WELCOME TO GSL SUMMERFEST For over 40 years, GSL has offered summer programs to boys and girls in the Memphis area - regardless of school affiliation. We offer a variety of programs for every interest, from sports, science and reading to hip hop, math and art. GSL's SummerFest provides a safe and fun environment each week, while giving your child the opportunity to experience something new and create long-lasting friendships. Camp Policies SummerFest 2024 @ GSL is open to all students entering JK through eighth grade, regardless of school affiliation. Programs for rising PK students are for returning GSL students only. Programs are limited and fill up quickly, so register now on UltraCamp. All SummerFest camps are led by current or former faculty/staff/coaches, GSL alumni, or trusted school vendors. Program fees must be paid in full for your child to be officially registered. All programs are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Cancellations must be made via email to Emily Merrell, Director of SummerFest, five business days prior to the start date in order to receive a refund (less a $25 cancellation fee). No refunds will be given for absences or cancellations within five business days. Campers may not be registered for a partial week. GSL reserves the right to reschedule, modify, or cancel a program. In the event of a cancellation by the school, a refund for closed camp days will be issued. GSL may also add a program after the print date of this brochure. Morning camp drop-off begins at 7:30 a.m. Morning-only campers should be picked up at 12:00 p.m.; afternoon-only campers should be dropped off at 12:45 p.m. Campers should be picked up at 5:00 p.m. A late pickup fee of $5 per minute, due at time of pickup, will be charged for any child who remains after 5:30 p.m. Pick-up and drop-off for rising PK-SK campers will be at Miss Lee's Preschool (1760 Peabody Avenue). Pick-up and drop-off for rising 1st-8th grade campers is on Lemaster Street outside of the Anchor Center Cafeteria (250 Lemaster Street). It is expected that every camper attending SummerFest adhere to the school's procedures and standards of behavior, which can be located in the handbooks posted online under gslschool.org/parents. GSL reserves the right to dismiss any camper whose behavior becomes unmanageable or who is disruptive to SummerFest activities. We ask that you please not send your child to camp when they are not feeling well. If your child develops cold/flu/Covid-19-type symptoms while at camp, you will be contacted and asked to come pick him/her up as soon as possible. By registering for SummerFest, you agree to allow GSL to publish photos, artwork, videos, podcasts, and any other materials created by your children or featuring your children, in both online and printed communication materials for GSL, unless you notify the SummerFest Director otherwise in writing. Creative Play Theater Sunfish Children’s Theater $215 Rising PK 8:00am-12:00pm Our focus is on the individual child using creativity and self-expression to involve, educate, and encourage. Teaching artists will bring each student into the world of story and poetry through creative drama, character development, environment, exploration, and movement in a positive, nurturing environment. Students will learn storytelling, stage movement, characterization, and basic memorization of poems, songs, and narratives. They will create, design, and execute a storybook narrative and present a short demo and performance at the end of the session.

Explore, learn, create! Campers will have all the tools their hearts desire to create beautiful and unique crafts. We will discuss and demonstrate the fundamental techniques of what makes art so special and explore the significance of textures, colors, lines, and shapes.

There is something about preparing your own food that makes it special. Campers will read books like Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog and Dragons Love Tacos, then practice their fine motor skills as they prepare their favorite, fun foods from the stories.

Come and explore all that art has to offer, from painting to sculptures to collage-making. This fun, hands-on class will turn any little one into an artist. Each child will come away with their very own special artist portfolio. Come and make some magic!

Come get “sew” crafty with us! Campers will hone their fine motor skills using a variety of age-appropriate tools and techniques, including learning basic sewing stitches, all while creating fun and crafty projects! No previous sewing experience is necessary.

JUNE 17-21 Bug Out!

Lily Thompson $160 Rising PK 8:00am-12:00pm Get acquainted with some creepy crawlies! Campers will learn about various insects through literature, science, and art. We will also have insect-inspired treats and go on an insect finding expedition. Come “bug out” with Ms. Thompson!

