What are some secret locales in the heart of the city for those who love style?

I wold recommend the Oltrarno. The San Frediano neighbourhood is filled with art and artisans, where an atmosphere of the past can very much be felt, from the artisan workshops that make picture frames to the workshop that crafts Byzantine mosaics. But I also love the Santa Croce neighbourhood.

Your passions outside the workplace?

My son, art and music.

Two restaurants you would recommend?

Gurdulù and Caffè Cibreo.

A good reason to return to Tuscany?

The aromas, the history, the colours of the countryside and the high quality of both our culinary and artisan products.

What is your motto?

Where there’s a will there’s a way, because at the beginning of my career, I would never have thought that I would get to where I am today.

lorence should be savored slowly, but if you have only three days to bite into it with gusto and enthusiasm, or only a few hours to take in the atmosphere and highlights, here is a mini-guide to Florence’s major museums, for each of which we have selected one or more must-see works of art. Six museums and their masterpieces (with the Firenze Card you get a 72hour access to the museums without having to wait in line…). So let’s take off on our journey through beauty.

UFFIZI GALLERY The Gallery is housed on the first and second floor of the large building designed by Giorgio Vasari and erected between 1560 and 1580. Giotto, Botticelli, Mantegna, Correggio, Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, Caravaggio are only some of the names that will pass before your eyes, until you will be facing two beautiful young girls representing the same woman: Simonetta Vespucci, who was known as La Sans Par (the unparalleled one) by the men of her time. Lorenzo the Magnificent, fell in love with her, as well as Sandro Botticelli, for whom Simonetta is said to have posed for the Birth of Venus and Primavera (in the Uffizi Gallery’s rooms 10 to 14 devoted to Botticelli). A quick tour of the museum must include The Diptych of the Dukes of Urbino, circa 1465-1472, by Piero della Francesca, and the Doni Tondo, showcased in a room which is a wonder of balance with striking red walls.

PALATINE GALLERY Every age has its star and during the years when the Palatine Gallery was being set up, the undisputed star was Raphael. The current arrangement of paintings reflects the original one and represents Italy’s most notable example of Baroque picture gallery, in which the paintings are displayed ac-

Imperdibile la Madonna della Seggiola di Raffaello, uno degli ultimi tondi di scuola cinquecentesca tipicamente toscana.

The statue is a wonder of lightness: Mercury is keeping his balance while soaring, defying the force of gravity.

The Bacchus, an early work by Michelangelo, gives an impression of both the god’s youthfulness and state of drunkenness. The David by Donatello is a small-sized statue, an icon of the early Florentine Renaissance, one of the first sculptures in the round since ancient Roman times.

The original elements of the Tower of Pisa, which were mostly made of San Giuliano marble, have been gradually replaced with white Carrara marble.

Currently, 175 columns out of 269 are made of white Carrara marble and 195 capitals out of 207 have been replaced

ABOUT US Toscana Aeroporti S.p.A is the company that manages the Florence and Pisa airports. Incorporated on June 1st, 2015 by merger of AdF – Aeroporto di Firenze S.p.A. (the company that managed the A. Vespucci Florence airport) and SAT - Società Aeroporto Toscano S.p.A. (the company that managed the G. Galilei Pisa airport). The merger of the two companies has been an essential step towards the creation of a unified Tuscan Airport System, in line with the National Airport Plan approved by the Italian Ministry of Transports. The synergies that will be created between the two airports and the complementary nature of the whole offer presented by the System will lead to an increase in the number of the destinations reached by the two airports and of the airlines available.

Toscana Aeroporti is planning to reach over 130 destinations worldwide, 45 airlines and 160 daily flights by 2029. The two airports will maintain their specific features in terms of air traffic: while the Vespucci airport will keep developing the business and leisure traffic through full service carriers, by connecting the main European hubs, the airport will prefer tourist traffic managed by low-cost carriers, cargo flights, and will also aim at developing intercontinental flights.

Tuscany will be able to rely on one of the most significant airport systems of the country, which will foster local economic development in one of the most globally renowned and beloved regions.

CHI SIAMO Toscana Aeroporti S.p.A è la società di gestione degli scali aeroportuali di Firenze e Pisa. Nasce il 1° giugno 2015 dalla fusione di AdF – Aeroporto di Firenze S.p.A. (società di gestione dello scalo A. Vespucci di Firenze) e SAT - Società Aeroporto Toscano S.p.A. (società di gestione dello scalo G. Galilei di Pisa).

La fusione tra le due società è il passaggio fondamentale per la realizzazione di un unico Sistema Aeroportuale Toscano, in linea con quanto previsto dal Piano Nazionale Aeroportuale approvato dal Ministero dei Trasporti Italiano. Grazie alle sinergie tra i due aeroporti sarà possibile incrementare il numero delle destinazioni raggiungibili dai due scali e delle compagnie aeree presenti. Toscana Aeroporti conta di raggiungere nel 2029 oltre 130 destinazioni nel mondo, 45 compagnie aeree e 160 frequenze giornaliere. I due scali manterranno la loro specificità: l’aeroporto Vespucci continuerà a sviluppare il traffico business e leisure attraverso i full service carrier, collegando i principali hub europei; l’aeroporto Galilei privilegerà il traffico turistico gestito da vettori low cost, i voli cargo e punterà anche allo sviluppo di voli intercontinentali.

La Toscana potrà così contare su uno dei sistemi aeroportuali più importanti del Paese, in grado di costituire un volano di sviluppo economico del territorio all’altezza di una delle regioni più note e amate al mondo.
