchandising by the time she graduated, Wood started out as a personal shopper on the floor at Saks Fifth Avenue before eventually joining the buying office at Hibbett. “I was doing buying research for Hibbett, and we do a lot of business out of Los Angeles; that’s where I discovered the fashion trucks!” she says. “I had always wanted to own my own boutique, but it was a long-term goal because the barriers to entry are so high, what with renting a retail space and so forth. But I saw those trucks and thought that was not such a big barrier to getting started.” After convincing her husband Lane of the potential in the plan, they crunched numbers, put a very intensive business plan together, and began looking for a truck. “In January we found an old hand-me-down step van on Craig’s List,” she says. “This one was quite well-loved, but we got some help fixing up the interior. I wanted to be sure it felt like a store inside, not like a vehicle. Next thing you know, we were ready to launch in April.” With lots of good press rolling in and growing crowds at their events, the business is off to a great start. Customers can shop from the truck or online through the website Wood’s husband designed and manages. They take the truck to public events throughout the city and have also made it available for private parties. “Private parties have been really successful and a good way for us to get business during the week because our customers will generally host a fashion party in the evening,” Wood says. “They’re lots of fun, and the party hostess earns what

we call ‘truck bucks’ to spend on our merchandise. When we started taking the truck out on weekends, we quickly learned that we would do well at any event where there’s a lot of pedestrian traffic. The chance of people coming in is high because they are curious. Still, the product has to be compelling enough to buy once they’re in. And of course, we made the truck as bright as possible so you can’t miss it!” Wood says the past year has been full of both joys and frustrations, but she is pleased with their progress. “Honestly, it was this type of business that was the game changer in being able to do this,” she says. “Mobile retail hasn’t really hit the Southeast beyond food trucks, but out West they have whole parking lots full of trucks like this. We were lucky to have enough money saved to get our business started so we could afford to do this without going into debt. With no loan or rental space to worry about, it’s easy to run a profitable business.” Wood admits that there have been times when launching a new business, in addition to working 40 hours a week, is a challenge. “I’ve always been a very active and busy person—I even teach spin classes!—so I thought I could do it all, no problem,” she says. “I also ended up getting promoted at Hibbett right when we opened the truck, which was wonderful, though it did make everything a little stressful the first few months. But retail has always been one of my favorite parts of this industry. When I left Saks, I missed the sales floor and helping customers, so I really enjoy being in the truck. I love the fact that it’s mine and the reaction we get from customers. Everyone is so curious and excited about it, and I feed off of that.” Wood credits GSL with fostering her determination and persistence to make her dream a reality. “GSL always encouraged us to think outside the box and explore opportunities,” she says. “I just think it gave me a nice strong base. At a small school, with those smaller student-teacher ratios, I think you are given more tools and more chances to build your confidence. I know it helped me be a leader when I went on to St. Agnes and served as senior class president. I feel like we were taught at a young age to go for it; that’s what I kept doing, and here I am. You have to know that failure can be part of success, and if you can take it well, you will eventually succeed.” With Wood behind the wheel, success is surely just ahead! The College Plunge Alumni Secure Four-Year Clarence Day Scholarships for Studies at Rhodes College By M a r c i W o o d ma n s e e , ’83, Director of Communications For Lukers who attend GSL from Preschool through eighth grade, the first big educational milestone they encounter is picking a high school. The second is figuring out where to go to college. Because our eighth graders leave GSL extremely well-prepared for their continuing educational journey, they tend to sail smoothly into high school, achieve further academic and extracurricular success, and graduate from 12th grade very well-prepared for a meaningful and exciting college experience. In fact, many are fortunate enough to secure great scholarships as well. This year, for its prestigious Clarence Day Scholarship program, Rhodes College selected three students from GSL’s Class of 2009—Elizabeth Shearon, Grant Hechinger, and Kenneth Piper— to receive generous four-year scholarships for studies. The Clarence Day Scholarship Program is awarded to only 10 top first-year students from Memphis and Shelby County high schools annually. Each student will also receive support for a “learning outside the classroom” experience in metro Memphis, such as service, research, or an internship. For the three GSL awardees, it is a great opportunity that makes all their hard work in school worth the effort. “Rhodes College was my number one choice, but it is definitely not cheap, so I had to make sure that the scholarships were there,” says Hechinger. “And I’m not going to lie, the college application process is not fun! It takes a lot of time and thought to complete, but it’s just something you have to do. Using the Common App and keeping the number of schools you apply to at a relatively low number (trust me, 10 is probably overdoing it) can make it a lot easier.” According to Shearon, financial assistance was definitely a factor in deciding where to attend. “I made my final decision based upon the best education I could get at the best level of affordability,” she says. “The Day Scholarship was a huge help!” Piper agrees. “Being a double legacy, I always knew that I wanted to end up at Rhodes,” he says. “But the process in my case was pretty long and stressful, and I didn’t find out I was a Day Scholar until the middle of April. I only applied to four schools and was about to go to the University of Arkansas. My final decision came

