start making memories summ er c am p m emo ri e s are th e b e st m emo ri e s ! Welcome to the magical world of summer camp at Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council. Camp is a place where girls can create memories, make new discoveries, develop lifelong friendships and learn new skills. We strive to make camp a place where girls can become the best they can be, learn to care for and protect the environment and feel a part of the camp community. At camp, girls are empowered to step outside their comfort zone, take risks and grow as leaders. All the programs and sessions offered through our camps are designed to fulfill Girl Scout Leadership Experience outcomes while challenging girls to do new and exciting activities – some of which are only offered at camp. Girl Scout camp is very affordable and a great value for girls and their families. Whether your camper is new or a seasoned camp veteran, there is a program for her. Please take time to explore which camp is right for your camper. Curious about what happens at summer camp? Check out our Summer Camp Diary video at http:// youtu.be/Ss3lVdsBqiw Registration begins February 4. Registration is available online, via fax, via mail or walk in. Counselors & Staff

shadow rim ov e r n i g h t c a m p • pay s o n , a Z

Shadow Rim Ranch is a 40-acre camp situated along the beautiful Mogollon Rim at an elevation of 5,500 feet. The camp features cabin units, covered program ramadas, a “pake” (too big to be a pond, too small to be a lake), and a climbing tower.

Camp Directors recruit and screen mature, qualified staff who have a desire to share their enthusiasm for camping, the outdoors, and arts with girls. We also hire staff from other countries to give your camper the chance to broaden her understanding of other cultures. All camp staff participates in an intensive pre-camp training which includes program, first aid, CPR, camping, relationship skills and drug testing. Specially qualified staffers direct the water activities, archery, challenge course, rock climbing and horseback riding areas. Do you know someone who would like to live and work in the cool pines this summer? We are currently hiring for all positions including Nurses, Cooks, Kitchen Staff, Counselors and Program Specialists. Staff must be 18 or have graduated from high school.

buddies @ camp

Girl Scout camp is a wonderful way to meet new people. A camper may request ONE “buddy” on her camp registration form. Both campers must register for the same program or session. Buddies can be requested when completing the on-line registration process. Make sure you and your child’s buddy and her parents are planning this together. Bunk buddy placement is not guaranteed. Unfortunately, large groups and multiple buddy requests CANNOT be accommodated.

Health and Safety

Our camps meet stringent national standards. The main gate is locked nightly at each camp, and local law enforcement agencies are notified of our camp sessions. A health supervisor (RN, EMT or ARC Certified First Aider) is on duty at all times during the camp sessions to supervise the health and safety of all campers and to dispense all prescribed medications.

Nurses Needed

One of the most important and critical jobs to fill at camps is the Health Supervisor which requires highly specialized training. Because it has become increasingly difficult to find nurses who can live and work the full summer at our camps, we are now looking for several individuals who would “job share” these very important positions at camp. Camp-age campers of the health supervisor can attend our sessions at a reduced fee. To be eligible you need to be a registered nurse, EMT or paramedic (licensed in Arizona) who would consider living and working at camp for at least one full week (Sunday morning through Friday night). For more information, please contact a camp director.

Girls with Special Needs (including special diets)

Please contact the Camp Director for campers requiring special diets (including severe food allergies), special health care or with mobility limitations. At that time, you will be able to discuss the nature of your camper’s needs and gather additional information to determine if the camp can provide the proper support, supervision and necessary accommodations for your camper to have a safe, fulfilling camp experience. To be successful at camp, your camper needs to be independent in showering, dressing, using the restroom and be able to manage in an 8:1 camper to staff ratio. We are dedicated to serving ALL girls in our council and accommodations can be made in many cases. Please contact the camp director for more information prior to registering.

general information Transportation to Camp

Campers have two transportation options for resident camp:

1. Parents may drive their campers to and from camp. 2. Register for bus transportation from the Phoenix metropolitan area.

