A Q&A SESSION WITH KAY ARWEN

Kay Arwen, author of fantasy young adult fiction book, Dimensions: The Awakening, has spent some time to answer a few questions about her new book, her writing style and what she has been up to in the last year.

Who are you?

I live on the Isle of Skye. I am a writer, mystic, therapist and a healer. I have founded an energy therapy and self-development system in the UK and work with people to manifest their dreams and fulfil their potential. I am passionate about authenticity and people connecting to the wealth and abundance that they have at their core.

How did you get the idea for Dimensions?

My own life and experiences and personal growth. They are all interwoven within the manuscripts.

Why do you write?

My own Inner purpose is to share the knowledge of a bigger picture, that everyone has an inner wealth of abundance and potential that they can tap into and manifest into their reality. I seek to share that message by way of a ‘story’ a fun ride that carries you to a place of possibility … what if? What’s your favourite part of being a writer?

Being a writer can be a challenge, it can be tough to turn up on the page when you really don’t feel in the zone! Yet when it all starts to come together and you suddenly get the epiphany moment of how a character arc is going to pan out, or a plot sticking point comes together it feels great and I find myself typing with a massive grin on my face.

What is your writing process?

I’m sure academics would cringe if I was to admit that although I have a concept of the complete Dimensions story, I have never pre-planned an individual book plot. I don’t write in a linear fashion. I find that I write scenes, or bits of a story line of a particular character. It literally feels that I’m writing the dimensions multi-layered. The stories embody the concept of Dimensions in every which way, including how they are written!

Where is your favourite place?

I love wild places, green forests and hidden waterfalls. My exploits in wild swimming and hiking have led me to more than a few!

How would describe your writing style? How often do you write?

In general, my stories contain very quick scene changes, almost film-like, where you’re following different characters in different dimensions and time zones simultaneously. As the story progresses, these become more closely connected before eventually coming together in the climax. I enjoy interlinking events so that they overlap and affect one to build the feeling of dimensions interconnecting and interweaving with each other. In The Awakening, there are also sections that are journal-like too – these embody the reflections of the main protagonist, Kaia, as she evolves and discovers her destiny.

I write everyday.

To what extent are you similar to your characters?

That’s a fun question! I feel that all writers are their characters on a level! I have to admit I’m very similar to Kaia. I share her passion for nature and wild swimming and also her perception and sensitivity to energy. For the record, it’s not by chance that Kaia meets her soul love on the Isle of Skye either!

What is your favourite book? Recently or of all time.

My favourite story isn’t a book, at least it wasn’t. It is the Star Wars, the original trilogy – showing my age!

“Have fun, enjoy the story for what it is … and if you are drawn to look then look deeper and see how the story speaks to you on an inner level. ”
