I COME INDIMENTICABILE Patrizio Cipollini and Mauro Governato, General Managers Four Seasons Hotel Firenze and Milano
“Milan is a city in constant evolution, and we work hard to show it at its best”
“The strength of a Four Seasons Hotel is in its highly personalized service” Un autunno esperienziale attende gli ospiti dei Four Seasons Hotel d’Italia.
An autumn rich in experiences is in store for the guests of Four Seasons Hotels Italy. Four Seasons Milan picked Villa Giuseppina on Lake Como, one of the world’s most romantic places, chose it as an extension of the hotel and location of enchanting events, whereas Four Seasons Firenze collaborates with a historic Italian company, Pirelli, through the Cycl-e AroundTM project, which combines the advanced technology of Pirelli tires and new-generation electric bicycles by using an app that allows you to book the bike and plan tours of the city and hills. During Milan’s Fashion Week, Seasonings Italia deals with the handbag, the number one essential in any woman’s wardrobe, and with men’s tailoring in Milan and Florence. These two destinations share a close bond with one of the greatest geniuses of all time: Leonardo da Vinci. On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of his death, we devote some pages of this issue to the places frequented and works created by the man who was far more than a mere artist. Furthermore, welcome to the new Chocolate Room, created by Pastry Chef Daniele Bonzi at Four Seasons Hotel Milano, and to the Cooking Classes of Four Seasons Hotel Firenze. Last but not least, we introduce you to the offerings on the menu of the two hotel restaurants and for the guests of Four Seasons’ Spas.

One of the most universally talented individuals of all time: painter and sculptor, artist and inventor, a dreamer and a visionary… in one word, a genius. Versatile like no one before him, Leonardo da Vinci gave a huge contribution to the development of both applied arts and science. While the whole world is getting ready to celebrate the 500th anniversary of his death, we go over the most important stages of his life and career between Florence and Milan. Let’s start from Anchiano, a town just two kilometers from Vinci, in the heart of the Valdarno area: there is the house where Leonardo is said to have been born. Located in the nearby medieval town of Vinci is the Leonardo da Vinci Museum, which showcases the models of the machines he invented. Leonardo, however, grew up in Florence: Ser Piero, Leonardo’s father, was a notary working at Palazzo del Podestà (the current Bargello Museum) and he most likely lived in a house on Borgo de’ Greci from 1469 on. In 1470, as Leonardo’s liking for the arts became increasingly visible, his father agreed to apprentice the boy to the workshop of Andrea del Verrocchio on Via dell’Agnolo.

The first work of art attributed to Leonardo dates back to 1473: Paesaggio con fiume, a drawing of the Arno valley, which is now kept at the Uffizi Gallery’s Department of Prints and Drawings. The Baptism of Christ, also kept at the Uffizi Gallery, a four-handed painting by Verrocchio and Leonardo, shows Leonardo’s exceptional talent from the earliest stages of his career. Leonardo established an artist-patron relationship with Lorenzo the Magnificent in the 1470s: some pages of Leonardo’s codices show studies for military and engineering projects and he is said to have frequented the Garden of San Marco in 1480. The Annunciation and The Adoration of the Magi were definitely painted in the early 1480s, the latter being left unfinished when Leonardo moved to Milan. The works are both kept at the Uffizi Gallery and are now showcased together with the painting by Verrocchio in Room 35 of the museum’s west wing. As soon as he came back to Florence for a short time in the early 1500s, Leonardo devoted all his energies to Palazzo Vecchio: he was commissioned with the painting of an episode of the battle between the Florentine and Milanese armies on

The Last Supper (1495-1498) is located in the former refectory of the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie opposta avrebbe dovuto lavorare Michelangelo Buonarroti.

Water, Nature’s Microscope exhibition. Leonardo trained in Florence, but he reached his full height as an artist in Milan: in 1482, Leonardo moved to Milan invited by Ludovico il Moro. He went back to Milan three times, over a period of twenty years: the first time in 1482 at the court of Ludovico il Moro, until the Duke’s fall in 1499; then again in 1506 summoned by Charles D’Ambois and from 1508 to 1513, under the patronage of Louis XII, King of France. Leonardo found the city of Milan to be very stimulating to his creativity as both an engineer and an artist. During his first stay in Milan, Leonardo painted the famous The Last Supper: located in the former refectory of the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, this work of art was completed between 1495 and 1498 by request of Ludovico il Moro. The Last Supper is a masterwork of Italian Renaissance art, in particular, because of Leonardo’s extraordinary use of perspective.

