The McNair Scholars Program (available on the Statesboro and Armstrong campuses) is expanding andsolicitingpotentialscholarswhoarefirstgenerationand/orunderrepresentedintheirgraduate programs, with a preference given to STEM students. Students must be sophomores, juniors or nongraduating seniors (graduating May 2025, Summer 2025 or December of 2025). One of the goals of the McNair Scholars program is to make sure that participants are interested in pursuing graduate education and earning a Ph.D/Ed.D. Dr. John Allen is a general and bariatric surgeon with East Georgia Medical and Surgical Associates and Cedar Surgical Associates. He is a board-certified surgeon by the American Board of Surgery andamemberofthemedicalstaffatEastGeorgiaRegionalMedicalCenter,havingjoinedboththe medicalgroupandthehospitalinlateAugust.
Dr. Allen completed his fellowship in advanced gastroenterology, minimally invasive, and bariatric surgery at the University of South Carolina in Greenville, SC, and his general surgery residency at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
