How did your passion for cuisine emerge?

Well, I think it is really in my blood. My parents opened “La Rosetta” in 1966. My father had a great a passion for cooking and he certainly had a special touch. In 1981, the restaurant passed to me and I have tried to bring in my experiences. I learned to cook by induction.

How has the restaurant changed over the years?

Next year will be the fiftieth anniversary for the restaurant. I represent the second generation so my way is a mix of tradition and innovation. With respect to the years when my parents ran it, I have certainly given the restaurant a more refined atmosphere. A more international touch to the kitchen, mingling the classical Mediterranean taste with more ethnic flavours, in the search for more variety and deeper flavour.

An example?

Gilthead bream with ginger What do you prefer to cook? Would you reveal a recipe for us?

I love to cook first courses. Lately, I enjoy a dish of “short sleeves” (a large diameter short pasta) with red shrimp, lime and breadcrumbs. The trick is to lightly brown the coarsely shredded crumbs in a wok-type pan with a bit of anchovy and garlic, and then add it to the shrimp sauce as if it was parmesan. It gives great texture to the dish.

Come è nata la passione per la cucina?

La cucina ce l’ho un po’ nel sangue. “La Rosetta” l’hanno aperta i miei genitori nel 1966; mio padre aveva molta passione per la cucina e sicuramente aveva un tocco speciale.

Nell’81, il ristorante è passato a me ed ho cercato di portare all’interno le mie esperienze. Ho imparato a cucinare per induzione.

Come è cambiato negli anni il ristorante?

Il prossimo anno, il ristorante compie cinquant’anni. Io sono la seconda generazione: quindi il mio è un mix di tradizione e innovazione. Rispetto a quando c’erano i miei genitori, ho dato al ristorante sicuramente un aspetto più raffinato. Un tocco più internazionale alla cucina, mescolando il classico gusto mediterraneo con sapori più etnici, ricercando sapori più vari e profondi.

Un esempio?

L’orata allo zenzero Cosa preferisci cucinare? Ci sveli una ricetta?

Amo cucinare i primi piatti. Ultimamente mi piace fare le mezze maniche con gamberi rossi, lime e mollica di pane. Il trucco è far rosolare in una pentola - tipo wok - la mollica di pane sminuzzata grossa con un po’ di acciuga e aglio; infine metterla nel sugo di gamberi come se fosse un parmigiano.

Dona al piatto un’ottima consistenza.

When did you start working for the Auditorium?

In 2002, I was fortunate enough to inaugurate the first hall of the Parco della Musica Auditorium, together with Mayor Veltroni, in office at that time. It was a turning point in my life. After having administered health care for years in the medical structures of my ex-husband, I needed to invent a new job for myself. My main characteristic has always been my capacity to establish and continue to maintain good interpersonal relations. Over time, this has been appreciated by those who have had faith in me and this has given me the opportunity to develop these capacities of mine in an ever widening circle.

What does the Parco della Musica Auditorium represent for Rome?

The Auditorium is truly a factory of musical culture for Rome and for Italy. Every year we propose internationally known artists and world class events.

What is your job inside the Auditorium?

I’m responsible for the team that handles leases for spaces to organise cultural events. Lately, we have done a lot to develop congresses and ad hoc projects for the organisation of international events at the Auditorium.

What’s your relationship with Rome?

I was born in Caracas. My mother is from Colombia, my father from Naples, but I have been living in Rome since I was 13. I’m crazy about Rome and I like the idea that I can contribute to making the excellence of Rome known through cultural activities.

Quando e come hai cominciato a lavorare per l’Auditorium?