A place loved by Leonardo in Milan was his vineyard in the garden of the Casa degli Atellani sua vigna, situata all’interno della Casa degli Atellani e oggi aperta al pubblico.
Just opposite the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie is Leonardo’s Vineyard, located within the garden of the Casa degli Atellani and now open to the public. In Milan, Leonardo also designed a sluicegate system for the Navigli canals - of which the original doors and niche are still visible - and the so-called Sala delle Asse, a room on the first floor of the Sforzesco Castle where, in 1498, Leonardo decorated the ceiling and walls with a painting of intertwining plants and fruits, which gives visitors the impression of being outdoors beneath a pergola. The Codex Atlanticus is kept at the Ambrosiana Library. The Codex is a set of drawings and writings by Leonardo and the name refers to the size of the pages, as big as those used for atlases. The Leonardo da Vinci Science and Technology Museum, Italy’s largest science museum, showcases 130 historic models based on Leonardo’s sketches. Milan celebrates the 500th anniversary of Leonardo’s death by hosting a number of special events over a period of nine months (from May 2019 to January 2020). Celebrations begin on May 2, at the Sforzesco Castle, where the Sala delle Asse will be reopened to the public.

Summoned to Lombardy by Ludovico il Moro, the Duke of Milan, Leonardo da Vinci bequeathed to the city one of the greatest expressions of his genius: the extraordinary fresco of The Last Supper in the refectory of the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Four Seasons Hotel Milano offers its guests a special program of exclusive guided tours (of the work of art and of the whole Basilica), in addition to the chance of enjoying a formal dinner, catered by Four Seasons, in a room of the Convent. However the Convent’s refectory is not the only place where you can follow the tracks of Leonardo da Vinci from a unique perspective. A recently discovered ‘gem’ is the vineyard that Ludovico Sforza gave the Tuscan inventor in 1498. La Vigna, which is currently part of the garden of the Casa degli Atellani, was one of the artist’s most beloved possessions and, thanks to its proximity to Santa Maria delle Grazie, Leonardo’s favorite place to relax when he wasn’t working on The Last Supper. In such an enchanting location, the Hotel’s guests will be able to organize extraordinary events supervised by the attentive Four Seasons Team. “When we came upon Leonardo’s Vineyard, we could hardly believe it was real: such an intimate historical place in the middle of Milan, which takes you back in time to the golden age of the Renaissance-, Eleonora Giannini, Catering & Events Manager, says-. That’s why we decided to let our guests live unique experiences: a romantic dinner or a wedding reception in a stunning venue, which is a reminder of Leonardo’s inestimable legacy”.

We then move to Rubinacci, the celebrated Neapolitan shop. The tailor’s must-have is its blazer, an exclusive piece with the soft, silk linings that this icon of Italian custom-made apparel uses to create all its clothing. Coming to Monte Napoleone, we can’t miss a visit to the boutique Ermenegildo Zegna, where customization soars above the most common patterns, because in addition to the fabrics that have made this brand famous, clients can request a personalized fabric, choosing the motif, weight and weave. The elegance and comfort of TechmerinoTM is a must-try, making its return in the Zegna collection this season. Unique, unparalleled pieces burst forth from the magnificent showroom at Sciamat, an Apulian tailor who chose the Italian capital of fashion to open a space dedicated to elegance, where clients can find models, choose from fabrics by the most important companies and commission their own bespoke outfit, as well as peruse overcoats, jackets, pants and shirts, each bestowed with the brand’s

The historic Neapolitan workshop of E.Marinella has two stores also in Milan sciatore nel mondo della grande tradizione sartoriale di Napoli. Alongside custom-made pieces, the current collection - which includes priceless mixes of cashmere and silk, and jerseys made from a thousand different blends of materials - is inspired by its homeland, Campania, specifically Casalnuovo, the ‘Land of Tailors’. There are around 400 pieces, from sporty to the most formal, made every year at Sartoria A. Caraceni, in Via Fatebenefratelli, where thread and needle artisans and experts in good taste have handed down their know-how for four generations. They’re famous for their double-breasted garments, characterized by extreme versatility. Lastly, no gentleman would turn down a tie, especially a bespoke one, like those made in the historic Neapolitan workshop of E.Marinella, in Via Mazzoni and Via Santa Maria alla Porta.

