I carry the greeting of Transition Project’s former leader, George Devendorf. Many of you were last in this room in 2019, celebrating Transition Project’s 50th anniversary. Remember! Life was so different prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. While our world was collapsing around us, the pandemic put a spotlight on unhoused children, individuals, and families in our community.
My world was also different in 2019. At that time, I was living in the state of Georgia, another one of my adopted states in addition to Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, Virginia, and California. Today, I celebrate being here with you, continuing the work Transition Projects began now 54 years ago. With your support, a mighty team of 300 staff support participants through a trauma-informed lens. Services include community outreach, shelter programs, and permanent supportive housing.
Did I mention that we educate families, so they can be successful renters? Rent Well, a State of Oregon-sanctioned program administered by Transition Projects, has educated over 2,000 future renters https://www.tprojects.org/get-assistance/rentwell. Completion of the certificate program gives families a leg up to engage with landlords and property management to achieve permanent housing.
You could have been anywhere tonight. You chose to be here - on behalf of the board of directors, our leadership team, our employees, our participants, and sister agencies, thank you for giving!
Next year, I will greet you in my Georgia tongue of Hey, Y’all.