with the scholarship offer, and I’m very pleased thus far.” Although the Day Scholarship is a relatively new program at Rhodes, it is a popular addition to the college’s offerings. “The Clarence Day Scholarship program is one of our most important initiatives because it is dedicated to bringing in students from Memphis-area high schools who have already demonstrated a commitment to service and an interest in making a positive impact on Memphis,” said Jeffery Norris, Rhodes Director of Admission & Data Services. “We are delighted to welcome these talented individuals to Rhodes. They will receive an outstanding education and have the opportunity to engage in important experiential learning initiatives beyond the campus to further develop their leadership potential.” By all accounts, the students are enjoying life at Rhodes to date and assimilating well into the college culture. “I’m getting to take classes in four different departments that I was able to choose for myself,” says Piper. “I love the environment of a small school and the strong sense of community; everybody treats each other as equals and with respect. I’m pledging a fraternity this semester and enjoying the social side of the school as well. It’s a small school with a closeknit community, making it very easy to forget that I’m only 2.5 miles from my house.” Hechinger echoes those sentiments. “The best thing about Rhodes so far has just been how nice everyone is,” he says. “I’ve met so many great people, and going to a school like this has made the transition to college so much easier.” Shearon says she loves the feeling of community at Rhodes. “Everyone is incredibly friendly and willing to help a confused, naïve freshman! I have already made so many awesome friends here and am constantly reminded of the fact that I am surrounded by wonderful people every day!” No doubt, these GSL alumni will continue to make us proud and enjoy just as much success at Rhodes College as they did in high school. I think GSL prepared me for high school and even college better than most schools would have. In particular, I think Mrs. White showed me the wonders of English and writing, and that is still one of my greatest interests today. As far as studies go, I have no idea what my major is going to be yet. But one great thing about Rhodes is they provide you with the time and the structure that you need to figure that out. My activities so far have mostly been focused on basketball. It’s definitely a time commitment, but there is still plenty of time for school and shenanigans, and it’s been great!
GSL definitely prepared me for high school, and ultimately college. I have to say, the English program at GSL is a phenomenal one, and allowed me to pursue the highest level English courses in high school. Of course, this may change as I discover more fields of study. I also plan to participate in Track and Field. Sports have always helped me create a sense of structure in both my academic and my social life.

Kenneth Piper CBHS GSL more than equipped me to be a student at Christian Brothers and ultimately gave me the tools to use in high school to pick up the tools necessary for college. Few people have impacted my love for English like Mrs. White, something that I will consider pursuing here at Rhodes as a major. Coming in, I’m about as undecided as undecided gets towards my major. I love English and I’m becoming more and more interested in chemistry. I’m involved already in Greek life and naturally the planning and working of events put on by the Clarence Day scholars. I look forward to continuing to explore my interests and find more things to become involved with, as there is no shortage of organizations, clubs, and activities on this campus.