In the 1960s, Mario Sciales, a master of needlework educated in Naples, moved to Florence to work in Michele Marinaro’s tailor shop, also in Via de’ Tornabuoni, becoming the owner in 1970. Still today, Sciales cuts all his pieces on a linen model, the fabric then adapted to it in order to attain the perfect wearability and lightness. His workshop is a beacon of craftsmanship, visited by an elegant international clientele. The history of Sartoria Vanni (Via dei Fossi) dates to the first half of the 1800s. Since then, manual production, attention to detail and a scrupulous selection of fabrics have remained the cornerstones of this workshop, which thanks to new online tools, now offers a service of a global visiting tailor, sent directly to the client. A short walk away is one of the most illustrious Florentine names in men’s tailoring: Liverano & Liverano. The self-assurance and speed with which the hands of Antonio Liverano move don’t hint at his 70 years of experience, instead clearly visible in the perfection of his pieces, their creation supported by a team of highly-qualified tailors.

Il Borgo Cashmere, which specializes in the production of elegant cashmere clothing and accessories 34

Just a few kilometers from Florence rises a lush green plateau best-known for the race track that every year hosts the Italian Motorcycle Grand Prix. This is the land which gave birth to Giotto and the Medici family. An ‘enclave’ nestled in nature, where a precious tradition of high craftsmanship developed over the centuries and several special companies were established, including Il Borgo Cashmere, which specializes in the production of elegant cashmere clothing and accessories. Seventy years of activity and exclusive collaboration with brands of the caliber of Hermès, Dior, Chanel, Salvatore Ferragamo and Stefano Ricci Junior, and four generations of the same family alternating at the helm of the company. Il Borgo Cashmere, which is currently run by Franco Fredducci, alongside his wife Serena and children Matteo and Elia, relies on a staff of 50 people, mostly women…. Incomparable masters of the ‘handmade’, of a precious know-how which needs to be preserved and protected. As a matter of fact, last year the company held a training course for young people inspired by the ‘humanistic’ spirit that has always been one of the company’s distinguishing features and aimed at promoting a production model based on the pursuit of beauty, environmental protection and respect for one’s origins. And which represents the special ‘touch’ of the cashmere items that are available at the recently-opened boutique in Florence, at 46/r Via Tosinghi, in addition to the shops at Four Seasons Hotels of London, Florence, Milan and Geneva. Franco, how did your family develop a tradition of knitwear manufacturing? In the fifties, in the second postwar period, thanks to a woman- hardly obvious at the time- my wife’s grandmother, Albertina Landi, who started a business in the field of knitwear and accessories manufacturing. When was the ‘Il Borgo Cashmere project’ started? In the late ‘80, when local manufacturing companies decided to delocalize abroad. Instead, we were determined to stay local and not to delocalize the production in other countries securing our specialized workers’ future. What makes Il Borgo Cashmere-branded items so unique? Our attention to details, in addition to the use of top-quality yarns and, of course, the greatest control over production. Among all the production stages, which is the most difficult to perform in order to provide the end consumer with a top-quality product? The most difficult thing is not a technical feature, but being able to convey the hard work, dedication and passion

Quanto è importante conservare il know how aziendale?

for an artisan tradition at risk of extinction in our field, which lie behind each and every one of our products. What are your major markets? America, France, England and the highly developing markets of Japan and Russia. What is the best compliment you’ve ever received from a customer? Rather than a compliment, I’m usually moved by the look of wonder and amazement on the face of the people who look at and touch one of our items. What does the word ‘craftsmanship’ mean to you? It means history, roots and pure passion. How important is it to preserve your corporate know how? What is the best way to protect such a precious value? In order to protect, we need to train. We need to hand our know-how down and not keep it locked up in a safe like a piece of jewelry. What values has this land instilled in you? Reliability, fairness. These are values which are handed down from one generation to the next and are an integral part of this corner of Tuscany. Last but not least, the willingness to show the world authentic “Made in Italy” products. For those unaware of it, Mugello is… A still little-known part of Tuscany and, therefore, a still authentic area, which is the reason why it is so unique, untouched and somehow alive.

