After a year spent hopping up and down airplanes between continents as if they were commuter trains, it looks like entrepreneurs, agents and customers will be “forced” to do the same in 2019. In odd-numbered years, the whirl of textile trade shows, from clothing to technical fabrics to upholstery and non-wovens, just gets more frenzied, with the Frankfurt shows, the North-American Techtextil event and ITMA in Barcelona in June adding to the already crammed trade show calendar. Therefore, we need to proceed step by step, or rather, date by date, though restricting our attention to the shows followed more or less directly by La Spola. At time of print release, at least three major shows have already taken place. The first one is Heimtextil, the traditional home textiles show organized by Messe Frankfurt at its headquarters. Carpets, curtains, towels, bedlinen and dozens of other items on display immediately after the Epiphany. Then comes The London Textile Fair, which this year takes on a special significance: in addition to being “sold out”, with exhibitors occupying every single corner of Islington’s Business Design Centre, the London show is some sort of test before the eagerly-awaited debut, the following week, of Texfusion New York. The American show, held in the same days as PV New York, is seen by some as the answer to Denim Première Vision held in London: an England-France match played by exhibitors, which has definitely livened up the trade show scene by adding a touch of zing to an already “hot” issue. January ends with another two events, both closely monitored by La Spola and held nearly at the same time: Colombiatex de Las Americas in Medellin and Pitti Filati in Florence. La Spola will attend both shows with its journalists to inform its readers about what goes on at events so far away from one another. Pitti Filati is in its 84th edition and offers its traditional selection of Italian yarn manufacturers, as well as the second fashion-show by the students of the Master Course in “Maglieria, Creative Knitwear Design” of Accademia Costume & Moda and Modateca Deanna. On show, the knitwear yarns of the S/S 2020 collections, with a special focus on sportswear, Far East and subcultures at the Research Space. And the Vintage Selection is back at the Cavaniglia Pavilion. The Spring-Summer 2020 colors and trends are the stars of Milano Unica, Dopo un 2018 caratterizzato da un giro del mondo praticamente perpetuo di imprenditori, agenti e clienti, ‘costretti’ a salire a scendere dagli aerei come se fossero auto da pendolari, anche il 2019 sembra avviato sulla stessa strada. La girandola di fiere del tessile, da quello per abbigliamento a quello tecnico passando per arredamento e tessuto non tessuto, negli anni dispari è infatti ancora più grande, visto che si aggiungono i saloni di Francoforte, l’edizione in nord America di Techtextil ed anche, a completare il programma, ITMA a Barcellona a giugno. Necessario quindi procedere per gradi, anzi per date, limitandoci peraltro alle fiere seguite, più o meno direttamente, da La Spola . Al momento di mandare in stampa questo numero di Showcase il calendario avrà già mandato in archivio almeno tre fiere. La prima è Heimtextil, tradizionale appuntamento con il tessile per la casa organizzato da Messe Frankfurt nel proprio quartier generale. Tappeti, tende, asciugamani, lenzuola, coperte e decine di altri articoli in mostra subito dopo il passaggio della Befana. Poi The London Textile Fair, che stavolta ha avuto un sapore speciale, visto che al tradizionale tutto esaurito, con le aziende disposte in ogni angolo possibile del Business Design Centre di Islington, si è aggiunta la curiosità e la trepidazione per il debutto, la settimana seguente, di Texfusion New York. Quella negli Usa, organizzata negli stessi giorni di PV New York, da qualcuno è stata vista come una risposta al Denim Première Vision organizzato a Londra: una sfida Inghilterra-Francia a colpi di espositori che ha di sicuro ravvivato il panorama fieristico aggiungendo anche un pizzico di pepe (leggasi polemica) alla questione. Gennaio si chiude con altri due eventi, entrambi seguiti da La Spola: praticamente in contemporanea vanno infatti in scena Colombiatex de Las Americas a Medellin e Pitti Filati a Firenze. In entrambi i casi La Spola sarà presente con i propri giornalisti per raccontare quello che accade a così tanti chilometri di distanza. Pitti Filati è giunta a quota 84 edizioni e offre la consueta vetrina alle filature italiane e ripropone, per la seconda volta, il fashion-show degli studenti del Master in “Maglieria, Creative Knitwear Design” di Accademia Costume & Moda e Modateca Deanna. In fiera saranno in mostra i filati per maglieria delle collezioni p-e 2020 con sport, far East e 36 fairs
