From the Headmaster In terms of time, one element of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity has often been tested, and proven in schools. When a class is interesting and engaging, time appears to accelerate. As the old adage goes, time flies when you are having fun. However, when a topic or task is difficult, the reverse is true. Between the back-to-school excitement of September and the flurry of year-end activities and events in May and June, the year has gone by very quickly; it is a testament to just how successful the year has been. Indeed, it feels like it was just yesterday when my daughter, Dylan, started kindergarten at GSB. Last Sunday, she and her classmates received their diplomas as members of the Class of 2014. It was a bittersweet moment for me, as this chapter in our lives comes to an end. Where did the time go? It certainly went by incredibly fast, and I am sure that many of our parents feel the same way. While 2013-14 was not without its challenges, especially given the winter weather, it was a very good year for the school. From academics to the arts and athletics, students across all divisions have achieved a great deal of success throughout the year. The 2014 college matriculation list (see back cover), boasting an impressive array of colleges and universities, is one that every member of the GSB community may be proud of. School spirit is high, and it was gratifying to hear our Commencement speakers share their feelings about the school. As we head into the months of June, July and August, preparations for the 2014-15 school year have already begun. Summer is a time of additional work on the campus and our facilities and operations teams have already begun multiple projects. The final touches are now being made to the newly built Conger Alumni House and an outdoor all-weather sport court. Both are welcome additions to our school.

Headmaster Sid Rowell.
This summer, we will also welcome two new administrators to our administrative team: Middle School Director Kyle Armstrong and Director of Admission and Financial Aid Sarah Rowland. I am very excited about the prospect of working with both and feel that each brings tremendous experience to these important leadership positions. I would like to thank all of our faculty and staff members, as well as the members of our board of trustees, for their tireless efforts throughout the school year. The commitment they demonstrate on a daily basis to Gill St. Bernard’s is amazing. I would also like to thank all of our parents for their continued support of the school. Congratulations once again to the Class of 2014. I am confident all of our graduates will continue to achieve success in college and beyond. Further, I look forward to hearing from them in the years to come when they return to visit. I wish all a safe and enjoyable summer. See you in September. Warm regards,
Sid Rowell 1.