Nel 2002 ho avuto la fortuna di inaugurare la prima sala dell’Auditorium Parco della Musica, insieme all’allora sindaco Veltroni. Era un periodo di svolta nella mia vita. Dopo essermi occupata per anni di sanità con le strutture sanitarie del mio ex marito, avevo bisogno di reinventarmi un lavoro. La mia caratteristica principale è sempre stata la capacità di relazionarmi e gestire i rapporti interpersonali; questo è stato nel tempo apprezzato da chi ha creduto in me, dandomi l’opportunità di sviluppare queste mie capacità, in maniera sempre più estesa.

Cosa rappresenta l’auditorium Parco della Musica per Roma?

L’Auditorium è una vera fabbrica di cultura musicale per Roma e l’Italia. Ogni anno ospitiamo artisti di fama internazionale ed eventi di portata mondiale.

Qual è il tuo lavoro all’interno dell’Auditorium?

Sono la responsabile del team che si occupa della locazione spazi per organizzare eventi culturali. Ultimamente, abbiamo sviluppato molto la parte dei congressi e lo studio di progetti “ad hoc” per l’organizzazione di eventi internazionali in Auditorium.

Che rapporto hai con Roma?

Sono nata a Caracas, da madre colombiana e padre napoletano ma vivo a Roma da quando ho 13 anni. Amo follemente questa città e, mi piace l’idea di far conoscere le eccellenze di Roma attraverso la cultura.

How did the project Massimo Alba Cashmere start?

With just one item, a special watercolor-dyed raglan pullover made using Alashan Cashmere from Mongolia.

Let’s ‘pretend’ we have our eyes closed. Could you tell me three elements that could help us recognize a hig quality cashmere?

Like for any other thing, time will tell about the quality. But generally we can say that cashmere doesn’t have to be too soft and it should have a sensory compact texture and a texured deep feel.

What are your style icons?

What impresses me most is elegance, but also good manners, politeness, when people look at the others without judging them and when they are at peace with theirselves.

Your greatest satisfaction, both from a professional and personal point of view?

Come è iniziato il progetto Massimo Alba Cashmere?

Con una sola maglia, un raglan speciale, fatto con il cashmere delle pianure di Alashan in Mongolia, tinto come un acquerello.

Chiudiamo gli occhi. Tre sensazioni per distinguere un cashmere di qualità.

Come in tutte le cose sarà il tempo a definirne la qualità. In generale il cashmere non deve avere una superficie troppo morbida, deve essere compatto, profondo.

Le sue icone di stile?

Quello che mi colpisce è la grazia, le buone maniere, l’educazione, l’impressione che sappiano guardare senza giudicare e che abbiano fatto pace con loro stessi La sua maggiore soddisfazione, professionale e personale?

Avere fondato un’azienda che porta il mio nome.

La sua Roma: luoghi e indirizzi ad alto contenuto di stile.

Di Roma mi piace il cielo azzurro quando c’è il sole, mi piace attraversare i ponti guardando il fiume. Mi piace il centro storico, Piazza Navona. Per questo ho deciso di aprire il mio negozio in Via dei Coronari.

How was this idea born?

The Bizantina Bag was born on a trip with my mother to the Bosporus. I’ve always had a passion for Turkey, I caught it from my mother as a baby. In fact, she gave me “Bizantina” as my second name. During that trip we were looking for fabrics to furnish our new house and we discovered an ikat of silk velvet, woven on traditional Bukhara looms. This became the basis of our bags.

Why make a bag?

It was almost a game. It was just going to be a bag for me, made of a remnant of the fabric my mother had chosen for a divan at home. I had an old “Roberta di Camerino” pochette that I was quite fond of, so I was inspired by that little bag and I made two with the Turkish cloth. When I came back to Rome, everyone wanted one and that’s how it started.

What’s special about these bags?

They are all unique pieces because these ikats are always different from one another and it’s impossible to reproduce them.

They are all sewn in Italy and each piece is numbered. The clasp closure is in the form of a tortoise and follows an antique Ottoman design.

How’s your relationship with your mother?

We complement each other. I am calmer and more reflective, she is more frenetic and impulsive. We probably complete each other.