The calendar is continuously active with P.A. events which support and enhance our campus and community, so there’s always something in which you can get involved. The one event I want to highlight is our Anchor Auction, which will be on Friday, April 11 at the University Club. This is the P.A.’s largest fundraiser, and its proceeds allow us to supplement the learning experience of our children through technology, physical plant, and curricular gifts. Farewell to Andy Surber After the previous Anchor magazine had gone to press, we found out that our Head of Lower School, Andy Surber, was leaving GSL to accept a great position as the Head of Lower School at the Laguna Blanca School in Santa Barbara, California. Since we did not get to publish a tribute in the last issue of the magazine we wanted to take this opportunity to say farewell. Andy says things are going great, and in his off-time, he is enjoying some great California cuisine with his wife Mary and sons Keenan and Logan, and of course, checking out the local music scene. Last we heard, he was seen surfing some giant waves under a beautiful West coast sunset (at least, that’s how we imagine him!). Your GSL family will miss you, Andy, and we wish you all the best!

New Youth Minister Joins Church Staff Sewanee graduate Mary Margaret Winn settles into the GSL community
I
“Isn’t Mary Margaret awesome?!” Father Richard Lawson of GSL Church said enthusiastically to a group of Middle School students after a recent morning chapel service. He was referring, of course, to the church’s new youth minister, Mary Margaret Winn, who joined the church staff in July. The students’ response? An unequivocal “yes.” With her ready smile, gentle manner, and friendly personality, Winn has quickly won over the children of both the parish and campus. A native of Atlanta who grew up at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Decatur, Winn describes her youth group as a strong early influence on her faith. “My youth group was really special to me; we always had a fantastic time together,” she says. “After high school, I went to college at Sewanee and actually had a hard time finding my place there at first. But second semester of my freshman year, I applied to be a sacristan at All Saints’ Chapel, and working there became my favorite thing about Sewanee. Being so involved in the liturgy, I knew why we did everything we did, and that made the services so much more meaningful. It was really a blessing to be a part of it. I also enjoyed attending Catechumenate, which involves a series of small, faith-based group discussions with different community members. That was a really neat way to learn to talk about my faith in front of people I didn’t know, and I think it helped get me out of my shell.” Winn’s leadership at Sewanee grew; she was eventually named Head Sacristan at All Saints, in addition to serving as Head Proctor for residential life at the University during her senior year. “It was a lot of work, but it was really rewarding and I loved it,” she says. “Still, youth ministry wasn’t really in my line of thought going forward. But Father Richard visited Sewanee last year and our lay chaplain recommended me for the youth minister position he was trying to fill. He was kind enough to invite me to come interview here in February, and everything just clicked. The GSL kids I met the first weekend I interviewed impressed me so much, it blew me away. I thought, ‘I’d be

so lucky to be here working with these people.’ Now it makes sense to me that youth ministry is a viable next step. I know I eventually want to go to seminary, so this is a good way to figure out if I could be at church every day. It’s a great opportunity.” In announcing Winn’s selection as youth minister for GSL church, Father Richard described her as being graced with a preacher’s voice, which was a way of saying that she likes to talk about her faith and is comfortable speaking in front of different ages. Those skills are coming in handy in her new job responsibilities, which include running chapel for Preschool, Lower School, and Middle School services two weeks out of every month. As the church’s youth minister, Winn will work with children in junior and senior high, which encompasses the church’s traditional Sunday night EYC group time and dinner. Winn also started a morning Bible study for 6th-8th graders at GSL and has encouraged any interested youth to get involved in EYC programs at GSL, whether or not they are parishioners. “One pleasant surprise that I encountered when I arrived and started meeting students is just how unique each personality is,” she adds. “Teenagers are not a blank slate, and they have already done so much and experienced so many things; it’s about building on that and helping them find who they are.” Winn is equally excited about working with the school’s younger students. “I noticed in a recent Lower School chapel how Linda Niell was teaching the chapel tips about manners and making eye contact, and I thought that it was neat that we are not just teaching academics but helping create people. We are helping them grow up and teaching them valuable life skills, even in first grade! Not every place can say that. I just think this is a wonderful place, and I am looking forward to learning from this outstanding group of young people and growing together in God’s love.”

