GENERAL UPDATES & INFORMATION

FederalResearchFundingLandscape

Recentfederalappropriationshavecreatedamorestable,thoughstilluncertain,researchfundingoutlookforNIH andNSF.ThefinalFY2026Labor-HHSappropriationsbillpassedlastweekprovidesroughly$47.2billionforNIH,a modestincreaseofabout$415millionoverFY2025,andmaintainsoverallHHSfundingnearpriorlevels,signaling continuedcongressionalsupportforbiomedicalresearchdespiteearlierproposalsfordeepcuts Atthesametime, earlierappropriationsactivityaroundNSFindicatesfundingpressuresremain Thebillseliminatedthe15%F&Acap andshiftedNIHawayfromthe“lumpsumpaymentmodel” Thetraditionalmulit-yearpaymentmodelforawarding researchgrantsshouldprovideanopportunitytosupportmoregrantawards
