Updates From The Dean - Issue 24

To follow up from last week’s Employee Engagement Survey meeting, I want to highlight two quotes in regards to change and progress:

“Everybody loves progress, but nobody likes change”

And

“All change may not be progress, but all progress is the result of change” - John Wooden

As I near the end of my first academic year at Georgia Southern, I can clearly see where the past 5-6 years have had tremendous change, which likely has not led to what many of us would see as progress. Our focus needs to shift towards highlighting areas where we have, in fact, made progress as well as beginning to make meaningful progress on areas that may have only seen change.

COSM will be developing action plans meant to improve areas within the issues highlighted in the results of our Employee Engagement Survey. Specifically, I propose working to improve effective communication and the net promoter scores for COSM as highlighted on pages 18-20 of the report. I believe that the net promoter scores are our best measure of morale in COSM. So more broadly, we will be working to improve the morale of COSM faculty and staff. I look forward to continuing conversations on this topic!

Highlighting some recent progress, the table shows the annual SCH production for COSM. After three consecutive years of decline, we saw an overall increase of 5.38% in SCH production for the 2023-2024 academic year (fall, spring & summer). Especially noteworthy is the 19% increase in graduate SCH!!

Thank you again for a great 2023-2024 academic year, and thank you for welcoming me to Georgia Southern. It is truly a great place to work, especially with such outstanding faculty and staff. I hope to see you at commencement!!