He traveled with the University of Alabama to the Dominican Republic to volunteer aid to tornado victims this year. Katelyn Nichols received her theater degree from the UofM and was accepted into a program at the Stella Adler Studio, a prestigious actor training center in New York. This summer, in the college component of the annual Ostrander Awards for theater, she won the award for Leading Actress in a Drama for her role as Becky Shaw in Becky Shaw at UofM.

Connor Crawford is a senior Spanish major at Tulane and will graduate in May 2014. He spent spring of his junior year in Chile and then traveled in Argentina, Ecuador, Columbia, and Peru before returning to the States. He also manages three bands and has been the Tulane University Campus Programming Recreation Chair for the past two years. Austin Magruder is studying in Rome, Italy with the University of Arkansas Fay Jones School of Architecture Fall Studio. He is in his 4th year of a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture program and was named to the Dean’s list in Spring 2013. Emmett Montgomery was inducted to the National Slavic Honor Society in May and spent the summer working on research involving encryption and database protection with a Georgetown University computer science professor. Emmett plans to graduate from Georgetown in May 2014 with a double major in computer science and Russian studies.

Biking the Natchez Trace Maverick Kohlhof (’10) biked the 440-mile Natchez Trace this summer in four days. Here’s his travel log: It rained for the first two and a half days. We biked 120 miles the first day and stopped at Colbert’s Ferry in Alabama and slept right on the Tennessee River. The second day we did 67 miles and stopped in Tupelo to sleep because we got a combined five to six hours of sleep the night before due to the mosquitoes that pestered us throughout the night on the river. The third day we did 143 miles and stopped in Madison County just before the city of Jackson, and on the last day we did 120 miles to finally be in Natchez.

Margaret Grace Haltom and Sam Kitterman’s work creating the Global Awareness Club and a school garden at White Station High School was featured in a sustainable farming article in the Commercial Appeal in August. Sophie Starks spent spring break in Jamaica as part of a St. Andrew’s-Sewanee service project benefiting underprivileged kids. During the summer she attended Governor’s School at UT-Chattanooga to study teaching. Lyda Turley, a senior at Hutchison, was recently honored by U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen of Memphis for her outstanding service to the community. She has volunteered for MIFA Meals on Wheels, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and has also worked at the Good Samaritan Orphanage in Zambia.

The Development Department takes pleasure in announcing the chairs of this year’s Annual Giving Campaign: Virginia & Michael Rowland, parents of Charles (second grade). The Rowlands have long been active at both the school and at Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Michael, co-founder of PL Financial, is currently a member of the school’s Board of Trustees and of GSL’s Finance & Executive Committee. He has worked on the church vestry (treasurer) and on its finance committee, and he has twice been a senior warden. He has even painted church bathrooms! He is currently a member of the perpetual care committee and assists with the food pantry.
Virginia & Michael Rowland Chairs, 2013-2014 Annual Giving Campaign
Virginia (sister of Ellen Hendry, GSL’s 6th and 7th grade English teacher & Dean of Students) is a Memphian, a graduate of Hutchison and of Hollins University, and the longtime manager of the Ridgeway Business Center (through Boyle Investment Co.). She joins Michael on the pastoral care committee at the church and is a member of the altar guild. Virginia is a common sight around the school campus as an active member of the Parents’ Association, a classroom mom, event volunteer and much more. Outside of the GSL church-school world, you’ll find the Rowland family snow skiing, cycling and kayaking.

