Girl Scout Camps Summer 2023

1

Girl Scout Camp is Magic.

Fun is what you’ll find there, but you'll leave with so much more. You’ll unlock creativity, skills, and leadership that you’ll never leave behind. At overnight Resident Camps (Bear Creek Aquatic Camp and Camp Pennyroyal), you might paddle across a lake, sail a boat, hike a trail, discover nature, and swim with friends when you’re not creating an artistic masterpiece or climbing through the trees in our challenge courses. Special meals together and classic camp songs (beside a fire you helped build) will fill your perfect evenings before cozy nights spent in the great outdoors.

At PLC Day Camps (in the heart of Louisville), you’ll spend a few days with old pals and new friends as you explore topics that interest you. Our council’s PLC is an amazing campus where you’ll stretch your leadership. You might try out indoor rock climbing, get creative in a Makers Space lab, and visit with guest experts from fields that match your interests. That’s only the beginning.

Our staff welcomes everyone. Did you know our camps welcome your friends who are not-yet Girl Scouts? Invite pals to attend with you! Camp is the ultimate introduction to everything Girl Scouts can experience. Some campers even attend more than one session. On top of the amazing camps we outline in this guide, many Volunteer-Led Day Camps will provide closer-to-home options for Girl Scouts and troops in areas throughout the council. Camp is where you grow by doing things you’ve never done before. You can take safe risks in a fun environment, surrounded by strong friends and adults who believe in you. There’s nothing else like it.

Find freedom and explore. You’ll leave camp with new skills, a happier understanding of our world, amazing friendships, and new confidence from fun adventures: the knowledge, values, and superpowers you’ll use long into adulthood.

Summer Camps have a place for you. Come make memories that last a lifetime.

About Our Camps

Bear Creek Aquatic Camp

4736 Barge Island Road

Benton, KY 42025

Nestled back in Girl Scout Bay on the banks of Kentucky Lake sits Bear Creek Aquatic Camp (a resident camp near Paducah). This sparkling shoreside camp offers aquatic adventures including sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, and a mega canoe that can seat 22 people.

Camp Pennyroyal

3095 Girl Scout Road

Utica, KY 42736

A woodland wonderland awaits campers at Camp Pennyroyal (a resident camp near Owensboro). The adventures take many forms at the eight-acre Wishing Star Lake (home to amazing, harmless freshwater jellyfish). Stargaze on the dam, explore the hiking trails, or enjoy a campfire at the lakefront amphitheater. Camp Pennyroyal has peaceful escapes and outdoor adventures waiting around every bend.

Louisville Program and Learning Center (PLC)

2115 Lexington Road Louisville, KY 40206

Our main offices for the council are just a small part of an amazing facility: our Program and Learning Center (PLC). The PLC is a perfect place to spend summer days. There's an indoor rock climbing wall for Juniors and above, while younger Girl Scouts will try their skills on our bouldering wall. The Makers Space is ready for creative projects like woodworking, painting, STEM activities, and lots more. The PLC is so much more than the headquarters of the Girl Scouts fun. It houses a little bit of history and a whole lot of tech, imagination, and adventure!

Bear Creek Aquatic Camp and Camp Pennyroyal are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) indicating safe, high-quality programs that meet industry and government standards.

How to Register for Resident and PLC Day Camp

Registration opens on Cyber Monday, November 28, 2022 at 8 am EST. The last day to register is Friday, May 19, 2023. Registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit gskentuckiana.org/summercamp and follow the link that takes you to CampDoc, our registration hub for all camper documents. Follow the prompts on CampDoc to complete registration. New to Girl Scouts? Annual membership must be added during the check out process.

A non-refundable deposit of $60 per Girl Scout is due when you register. All remaining balances must be paid by Friday, June 2, 2023. Registrants with unpaid balances after that day will be removed from the session roster, and their deposit will be forfeited. Payments toward camp can be made in full at any time prior to June 2 or can be paid via installments. We know things happen and plans can change, so families are able to cancel a reserved session for a refund (minus the $60 deposit) before Friday, May 26, 2023. In case of camp cancellations by GSK, all payments will be refunded.

Sessions fill very quickly. Once sessions reach capacity in CampDoc, campers can join the waitlist. If future capacity becomes available, new openings are offered via email on a firstcome, first-served basis from our waitlist. Hopeful campers on our waitlist will have five business days to respond to our email notice to claim the new spot.

Shortly after registering you will receive a confirmation email directly from CampDoc. This email will contain important information to guide you through the next steps of completing your health profile, payments, and accessing a camper’s Welcome Guide. If this email is not received within 24 hours, check your junk/spam folder, then please contact Volunteer Care.

Financial Assistance

Every Girl Scout should be able to make lasting memories at summer camp. Financial aid is available to ensure the same access to outdoor opportunities for all. In every instance the amount requested should reflect the true need of the family. This commitment to providing the leadership opportunities from camp experiences is made possible by the Joyce Seymour Leadership Fund, grants, and individual donors. All financial aid is contingent on dollars available. Financial aid applications for Volunteer-Led Day Camps must be received two weeks before the close of registration. Resident Camp and PLC Day Camp financial aid applications must be received by May 19, 2023. If you plan to take advantage of the great Cyber Monday Summer Camp discount and need financial assistance, your financial aid application is due by 5 pm EST on November 21, 2022.

To apply, visit gskentuckiana.org/jslf.

Earn Your Way to Camp

Campers can use previously earned Kentuckiana Credits to pay towards camp costs. Kentuckiana Credits may be used to pay a portion or the entirety of camp costs, but plan ahead: 2021-2022 Kentuckiana Credits expire on November 30, 2022. To apply Kentuckiana Credits to camp, use the form at bit.ly/kcform23

Looking ahead, the Girl Scout Cookie Program is a great way for campers to earn a cost-free summer adventure. When a Girl Scout sells 2,500+ boxes, they earn a free week of Resident Camp—along with a friend! Reserve your spot with a $60 deposit, then receive a refund when you reach the reward level.

Transportation Available for 2023

Transportation is available for Bear Creek Aquatic Camp and Camp Pennyroyal from Louisville and Beaver Dam. Campers travel in comfort on motor coach buses with AC, bathroom, and movies. Round-trip cost is $100 and one-way is $50. Bus transportation may be canceled if the required minimum number of riders is not reached. You can register for the bus until the day prior to your camper’s session. On May 20, the price shifts to $125 for round-trip and $80 for one-way.

Including Every Girl Scout

Our goal is to provide a positive experience for all campers. Please help ensure your Girl Scout’s successful camp experience. Contact us at least one month prior to the session to discuss any physical, behavioral, emotional, dietary, or other needs for your camper. Once we have reviewed your camper’s needs, we will determine if we can safely accommodate those needs at camp. All are welcome at Girl Scout Camp. We are inspired to provide communities of acceptance where you’ll enjoy meeting new people from different backgrounds. At camp, we come together to challenge ourselves as we spend time in nature, try new things, and learn new skills. Our staff welcomes you to the magic of camp

Health and Safety

The health and safety of our campers and staff is always a top priority. Trained First Aid staff are at camp sessions, and plans are established for medical intervention from local providers. For public health concerns, camp sessions operate based on current recommendations from the Center for Disease Control, American Camp Association, and local government.