TI PORTO VIA CON ME Cycl-e Around TM, le nuove frontiere Pirelli nel mondo delle e-bike Cycl-e Around TM, new frontiers by Pirelli in the world of e-bikes
Gino Bartelli was just 24 years old when he triumphed at the Tour de France in 1938, riding a Legnano bike, outfitted with Pirelli tires, becoming a champion of Italian cycling. But the fortuitous bond between the tires made by the historic Milanese company and this noble sport was forged much earlier, in the late 1800s, just 18 years after it was founded. Even in those initial days, its products stood out in the world of cycling for their quality and strong innovative character, just as they did in other industries. The histories of cycling and Pirelli ran the same course for decades, bringing in artists and designers - like Bruno Munari, Armando Testa and Riccardo Manzi, just to name a few - who marked a revolution in graphic design. With all this history under its belt, Pirelli has returned to the world of cycling with its characteristic pioneering spirit, offering not only a top-quality product, but also a new way to experience these two wheelers. Questi e altri luoghi mai visti prima, o almeno… mai visti prima così.

One of these itineraries is Silence and nature: the delightful hills of Fiesole, which brings guests to one of the most stunning sites just outside Florence, from where they can enjoy a magnificent view of the red roofs of the city, Brunelleschi’s dome, Giotto’s bell tower and the other architectural wonders of Florence. Guests will wind down streets lined with historic villas and a centuries-old convent, where the crisp air of the countryside can be breathed in abundance. After admiring the breath-taking panorama, guests can explore this small village rich in history, once an Etruscan city, then Roman, as the magnificent archeological area attests to, with its Roman amphitheatre, baths and temple, the result of the overlapping of these two important cultures. These and other never-before-seen places, or at least… never seen like this.

Andrea Rocchi, the fourth-generation member of a family of gardeners, passionately takes care of the Gherardesca Garden, Four Seasons Hotel Firenze’s monumental park
autumn interview firenze
The two-year works to restore the Garden of Palazzo della Gherardesca, which surrounds Florence’s Four Seasons Hotel and the former convent La Villa, to its original beauty, brought Andrea Rocchi to this lush green space in the heart of Italy’s cradle of the Renaissance. “The project for the restoration of the Garden was ready and we were ready to carry it out, according to the original nature of the plants decorating the two gardens: the romantic, English-style one surrounding the Palazzo and La Villa’s Italian-style garden”- Rocchi explains. He is the fourth-generation member of a family of gardeners and his grandfather Siro was in charge of the garden of Villa Demidoff in Pratolino. “The former features a criss-cross of paths and lawns to walk around on, whereas the latter has a more formal and geometric layout. They are both beautiful, each in their own way, and require a different approach.” The beauty of the Park lies also in the building up of different colors which distinguish it even in wintertime: “Owing to the new hybrids of pansies and to the meticulous job done by seven gardeners working here, the 25/30,000 flowered plants which decorate the garden are always in blossom. But in order to keep the garden alive and thriving, we have to take care of it every day, by cutting, trimming, watering, raking each plant according to its nature and pace…” Andrea Rocchi takes care of other gems in Tuscany, starting with the gardens of the Medicean villas of Castello, Petraia and Poggio a Caiano. The first garden houses Europe’s oldest and largest potted citrus orchard: “There are plants that have seen Cosimo I and are still alive, it is so exciting to take care of them. Equally exciting is the sight of the magnificent Fagus sylvatica ‘Pendula’, that is, the Gherardesca Garden’s weeping beech-tree, probably my favorite space within the garden.” Rocchi studied at Florence’s prestigious Agricultural College, but he completed his studies in England, France and The Netherlands, “gaining an in-depth knowledge of what gardeners over the centuries learnt from the Italians, first of all, Caterina de’ Medici”, he says, proudly smiling. And what should those who are lucky enough to stay at the Hotel do in the Garden? “A walk through the two gardens to admire the centuries-old plants, each having an identifying tag, and the works of art dotting the park, and then a climb up to the hillock from which they can enjoy a stunning view of the city. Once you are up there, it’s like walking on the Garden’s roof…” Or should we say ‘on the roof of the world’?

