Updates From The Dean

ThelastoftheListeningSessionswasheldonFriday,Sept22. Iamcurrently compilingeverythingandwillsendouttheuneditedresultsviaemaillaterthis week. Eachsessionhad8-10facultyandstaffattendwithalittlemorethan40 facultyandstaffparticipatingoverall. Forthosethatwereunabletoattenda listeningsession,Iaskedtheattendeesthreequestions: whatarethetopfive thingsworkingwellinCOSMortheirdepartment?,whatarethetopfivethingsnot workingwellinCOSMortheirdepartment?,andwhatarethetop5thingsCOSM shouldbeworkingoninthenext12months?. Wesharedeveryone’sindividual answerstogenerateamorecomprehensivelistofitemsforeachquestion. From thecomprehensivelists,attendeeswereaskedtoselecttheirtopfouritems whichprovidedsomefinalprioritizationtotheresults.

Inadditiontosendingtheuneditedlistsforreview,Iwillincludeasynthesizedlist ofitemsforeachquestionthatcombinessimilaritemsandthemes. Thislistwill beusedinaQualtricssurveytoallfacultyandstaffinCOSMwhereyouwillbe askedtoselectyourtopfiveitemstoeachquestion. Theresultsofthissurveywill beusedbytheleadershipteamtohelpguideouractionsandeffortsforthenext 12months. Ihopetohavethesurveyreadybytheendofthemonth.

ActivityattheGeorgiaSouthernResearchComplexatSavannahisreadyto moveforward.ThisistheoldGeorgiaBureauofInvestigationscomplexon MohawkStreetneartheArmstrongCampus(basicallyacrossAbercornStreet fromcampus).RenovationsfortheInstituteforWaterandHealtharenearly complete.Inaddition,effortsareunderwaytoopenablockoffacultyresearch laboratoriesinthecomplex.Thespacewillbeopentofacultywithgrantfunded researchrequiringwetlabspace-hoods,benches,etc.Ihaverequestedspace forfourCOSMfacultyresearchersinthefacility.Theseresearchlabswillbe criticalaspartofCOSM’sresearchgrowthandexpansionplans.Ifyouhaveany questionsabouttheSavannahResearchComplex,pleasereachouttoDr. Hugginsoryourrespectivedepartmentchair.
