BIOGRAFIE

Evelina Rosselli, Rome 1994. She graduated with honors in Philosophy in March 2017. The following year, she was admitted to the Accademia D’arte Drammatica Silvio d’Amico in Rome. She graduated in acting in March 2021. In the summer of 2019, she met Claudia Castellucci in Lisbon during the workshop on Wave Treatment. She also encountered and deepened her studies on the mask and the puppet. For three consecutive years, she performed at the Venice Biennale and participated in three productions at the Teatro di Roma, Teatro Nazionale. She studies and regularly practices music, particularly playing the alto and soprano saxophones, percussion, and piano. During her years at the Academy, she formed a working group, Gruppo UROR, with her Academy colleague Caterina Rossi. The UROR Group debuted with various productions, some of the most significant being at the Vascello Theatre in Rome, the Teatro di Roma, and the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza.
The UROR Group was born from the happy encounter between Evelina Rosselli and Caterina Rossi, which took place during their years at the Academy. Although the core of the group consists of two permanent members, it is an expandable working group: from time to time, depending on the specific performance path undertaken, it engages with different artistic personalities who bring alternative perspectives.
The origins of the UROR Group are rooted in philosophical and literary studies, as well as in music and craftsmanship (Evelina comes from music, and Caterina from craftsmanship), and it is projected towards the performative realm, searching for a language capable of becoming a physical witness to the mystery embedded within representation.
The research focuses on those aspects of reality that astonish and leave us speechless: human emotional archetypes, the mysteries contained in myth, which have a strong connection with the structures of violence in contemporary society, the forms of unconscious dream structures, and the hidden languages of the soul.
All of this is translated into work on the body, the mask, light, figure, sound, and matter. The UROR Group made its debut at the Vascello Theatre in Rome with Error Materia, then performed at the Short Theatre festival and at the Teatro Nazionale in Rome with Rosso. In 2023, it debuted at the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza with sdisOrè by Giovanni Testori, as part of the Cycle of Classics.
Caterina Rossi, Florence 1995.
After studying at the Faculty of Modern Literature at the University of Pisa, she graduated in theatrical acting from Laboratorio9 in Sesto Fiorentino. At the same time, she pursued studies in drawing and sculpture. From 2018 to 2021, she studied at the Accademia d’Arte Drammatica Silvio d’Amico in Rome, where she met Evelina Rosselli, with whom she founded Gruppo UROR. From the first productions, she began to focus on and explore the construction of masks and puppets, integrating new materials into the practice of scenography and costume design. Her study of materials moves in sync with the artistic and expressive research of the UROR Group, exploring mortality, veiling, and the mystery that follows.

In the labyrinth of Testori’s intricate language, sdisOrè re-founders and subverts the tragic narrative of the Oresteia. To convey the polysemy of the four characters in the play (Oreste, Egisto, Clitemnestra, Elettra), the chosen scenic device makes use of the tools of the Mask and the Puppet. However, these are unusual masks and puppets, made of thermoplastic, the color of which eerily resembles human skin.

ROSSO
2023, performance for puppet and actor, 40 minutes.

The story of Little Red Riding Hood cannot be removed from collective memory, but it can be reencoded. The work, distancing itself from the popular version of the fairy tale, reconfigures the narrative according to new themes.
ROSSO explores the organic/inorganic binomial, generated by the contrast between the living flesh of the human and the dead flesh of the puppet, which, however, surpasses the possible horizon of human action.

Error Materia: From the Latin “corruption in matter,” it is a reworking of the Pinocchio fairy tale, used as a pretext to address the critical moment when a child enters the world of work, the pre- established system. The dramaturgy is an original one and rein- terprets the work starting from the birth of the puppet up to the moment of its death, where the first draft ended, according to Collodi’s original in- tention.

Volume is an underground project, a work that investigates the five fundamental archetypal emotions through the instrument of the mask. Five performers, each alone in a specific and separate place, become guardians of the mystery contained in the mask, in an intimate contact with the spectator. The site-specific performance is designed for only one spectator at a time.