Come è nata questa idea?

La Bizantina Bag è nata da un viaggio con mia madre nel Bosforo. Ho sempre avuto la passione per la Turchia; me l’ha trasmessa mia madre fin da bambina, tanto che come secondo nome mi ha chiamato “Bizantina”. Durante quel viaggio, cercavamo delle stoffe per arredare la nostra nuova casa e abbiamo scoperto un ikat in velluto di seta, tessuto con i tradizionali telai di Bukhara. Questo è diventato la base delle nostre borse.

Perché una borsa?

Quasi per gioco. Voleva essere solo una borsa per me, creata con un avanzo della stoffa che mia madre aveva scelto per un divano di casa. Avevo una vecchia pochette di “Roberta di Camerino” a cui ero molto affezionata; mi sono ispirata a quella borsetta e me ne sono fatta fare un paio con il tessuto turco. Quando sono tornata a Roma le volevano in tanti e così è iniziato tutto.

Qual è la particolarità di queste borse?

Sono borse uniche perché questi ikat sono sempre diversi tra loro ed è impossibile riprodurli. Sono tutte cucite in Italia e ogni pezzo è numerato. Il fermaglio della chiusura è a forma di tartaruga e realizzato secondo un antico disegno ottomano.

Che rapporto hai con tua madre?

Siamo complementari. Io sono più calma e riflessiva, lei è più frenetica e impulsiva. Probabilmente ci completiamo.

What training have you had?

I have a degree in Science of communications and I worked for eight years on cultural events between Rome and Turin.

I’ve always had a passion for jewellery. When I lived in Turin, I had a goldsmith make earrings that I had designed, but it was only when I came to Rome that I felt the need to create it all myself, by hand. I took a jewellery design course and that got me started.

Why earrings?

For me, an earring is a small extension of the body that embellishes and adds significance. I like to think that my earrings follow the natural lines of the ear, creating a framework, a strong and distinctive sign, a plate in the skin.

What inspired you?

RiVa earrings are based on accurate anatomical study, to ensure they are perfectly wearable. They are fine wires that emerge discretely and plates that make strong statements.

Where do you create your jewels?

At home, for now. I have my workbench in my bedroom. I do everything myself, from the piece to the package. Then I sell them in Trastevere in the “Verso Sud” shop.

Sono laureata in Scienze della comunicazione e ho lavorato per otto anni in eventi culturali tra Roma e Torino. La passione per i gioielli l’ho sempre avuta. Quando vivevo a Torino ho fatto realizzare da un orafo dei disegni di orecchini che avevo fatto e solo quando sono venuta a Roma ho sentito l’esigenza di creare tutto da sola, a mano. Ho fatto un corso di design di gioielli e, da lì, sono partita.

Perché gli orecchini?

Per me l’orecchino è una piccola estensione del corpo, che lo abbellisce, aggiungendone significato. Mi piace pensare che i miei orecchini si adeguino alle linee naturali dell’orecchio, creando un’armatura, un segno distintivo forte, una placca nella pelle.

A cosa ti sei ispirata?

Gli orecchini RiVa partono da un attento studio dell’anatomia per permettere una perfetta portabilità. Sono fili leggeri che emergono discretamente e placche che si impongono prepotentemente.

Dove crei i tuoi gioielli?

Per il momento a casa. Ho il mio banchetto da lavoro in camera da letto. Faccio tutto io, a mano, dal pezzo alla confezione. Poi li vendo a Trastevere nel negozio “Verso Sud”.

Quali materiali utilizzi?

Argento e ottone.