Eleonora Giannini, Four Seasons Hotel Milano’s current Catering & Events Manager, began working at the hotel in 1993, during its pre-opening phase. “I started off as an intern, training in all the departments and then working my way up in Event Management, as I was intrigued by the behind-the-scenes secrets”, she enthusiastically says. Event planning has greatly evolved over the years, the focus now is on uniqueness and it is very important to adapt to different and fast-changing needs in a city as increasingly competitive as Milan. “I have to admit that my passion for the marathon turned out to be very useful in my professional life, because I improved my perseverance and resilience by embracing adaptability- she says- and the one part of my job that I consider to be the most important is to get in sync with the customer and with his or her concerns and needs, thus, establishing a responsive and empathetic collaboration.” Eleonora Giannini and her team now work for stockbrokers, high finance professionals, fashion and luxury businessmen and women coming from all over the world. As Milan is the capital of Italy’s fashion industry, “ it is increasingly important to be able to plan extraordinary events, specially designed for an elite customer experience, such as the exclusive sit-down dinner for one thousand guests that we held on Via della Spiga during the World Exposition Milan 2015.” Even the Hotel’s wedding planning has grown into a very successful service. Wedding ceremonies and receptions are held not only at the Hotel, but also in stunning locations such as historical buildings downtown Milan or sumptuous villas on Lake Como. “When it comes to wedding planning, one of our greatest assets is Vincenzo Dascanio, who comes up with innovative ideas and projects every single time.” In addition to all this, the Hotel offers one of the best catering services in Milan, which takes care of organizing cocktail or dinner parties in the comfort of one’s own home, including customized open bar and menus based on local recipes, gourmet dishes or ethnic cuisine. It also supplies food for business meetings and corporate lunches with delicious gourmet dishes directly to the offices. “Creativity, flexibility and extreme care about details. These are the words that best describe us, the words that allows us to go on working with our most loyal customers, while building new and fruitful relationships”, the Manager says, clearly still very much in love with her job at the Hotel.

The theme of the famous Chocolate Room at the Four Seasons Hotel Milano by Pastry Chef Daniele Bonzi this years is a tribute to Milan’s famous reputation for Design 66

When it comes to chocolate, the distinction between grown-ups and children gets blurred. It is, in fact, no surprise that Four Seasons Hotel Milano’s most popular attraction is the Chocolate Room. Since its establishment in 2007, this entirely hand-decorated room has represented Disney’s Ratatouille, a chocolate factory and a tropical forest. This year, the Hotel’s Pastry Chef Daniele Bonzi has decided to pay a tribute to Design, by recreating a veritable contemporary art exhibition in the room. “In addition to fashion and style, Milan is known all over the world as Italy’s capital of contemporary art and design, and anyone can feel these artistic vibes by visiting the city’s museums, walking along the streets or seeing the International Furniture Fair. That is what inspired me in the creation of this multisensory experience”, explains Daniele Bonzi. “We used no less than one ton of Valrhona chocolate to create the new theme, combining geometric figures, pop and tape art elements and three-dimensional installations. Among these guests will enjoy a wall completely covered with the reproduction of a sound wave, a replica of the Needle, Thread and Knot sculpture by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen and interactive sections allowing them to pull sweets off the walls as if they were parts of the room and eat them.” This time, the Hotel offers its guests and local residents the chance to enjoy an imaginary world in which art and chocolate harmoniously blend. “Just like paints and the materials used in the various forms of art, chocolate is amazingly versatile and can be used in a variety of ways, thanks to its many colors and textures. So, it came very natural to deal with this new artistic creation, which allowed me to highlight my favorite ingredient as the star performer of the room, keeping its natural tones - from caramel to dark chocolate - completely unchanged.” The ‘wow effect’ is definitely guaranteed, even with the grown-ups, who will be able to visit the Chocolate Room with the whole family during the hotel’s traditional Sunday Brunch, and enjoy vertical tastings of different types of chocolate, desserts and elegant petite fours inspired by the room. After all, chocolate is always associated with sweetness and childhood, whatever shape it may assume.

