) Despite strong winds, an estimated 30,000 people marched for trans rights at Trans Pride Brighton & Hove, which celebrated 10 years of trans joy, on Saturday, July 15

While the main event at Brunswick Park was cancelled due to the weather, venues such as the Brighton Dome, Ledward Centre and the Actors stepped up as venues for those attending the event.

The Trans Pride Committee said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who showed up.

“The last 24 hours have been completely insane. We went from worrying that this organisation would not be able to continue past this year to taking over the city. We’re a small team of volunteers organising Trans Pride around our day jobs and in our own time.

“We really can’t tell you how much your support has meant to us. Together we have fought the earth, wind, rain and fire and trans joy has been triumphant over everything!”

GLAMOROUS BRIGHTON

Scene sits down to talk future plans with the newest LGBTQ+ bar on the block

) Tell us a bit about Glamorous...

Matt Eason, Glamorous’ owner, worked behind the bar at the Birmingham venue when it was under different stewardship. He went on to lease several other LGBTQ+ bars in Mansfield and Wakefield.

In 2015 Matt took the opportunity to become the new custodian of the venue that is now known as Glamorous Birmingham. In 2018, an opportunity to expand into nearby Coventry came to light. In 2022 Stonegate decided to turn some of their managed portfolio in to leasehold property with Glamorous being the test for this in Oxford.

Why did you choose to come to Brighton?

Glamorous as a company has been expanding over previous years and has been looking for further venues already situated within LGBTQ+ areas.

We’d love for there to be a big story of millions of pounds exchanging hands, however the truth of it is Stonegate, who we lease several of our other venues from, offered us the chance of taking over the property in Brighton and we jumped at the chance.

What will Glamorous bring to Gay Brighton?

We’re going to inject our own camp fun into all of the days we’re open. Karaoke, spin the wheel and cabaret... Lots of cabaret!

With regards to cabaret, we’re going to have a fine blend of acts from the area, acts from the Midlands area that may not have played Brighton for a long time (or at all), and some community-based drag related events. A mix

"With its inclusive atmosphere and captivating events, Glamorous Brighton is the perfect destination to celebrate love, acceptance, and self-expression."

of what currently works in Brighton, what we know from operating in the Midlands, and nurturing new local drag talent.

We hope to become a valuable addition to Brighton’s scene.

How will Glamorous Brighton differ to Glamorous Birmingham?

The immediate operating difference between Glamorous Brighton and Birmingham is that Brighton is a bar and Birmingham is a nightclub.

They both trade very differently. Brighton will focus more on the drag elements whereas Birmingham is very much DJ and music-led.

Plans for Brighton & Hove Pride?

We’re going to be open throughout the Pride weekend with our own Glamorous acts who are residents at our other venues on stage throughout the days.

One of our DJs, Mike Emery, will be on the Pride Village Party stage each day as well as playing at the venue until late.

Anything we can look forward to in the next couple of month?

Full details of who we will be booking will be on our social media and of course advertised in Scene magazine in future months.

Notably though, one of our fabulous residents from Oxford, Jelly Cube, will be making her Brighton debut on Saturday, August 12. She’s

an amazing vocalist, I know it gets said quite a lot about acts, but she genuinely is amazing. We can’t wait to hear and see her on our stage!

) Glamorous Brighton can be found in the heart of the gay village at 2-3 High Street, Brighton, BN2 1RP.

) Opening hours: Sunday-Thursday, noonmidnight; Friday & Saturday, noon-1am
