About the Girl Scout Bronze Award

The Bronze Award is one of the highest awards a Girl Scout can earn, available to girls in fourth and fifth grade who completed a Junior Journey and teamed up with the troop to make a difference in their community. These outstanding Girl Scouts had to complete a minimum 20 hours of work, share equal responsibilities, and focus on teamwork and group decision-making along the way.

Drummer Boy Campground Clean Up

Isabella cleaned up trash around a local campground, installed small trash cans on poles around the site, and recycled trash in the area.

Aid to the Forever Love Rescue Shelter

The girls designed posters and organized a collection of used towels, toys, litter, and food for a local shelter. They also made fleece blankets and cat scratchers, teaching others to make the items as well.

The girls collected money and donations to create hygiene bags for people experiencing homelessness. They worked with their local police department to distribute the bags to those in need.

The Girl Scout Garden, a sensory garden installation

Restoring an abandoned fairy garden at a local elementary school, the troop designed elements for each of the five senses. They also designed a website for Girl Scouts to maintain and add to the garden in the future.

Kitty Krew: Developing Girl Scout Programming at Centre County PAWS

Ainsley enjoyed reading to cats and socializing with the felines at a local shelter, but she was too young to officially volunteer. So, she created animal-care programming for Girl Scouts that aligned with badges for Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, and Cadettes.

The girls created puppy adoption bags for a local kennel. They made homemade treats and toys as well as informational pamphlets to include in the bags for new pet owners.

Every Girl Deserves a Prom Dress

Knowing many girls in her community could not afford formal wear for school dances, Chloe collected previously owned gowns and held an event for girls to shop for free. She also provided free alterations as well as accessories to go with the dress.

Community Hands Enjoying 1 Adventure at a Time

Braelyn and Molly collected more than 350 books, created more than 200 bookmarks, and decorated 10 steel tin can containers to hold the bookmarks. Each bookmark featured a message of kindness, and the books and bookmarks were distributed among seven Little Libraries in their region.

Light Up the Night

The girls noticed that cabins at Camp Louise needed some sprucing up, so they painted three of the units and added constellations inside. The starry designs provide flair while also teaching campers about the night sky.

The girls partnered with their PTO to provide food for students in need, organizing a drive, packing bags, and delivering them weekly. They also created a cookbook with non-cook recipes for future food program participants.

Bat and Butterfly Houses

The girls researched and built bat and butterfly houses, planted butterfly bushes, and presented to their municipal board on how these additions to a local nature trail benefit the community and support local wildlife.

Sophia organized a stuffed animal drive, collecting over 200 new toys through local libraries and a children’s museum. These were distributed to emergency agencies to comfort children in traumatic situations.

Preserving and Beautifying Camp Catherine

Troop 11102 created a pollinator garden, enhancing existing gardens with sustainable plants, mulching, painting outdoor furniture, and adding solar lights. Their efforts improved the camp’s beauty and sustainability for future visitors.

When she learned the camp her sister attended for children with cancer could use blankets for campers, Adryen took action. She created blankets for kids to have at camp and then take home with them to use while getting treatment at the hospital.

Marley knows that if more people recycle, there will be less trash in the landfills and on roadsides. She improved a local recycling program and encouraged community participation by hosting an Earth Day drive, changing recycling days, and dropping fees.