STAGIONE DI MERAVIGLIE L’autunno di Vito Mollica nelle cucine de Il Palagio Autumn with Vito Mollica in the kitchen at Il Palagio
A unique, rich, intense season, full of deep and refined flavours, all waiting to be transformed and tasted, discovering their singularities: “Mushroom, truffle, game, chestnuts… shaken up by spot of fresh olive oil, bitter but full of energy”, explains starred chef Vito Mollica, with the sophisticated knowledge of someone who truly knows their field and the ingredients they create their masterpieces with. “I love that our guests notice the thought and passion that goes into preparing the dishes, following the rhythms of nature and the gifts it gives us every season”, a nature understood in all its complexity. White truffles, one of the chef’s favourites, will be an integral part of the recipes combining tradition and innovation, while chestnuts will be served not only roasted but also in the form of “our most delicious soufflé, prepared by Domenico Di Clemente”; alongside these are powerful reds coming from Tuscany, as well as Piedmont, Burgundy and Bordeaux - “because our wine cellar has its roots in this region and is open to the world,” continues Mollica, head of Food & Beverage at the hotel - perfectly paired with impeccably aged meats and game, the latter being an essential and primordial element of the autumn season.

There’s a place in Milan that’s particularly beloved by food and wine lovers, who know that in La Veranda’s kitchen they’re sure to find a safe space of flavours and aromas, refined dishes paired with a top-quality wine cellar and complemented by a naturally impeccable service. Alongside recipes that are long-considered classics at this restaurant overlooking the historical cloistered garden, for the arrival of autumn, the chefs have once again prepared new dishes that expertly blend tradition and innovation. Starting with the ultra-light shi drum carpaccio, samphire and anchovy and red onion mayonnaise, transformed into a delicate and balanced dish thanks to the anchovies and red onion, the menu continues with solina garganelli, duck confit, walnuts and smoked ricotta, recounting the region of Aburzzo through the sweetness of the duck ragout, enriched by the crunchiness of the walnuts and the dense softness of the smoked ricotta. The third signature dish is the quail stuffed with foie gras and apples, celeriac, chanterelles and dried leeks, where the fresh mushrooms and gentle foie gras blend perfectly and contrast with the unrefined grace of the celeriac and dried leeks…

DRINK ‘CON PERSONALITÀ’ Gabriele Fedeli racconta il libro sui cocktails signature dell’Atrium Bar per il nuovo anno Gabriele Fedeli introduces the book with the Atrium Bar’s signature cocktails for the new year
The Atrium Bar of Four Seasons Hotel Firenze? “A cozy and colorful space, filled with original glasses, unusual colors and enveloping aromas… a truly unique, inventive and fascinating place”, Gabriele Fedeli says. He has been working at the Hotel for ten years, he is a recognized expert in the Beverage field and the Hotel’s current F&B Outlets Manager. In the month of October, as every year, the Atrium Bar launches its new menu with the signature cocktails specially and (exclusively) created for Four Seasons Hotel’s customers. “This year, the Atrium Bar will have an actual bound book, titled La sfida (The Challenge), instead of the usual menu, and the cocktails will be dedicated to illustrious personalities in the most diverse fields, from sport to history, music and cinema - Fedeli explains- and there will be three drinks for each of the four groups. A challenge, obviously ideal, is the one we dedicated to Valentino Rossi and Ayrton Senna, but also to Maradona and Pelé, Pavarotti and Freddie Mercury. Each cocktail will be accompanied by a picture of the personality in question and by a detailed list of the cocktail’s ingredients. Customers can have a taste of the world in its many nuances and flavors.” A veritable challenge for barmen Edoardo Sandri and Simone Corsini, who gave free rein to their creativity and imagination, under the close supervision of Bar Manager Tommaso Ondeggia, as they had to find a connection between the drink they created and the challenged personalities. For all lovers of the classics, or rather, of the Atrium Bar’s classics, no worries: the Bar’s best-known cocktails are still there to be described, experienced and enjoyed, although they do not appear on the new menu.