We recommend the busing option. This gives girls an opportunity to meet other girls before they arrive at camp. It also reduces the wear and tear on the camp’s natural environment. Buses are equipped with air-conditioning, bathrooms, and are supervised. The bus fee for resident camp is $60. Bus fee is non-refundable if cancelled less than 10 days before the start of camp. (One way is not available.) Bus locations can be found online. The transportation permission form is required to ride the bus – the form is available online. Your camper can ride the bus for free! All you have to do is be a bus chaperone! Call 602.452.7000 or email campbus@girlscoutsaz.org.

Email

One way email, from you to your camper, is available through “Bunk Notes.” There is a nonrefundable fee associated with Bunk Notes. Although we try our best to ensure Bunk Notes are delivered daily, we cannot guarantee delivery due to the intermittent nature of internet service at Camp.

Bunk Replies will be available for campers to electronically respond to family! Bunk Replies are purchased with Bunk Notes. Campers write their message on the Bunk Replies, the camp faxes the Bunk Replies to Bunk 1, and then Bunk 1 will email the Bunk Replies to the designated email addresses.

Cell Phones @ Camp

Cell phones are NOT allowed during any of our camp sessions. The complete policy is available online.

Blogs

Each camp posts a weekly blog to help parents stay connected and see what’s happening at camp. Blogs may contain pictures and stories, but we cannot guarantee pictures or stories about every child. The blogs are a way to keep parents informed of weather and exciting activities that occur at camp. » http://shadowrimranch.blogspot.com » http://campmaripai.blogspot.com » http://campwillowsprings.blogspot.com

paying for camp Deposits

A non-refundable $30 deposit per session is required at time of registration. Family and troop camp registration must include a $30 per person deposit. The deposit is applied to the cost of the session.

Refunds, Cancellations & Changes

Cancellations received in writing up to 10 days before the start of a session will be refunded, less the $30 deposit. Bus fees are refundable up to 10 days before the start of a session. Requests for refunds will only be considered until August 31, 2014. Non-refundable camp fees are not transferable to other campers. Refunds will not be given for no-shows. If you need to change the session for which your camper is registered, you will have a grace period of five business days after the registration date at no cost. Any changes after that are subject to a $30 change fee which will be added to the balance on the account. If a camper must leave camp early due to illness, injury or a death in the family, the camp fee minus the deposit will be prorated and refunded. Camp fees will not be refunded if a camper leaves a session due to homesickness or misconduct.

Payment of Balance

The balance of the camp fee is due on the Monday two weeks before the start of the session. You will receive an invoice with your confirmation materials as well as an email reminder three weeks before your payment due date. Cancellation will occur if payment is not received two weeks prior to the start of camp.

Financial Assistance – Camperships

GSACPC makes every effort to provide financial assistance so that no girl misses out on the opportunity to attend camp. Financial assistance ranges from a portion to the total camp fee, minus the deposit. The form is available online and camp registration must be complete prior to applying. Notification regarding financial assistance will be sent via a separate email from the confirmation packet. Please allow six weeks for processing.

Cookie Dough/Program credits

Cookie Dough/Program Credits can be earned by girls for selling Girl Scout cookies. The more cookies a girl sells, the more Cookie Dough/Program Credits she can earn. It can then be used to pay for any or all of your summer camp balance. Girls receive the certificates for Cookie Dough/Program Credits after the Cookie Program is complete. Cookie Dough/ Program Credits can also be used in the Trading Post at all camps.

Complete a horse related service project and take part in an all-day trail ride. You will also help saddle, groom, feed and care for the horses. Girls enrolled in the WIT program must have advanced riding abilities and horsemanship experience. You must be able to independently saddle, bridle, groom, and control your horse at a walk, trot, and lope with a balanced seat. If you are unable to pass the riding test, we reserve the right to place you into our CIT 2 program. »» Focus: Healthy Living »» Award: WIT Rocker *part of Maripai’s Horse Patch Program
