I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer and getting ready to celebrate the upcoming July 4th holiday. Planning for the fall semester continues with expectations for a record enrollment at Georgia Southern The incoming freshman class is shaping up to be larger than originally projected which is causing some concerns for COSM as we look to expand capacity in the CORE math and science courses Additionally, we continue to work through the integration of East Georgia State College into GeorgiaSouthernwithsomeofthedetailsoutlinedinDr Marrero’srecentemail
ForCOSM,thecurrentreportsshowanexpected723newstudentsenteringourdegreeprograms.Thisis upfromthe571newstudentsatthesametimelastyear.Basedoncurrentprojections,thereisagood chance that COSM’s total headcount enrollment will exceed 2,000 students in fall. The new BS biomedical science program already has 110 students enrolled for the fall semester with a number of new students yet to be registered. As we get closer to the start of fall classes, I will share more details abouttheenrollmentbyprograms.Theenrollmentdatachangesdailyoversummer,butitcontinuesto trendinapositivedirectionforCOSM.
Ihopeeveryoneismakingplanstoattendthe2ndAnnualCOSMSummerResearchShowcaseeventon July 24th. It is shaping up to be another great event. Please consider presenting your research at the event.SeveralmembersoftheCabinetareplanningtoattend,includingournewProvostDr.Mukherjee and Dr Marrero This will be a great opportunity to make a positive first impression to the new provost abouttheincrediblefacultyandstudentresearchersinCOSM

Thissummer,theUniversityLibrarieswillupgradetoanewLibraryServicesPlatform(LSP)aspartofa cost-savinginitiativebytheUniversitySystemofGeorgia(USG)andGALILEO.LSPsarenext-generation librarymanagementsystemsthatcombineessentiallibraryfunctionsintooneseamless,customizable platformtoimproveinstitutionalefficiencyandenhanceteachingandlearning.Thisupgradewillbring changestotheGIL-Findcatalog,Discover@GeorgiaSouthern,andhowtheLibrariesconnectyoutoprint andelectronicresources.