VOLTI DI LUCE Foreo. Unique products for women who love themselves
In the lovely spaces of the Spa overlooking the lush green Gherardesca Garden, beauty treatments are personalized to address the requests and needs of each single guest and tailored to each skin type, by using unique and exclusive products and systems, including the three devices of the Foreo line. This highly professional beauty line is exclusively offered at Four Seasons Hotel Firenze’s wellness space, which comes as no surprise, for the Spa run by Lucia Papalini, the place where the pursuit of cosmetic excellence and skin care has been top priority for many years, is one of the hotel’s winning features. The three Foreo devices- each one used for a specific purpose- are: Luna, a professional facial cleansing brush, gentle and effective at the same time, ensuring a more luminous, refined and youthful look; Iris, a massager specially and exclusively designed for the eye contour, which revives and restores this very delicate and important facial area to its natural healthy look and, for those who will not be able to do without it anymore, is available for purchase at the Spa; and, last but not least, Ufo, a device as ultramundane as its name promises: a transcendent facial mask treatment which achieves in 90 seconds what a traditional mask usually does in 20 minutes ( even this extraordinary product is on sale at the hotel’s Spa). During their stay at the hotel, guests who are not interested in the Spa option can enjoy all the same a Foreo experience by using a personalized Luna 2 facial cleansing device directly in their room or by buying it at the Spa.

Walking into such a beautiful space as the Spa of Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, with its harmonious balance between architecture and nature, often makes guests and customers wish to restore the inner balance and regain the energy that daily tension and stress seem to have taken away. That is why, as Spa Director Lucia Papalini explains “here at the Spa we have decided to address the losing weight issue by offering programs and by using a number of different treatments which improve our guests’ physical appearance and ensure lasting results.” The Hotel Spa’s weight loss and toning up strategies are based, first of all, on the use of “the Body Slimmer technology, in particular treadmill and bicycle machines, which provide low-intensity aerobic exercise, by exploiting the infrared vacuum system, while ensuring a high calorie-burning rate. In addition to this new-generation machinery, we have recently introduced the Biokalko line treatments.” Biokalko includes a number of toning up and reshaping treatments for different body areas, “which fight against the most common forms of skin degeneration related to swelling, cellulite and lack of muscle tone.” The program includes either a single treatment, devoted to a specific body area, or a package of several treatments for different body areas, according to one’s needs. What is more, “an experienced nutritionist has been working with us for years to be able to provide a comprehensive wellness program.” In addition to its new and highly innovative weight loss programs, the Spa takes care of its guests’ wellness, health and relaxation by offering actual detox packages including a number of personalized treatments such as scrubs, mud-bath treatments, Biokalko treatments and use of Body Slimmer machines, in order to achieve long-lasting results.

Surrounded by an atmosphere of pure relaxation and immersed in the scents of the Mediterranean Sea, the autumn offer at the Four Seasons Hotel Milano is all about total regeneration of the body, with the new Mediterranean Aromatherapy Massage using Jojoba oil and shaped according to the characteristics and needs of the body. To maximize the therapeutic virtues of the massage, the Hotel’s talented therapists will add an essential oil wich echoes the fragrances of the Mediterranean Sea, to ensure a sense of absolute well-being during the treatment. There are three oils to choose from, starting with the sumptuous Neroli, which tradition says represents the two faces of love, since the sweet fragrance of the flower contrast the bitter taste of fruit. The name itself was inspired by the French duchess Marie Anne de La Trémoille, who married the Roman Flavio Orsini, Duke of Bracciano and Prince of Nerola. This elegant 17th-century noblewoman is credited with the custom of using the inebriating essence of bitter orange flowers. Sharper and crisper, intense and fresh, is the Amalfi Coast Lemon, which comes from an area that’s not only a UNESCO World Heritage, but is also a treasure chest of history and culture. The third essential oil is produced from Saffron, known around the world as the Milanese ingredient par excellence, gifted in eastern countries to wish someone a long and happy life, and in this case, perfect for invigorating the spirit. A unique massage which guests will remenber thanks to a personalized vial of oil that they will receive at the end of the stay at the spa on via Gesù.