Pete the Cat Book Club Ariel Laws $160 Rising PK 8:00am-12:00pm We have some exciting news, Pete the Cat fans: Pete’s adventures continue this summer! Every day, we’ll read a new Pete the Cat book and do activities associated with the story. Your child will create fun crafts, sing and dance to Pete’s groovy songs, and enjoy adventures in our magic sunglasses. Come join us!

Little Dribblers Creative Education Services $260 Rising JK-SK 8:00am-12:00pm

Experience the excitement of basketball and soccer in a nurturing environment. Our program works with the basics of both sports, including ball handling, footwork, dribbling, shooting, passing, and scoring a goal.

Learn all about dinosaurs and the techniques used in extracting fossils in this hands-on camp. Go on your own fossil dig, analyze and assemble skeleton pieces, produce a fossil reconstruction, and use iPads to discover even more about dinosaurs. Little paleontologists will take home lots of cool daily dinosaur projects!

Little Art Explorers The Art Project $250 Rising JK-SK 8:00am-12:00pm

In this camp, kids will use a wide variety of art mediums and techniques - painting, collage, watercolor, glue, drawing, clay, and more. We’ll do lots of process-based art projects and sensory play to keep it fun and messy! Kids will bring home a portfolio of projects at the end of the week.

Learning in Motion Germantown Speech Language & Learning Clinic $225 Rising JK-SK 8:00am-12:00pm

Hosted by speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and wellness trainers with a fun, unique focus on teaching children self-regulation and the metacognitive skills necessary for functional and academic success. Each day will begin with activities grounded in evidence-based practice techniques to learn how to regulate impulses, behaviors, and emotions, which is foundational for successful participation in a variety of situations. Wellness training and whole-body listening will be integrated through physical movement and cognitive tasks in order to provide strategies for learning and remembering information.

Learn about ocean life while letting your curiosity of the sea bring your creativity out! We will focus on sea animals to create crafts, make treats, and even practice ocean yoga.

Chess is for everyone, even preschoolers! Beginners will learn about the amazing game of chess through play, songs, and crafts.

Prepare for the transition to the big school by learning about SK. Explore the classrooms, learn the daily schedule, and engage in STEAM activities. Campers will also hone in on early literacy by making a book and exploring what it means to be an author and illustrator.

GROUP SWIM LESSONS Group swim lessons are available for 1st-8th grade students. Lessons will be taught by certified swim instructor and GSL Lower School Teacher Elizabeth Bayzie. Group lessons are available the following dates: June 3-7 June 10-14 July 8-12 July 15-19 Class time - 12:45-1:15pm Cost - $175/week for 5 classes (30 min each) Swimmers should wear swimsuit and flip-flops/slides to pool and bring towel and goggles if needed. We’ll start the day with meditation and then get moving with some classic Zumba dance moves! Survive, build, code and more in today’s popular online programs! Campers must have an online (computer use) Minecraft account in order to play Minecraft. No account is needed for any of the other programs we will use this week. Game on!

Calling all the beach lovers. In this camp, kids will create fun crafts and fun summer snacks that will show their love for the beach! Let's have some fun, enjoy the summer, and admire the beach life!

LEGO Robotics & Coding Elizabeth Bayzie $150 Rising 2nd-5th 8:00am-12:00pm

Love building with LEGOs? We will spend the week working in groups to build and code using our LEGO Boost and LEGO Spike kits. With over 60 LEGO projects to choose from, your biggest challenge will be narrowing down which build to do!

Allyson Campbell $150 + $50 supply fee Rising 5th-8th 8:00am-12:00pm Do you love to mix it up in the kitchen? Test your skills and creativity with a week of fun cooking challenges based on classic American cuisine! Student chefs will work in teams to compete in two Chopped challenges each day. Take the challenge and come chop with us!

This program is designed specifically for children and involves smaller-sized courts, shorter nets, kid-sized rackets, and softer, less bouncy balls. This allows kids to play on courts and with gear that is tailored to their size and strength, making the game a lot more playable and fun. Our goal is to introduce kids to tennis at an early age in a non-pressure, fun environment. Many fun games are part of the curriculum to keep kids engaged and learning. Students must bring their own racquets.
