UPDATES FROM THE DEAN Happy Cinco de Mayo!! It is that time of year where we reflect on this academic year as it comes to a close. As finals and commencement ceremonies approach, I want to thank everyone for a great year in COSM. You have accomplished so much this year that is worthy of celebration and appreciation - Thank you!! Please join me at the College Town Hall on Thursday, May 8th at 1 PM to hear more details. I will also share some details about the upcoming consolidation with East Georgia State College and other updates.

At this time, I am also happy to announce the results of the 2025 Research Excellence Recognition program.

ANNUAL ACHIEVEMENTS: Annual research excellence recognitions celebrate individuals for their exceptional research achievements within a specific year. These recognitions acknowledge outstanding contributions made by researchers during the previous year in terms of research publications, citations, and grant funding.

UPDATES FROM THE LIBRARY Action Required: University Libraries’ Migration to a New Services Platform This Summer On July 16, 2025, the University System of Georgia (USG) will migrate all USG libraries to a new Platform that will result in significant upgrades and changes to the University Libraries' GIL-Find Catalog and Course Reserves.

Action Required by University Faculty: To ensure a seamless transition for you and your students, we are requesting your assistance in identifying and updating any existing GIL-Find links. These links could include “galileo” or “ebsco” in the URL. This includes links that faculty could have embedded in their: Syllabi Folio course pages Online resource lists Any other digital or printed materials We ask that you create a list of all the links you are currently using and share them with your designated library liaison as soon as possible, and no later than May 30, 2025. We will then review the links you share with us and provide you with updated URLs as soon as they become available. We are doing this to minimize disruptions to your teaching and research activities.

There are other important deadlines during this transition that will affect your summer and fall classes: As soon as possible, and no later than May 30, 2025, please send your Summer course reserves materials to the Libraries. If we do not receive your course materials for reserves by May 30, you and your students may experience delays in accessing these materials due to the System-wide migration.

Please expect a 2 week period of limited check-out of laptops and equipment during Summer 2025.

Refer to this website for exact dates as they become available. The University Libraries will not have software to manage transactions during the data migration phase performed by USG. Book and DVD/video checkout will remain available during the entire summer and will be handled manually.

Effective June 1, 2025 (tentatively), borrowing materials from other USG campuses will be suspended. Please plan ahead and request in advance of this deadline any materials you will need during the summer semesters. These services are expected to resume towards the end of July 2025.

COSM SPRING ELECTIONS We need to select senators and committee members to represent COSM on the Faculty Senate, Senate Committees, and University Committees. Faculty Senators serve for 3-year terms and Alternates serve for 1-year terms. Committee representatives serve 2-year terms (except for the Academic Standards committee). Committee Alternates serve 2-year terms. Please see document for a description of committee responsibilities/ purposes.

As a first step in this process, nominations are being accepted for the following positions. Please keep in mind that you may nominate yourself and more than one person for any seat. Nominations are open through midnight, May 6. COSM Lunch & Learn: “Looking Backward, Planning Forward” with Dr. Lauren Barbeau Co-author of Critical Teaching Behaviors: Defining, Documenting, & Discussing Good Teaching In this session, we’ll examine the benefits of reflecting on our teaching and identify strategies to incorporate regular reflection into our practice. We’ll consider data and perspectives we can gather to inform our reflection as well as opportunities to share our reflections to inspire a growth-oriented teaching culture among our colleagues.

COSM Promotion and Tenure Workshop The P&T workshop is for early career faculty (Lecturers, NTT and TT Assistant Professors) who haven't yet gone through their first promotion. It offers clarity on the COSM promotion and tenure process and provides a chance to get your questions answered.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ARMSTRONG MOTOR POOL TRAINING They are finally live with the Armstrong Motor Pool. If you are interested in going through the in person training required to gain access to the motor pool John Pate’s (Logistics Supervisor) plan is to do trainings every Wednesday and Friday at 1:00 pm. He does plan on start doing training sessions this Wednesday May 7th and Friday May 9th.

If you can make one of these dates, please let John Pate know and he will send a calendar invite. The training will be held on site at the University Police Department. They will have to all gather in the lobby and once everyone is there they will escort everyone back to the training room. Attached are the steps below as a reminder for anyone who I may have missed.

Step 1: Fuel Card Driver Acknowledgement Training 1. Go to: doas.ga.gov 2. Create an account if you don’t have one.

3. Hover over the Fleet Management box and select Fleet Fuel Cards.

4. Select Fuel Card Driver Acknowledgement.

5. Follow the prompts to complete the process: 6. Select the current fiscal year.

7. Confirm that you are a state employee (not a contracted driver).

8. Choose "I am a new driver" and complete the required training.

9. Training Completion: 10. Complete the “Statewide Fuel Card Standards and Guidelines for Drivers” and the corresponding video.

11. Check the box to certify that you have completed the training.

12. Digitally sign and submit your information.

13. Print/Save PDF of your certificate of completion.

Step 2: WEX Fuel Card PIN Each driver must have a WEX Fuel Card PIN. To request your PIN: Complete the FOR PIN portion of the Fuel Card (WEX) Form.

Submit the form to purchasing@georgiasouthern.edu along with the Fuel Card Driver Acknowledgement Certificate from step one Wait for updates on receiving your WEX Fuel Card PIN Step 3: In Person Training Complete required in person training at the motor pool location (Armstrong Police Department). The training takes about an hour and we will introduce users to the reservation system, go over how to make reservations, and demo the key pickup/return process.