A Year in Review: GSL’s 2012-2013 Annual Report

Our sincere thanks to Mary & Jock Wright, chairs of the 2012-2013 Annual Fund. Under their leadership, 80% of GSL’s families contributed, raising a grand total of $227,532.60 (surpassing the $220,000 goal!). We wish them all the best as they settle into their new home in Wilton, Connecticut.

The 2012-2013 school year was full of hellos and goodbyes with hundreds of memorable experiences sandwiched in between. We welcomed dozens of new families and watched them start their life-changing journey through GSL, and we said goodbye to 40 Lukers who graduated, leaving their childhoods behind as they entered a new world of high school and beyond. We said goodbye to several families who moved out of town, leaving GSL too soon, and we shouted “hello” to familiar faces that returned. Through it all, our young Saints discovered their inner talents and strengths, their passions, and their visions as they navigated the halls of GSL – and the obstacle course called adolescence. The community that is Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal School values its own distinctive culture: its sense of extended family, its place in Midtown, its relationship with the church, its partnership with teachers, its many friendships. It is this sense of purpose and belonging and commitment that leads so many to support the Annual Fund. Every year, families and friends of GSL dig deep into their pockets to support the school, filling in the gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating each child. The 2012-2013 Annual Fund was no exception. Mary and Jock Wright rallied their friends and fellow volunteers and joined forces with the development staff to raise $227,532.60 in unrestricted gifts - well over the $220,000 goal.
(Including restricted donations, the Annual Fund received a grand total of $282,652.60.) The Wrights were joined by 80% of GSL’s parents, all of whom went above and beyond to show both their support of the school and to ensure that GSL continues to offer the best possible education and personal experience for their children. It’s important to note that grandparents are a significant part of GSL’s Annual Fund. We began the school year with two sets of
grandparents contributing $10,000 each for a Grandparent Challenge. The total contribution of grandparents by May, 2013: $69,459
(30% of our overall goal)!
We must also give credit to our ambitious and hardworking Parents’ Association (P.A.) for its impressive fundraising - and funraising activities - this year. P.A. President Amy Huber (mom of J.D., 6th grade; Margot, ’13; and Abby, ’10; and a GSL graduate herself) worked tirelessly and creatively with her many volunteers, all of whom demonstrated their love of and faith in GSL with seemingly limitless energy. Thanks are also extended to Anna Holtzclaw (Caroline, 2nd grade) and Shantih Smythe (Paxton, 4th grade and Holden, 2nd grade) for their tireless work on the Anchor Auction for the second year in a row! This ever-popular event earned $51,000! Dozens of other special events and fundraising activities were organized for every grade level throughout the year, and the P.A. netted a grand total of $58,000.
The GSL Alumni Association also enjoyed a solid year, chaired by Billy Schaffer (’84), father of Bella, 7th grade and Avery, 5th grade. The Alumni Association Facebook Page attracted many fans, followers and contributors. Additionally, the alumni board members did a nice job helping with the annual Lisa Lassandrello 5K Remembrance Race at GSL. Now the Alumni Association is gearing up for the all-school reunion set for May 10, 2014. Parents, grandparents, alumni, friends and neighbors: the very foundation of GSL’s success is built on the loyalty, vision, and commitment of its families. Thank you for your donations year-round both in terms of your time and your treasure. Our special appreciation is extended to the following contributors to the 2012-2013 Annual Fund (on the following pages).

Superstar Students In May, the 7th grade boys 4x400 relay team took 4th place at city championship meet.
The 7/8 softball team was undefeated at the end of the 2013 season, making them the PAA league champions. Also in May, Hudson Brown won the Shelby 7/8 Boys Singles tennis championship. Fantastic Faculty Sewing School author and SK instructor Amie Plumley published her second book and has received tons of press on her creative sewing projects. Dragon Warriors We have always known that GSL teachers can do it all, but this year we proved it. For the first time ever, GSL fielded two faculty teams in the 3rd Annual Duncan Williams Dragon Boat Races downtown at Mud Island. With racing times of 1:20, we weren’t fast enough to win it all… yet. But just wait till next year!
