S T U O C S L ABOUT GIR OUR 21 COUNTIES Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina serves girls and adults in 21 counties: Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Berkeley, Calhoun, Charleston, Chesterfield, Clarendon, Colleton, Darlington, Dillon, Dorchester, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Lee, Marion, Marlboro, Orangeburg and Williamsburg. These counties are divided into Service Areas to serve our membership and community.

WHAT GIRL SCOUTS DO WHAT GIRL SCOUTS DO

We give girls fun, life-changing experiences they might not otherwise have, in an all-girl, girl-led environment where they are encouraged to stretch their limits and build courage and confidence. That can mean day camp, resident camp, building business skills through the Cookie Program, horseback riding, cooking, or travel. Girl Scouts range from K5 through Grade 12, with experiences that are gradelevel and age appropriate.

OUR KEY GOALS Developing self-potential. Relating to others. Developing values. Contributing to society. In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together, and they grow courageous and strong. Learn more about our Girl Scouts, our council, and our events at www.gsesc.org and www.facebook.com/GirlScoutsESC.

GE D I R Y D N A S WELCOME TO YOUR SUMMER STARTS HERE Get ready for an unforgettable week packed with laughter, excitement, and nonstop fun. Every camper dives into our core activities: create tasty outdoor treats, light up the night with campfires, compete on the sports field, and sharpen your skills with archery, tomahawk throwing, and slingshots. Feeling bold? Try paintball for a burst of adrenaline!

COOL OFF AND GET CREATIVE COOL OFF AND GET CREATIVE

When it's time to cool down, head to our beach, jump in the pool, bounce around on the inflatable water course, or paddle across the lake in a boat. Feeling creative? Arts and crafts are always buzzing with color and imagination. And don't forget the Trading Post for souvenirs and goodies!

IT'S YOUR WEEK Each specialty camp comes with its own exclusive adventures, tailored to your interests. Plus, with our girl-led program, you and your friends help shape the week by choosing the extra activities YOU want to do. Whether you're wild about the outdoors, ready to get messy with paint and glue, or pumped for highenergy games, Camp Sandy Ridge has something perfect for you. Let's make this your best summer ever! — Chuck Iler, Camp Director (aka Squirrel)

The packet includes all necessary forms, check-in and check-out procedures, a packing list, and anything else your camper needs. Follow the directions in the packet about which forms to bring to check-in. If you don't receive a packet, email Sandyridge@girlscoutsesc.org.

OUR CAMP STAFF OUR CAMP STAFF

Our staff are the biggest reason your camper has a great week. Every staff member completes a background check, extensive screening, and an interview. We choose them for experience, maturity, judgment, and a real desire to share their enthusiasm with kids. All staff complete intensive on-site training before camp opens and are evaluated throughout the summer, and our Camp Director and Assistant Director are highly trained specialists in their fields.

CELL PHONES AT CAMP Campers may bring a cell phone. Phones are kept with counselors in a lock box, and campers may use them to call home during rest hour, 12:30 to 1:30pm daily. Sundays and Thursdays are opening and closing campfires and may run late, so phones are not available those nights. Phones are never allowed in restrooms or cabins. Campers without a phone may use the camp office phone. We like girls to disconnect at camp, but we understand you want to hear from your child. Please talk with your camper about this before arrival.

CAMP LIFE LOST & FOUND Please check the lost and found table at check-out. Lost items are displayed at lunchtime each day so campers can claim them before the end of the week. Anything left behind goes to the North Charleston office at the end of the season, and unclaimed items are donated to charity on September 30, 2027. Lost items must be picked up; GSESC cannot mail them. Label everything with your camper's first and last name.

CAMP NAMES CAMP NAMES

Ever wonder why our staff have nicknames? "Ms." and "Mr." feel too formal for camp, and first names feel too familiar, so camp names solve the problem and have become a treasured tradition. Staff pick a name that reminds them of something they love, a place they're from, or a nickname from their own childhood. At Sandy Ridge you might meet a Squirrel, a River, or a Flower!

CAMPER BEHAVIOR Everyone lives by the Girl Scout Promise and Law while at camp, and our staff do everything they can to help girls settle into camp life. GSESC reserves the right to send home any camper who consistently behaves unsuitably, endangers herself or the camp community, or treats others unacceptably. In that case parents or guardians are responsible for picking her up promptly, and there is no refund or adjustment of camp fees.

E M O H G N I MISS IT'S NORMAL, AND IT'S OKAY We prefer the term "missing home" to the old word "homesickness," because there is nothing wrong with a camper missing home. It's a natural feeling, and she isn't sick. Missing home is simply what happens when you're away from the people you love. Almost every child, and plenty of grown-ups, feels it at some point. Feelings vary in intensity, and our staff are prepared for all of it.

HOW WE HANDLE IT HOW WE HANDLE IT

Research shows some things have no bearing on how strongly a camper misses home, including how far camp is from home and whether she brought a friend along. Most of the time missing home isn't a problem at all. When the sadness gets strong enough that making friends, having fun, sleeping, eating, or joining activities becomes difficult, we step in. Campers who are missing home aren't put on the phone; a member of our core team will call you directly if it's needed. The best remedy is a partnership between families and camp staff, so please reach out to us any time.