2015: an Extraordinary Jubilee. And for more than one reason. Extraordinary because it was announced 10 years earlier than the Church’s “ordinary” jubilee time, every 25 years. Special because Pope Francis is special: a revolutionary Pope. Only John Paul II had been able to achieve such universal popularity, cutting across age, religion, race and nationality, although he was far more diplomatic than his successor. Francis’s pontificate is the perfect embodiment of the official logo of this Jubilee, designed by Father Marco Rupnik: the image of Jesus having taken upon his shoulders Adam, to help him see and understand. It represents the two natures of Christ, divine and human, and serves as an invitation to follow his merciful example, as well as that of Pope Bergoglio, who has brought two worlds together and people closer to God like never before. 2015: un Giubileo Straordinario. Per più di una ragione. Straordinario perché indetto 10 anni prima della scadenza prestabilita del 2025. Speciale perché Francesco è speciale: un Papa rivoluzionario che piace alla gente. Solo Giovanni Paolo II aveva unito così tanto i fedeli di tutto il mondo, ma era sicuramente più diplomatico. Il pontificato di Francesco è invece la trasposizione perfetta del simbolo di questo Giubileo, disegnato da Padre Marco Rupnik: Gesù carica sulle spalle Adamo per permettergli di vedere e comprendere. Umano e divino insieme, summa teologica del tema della Misericordia, ma anche del cammino di Papa Bergoglio che come mai prima di ora è riuscito a unire due mondi e avvicinare la gente a Dio. Straordinario ancora: per quell’abbraccio di due Papi davanti alla Porta Sacra, mai visto prima di oggi. Ratzinger, colto, sofisticato, quasi elitario; e Francesco, popolare e quotidiano nei gesti e nelle parole. Opposti uniti in un abbraccio potente che ha sconfitto la paura e il momento storico. Preparato in soli 7 mesi, il Giubileo 2015 è un eccezionale macchina organizzativa gestita dal solo Dicastero della Nuova Evangelizzazione guidato da Monsignor Rino Fisichella. “You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” These prophetic words of Jesus to the fisherman Simon came true in Rome, on the Vatican Hill, during Nero’s persecution. Here on the Vatican Hill, Peter died crucified like his Master, and in his burial place the papal altar stands today.

On entering, you will be impressed by the size and magnificence of the basilica: the marble floor covers an area of ​​over two hectares; the nave is 186 meters long; Bernini’s Baldecchino or canopy is thirty meters high; the Cupola or Dome is 133 meters. It was only consecrated on November 18, 1626, under Pope Urban VIII, when the construction work was completed, after renovations and modifications had been carried out for over a century. The Piazza gained its present appearance only in 1667.

Our visit can only start on Via della Conciliazione, where the Basilica appears at the bottom of the Piazza in all its grandeur. The positioning of Saint Peter’s Square remains one of the most spectacular architectural achievements of Baroque Rome. It was designed between 1656 and 1667 by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. He divided it into two parts: the oval space between the two semicircles of four rows of columns, and the trapezoidal expanse that reaches the extremes of the facade. The Piazza thus acquired some breathing space while the façade proved more balanced and almost shrunken.

The centre is indicated by the red granite obelisk, brought to Rome in 40 AD by Emperor Caligula.

The atrium is 71 meters long, 12.80 meters wide and 19 meters high. Above the main entrance is the famous mosaic of the Navicella or ship, a reworking of an original attributed to Giotto. At the five entry gates to the atrium are five corresponding bronze doors for access to the basilica, which in 1947 replaced the previous ones in walnut.

And here we are in the basilica. It was built over the remains of the Constantinian “Tu sei Pietro e su questa pietra io edificherò la mia Chiesa e le porte degli inferi non prevarranno contro di essa”. Le parole profetiche di Gesù rivolte al pescatore Simone si sono avverate a Roma, sul colle Vaticano, durante la persecuzione di Nerone. Qui, sul colle Vaticano, Pietro morì crocifisso come il suo Maestro, e sul luogo della sua sepoltura oggi sorge l’altare papale. Entrando si rimane impressionati dalle dimensioni e dalla magnificenza della basilica: il pavimento di marmo copre una superficie di oltre due ettari; la navata centrale è lunga 186 metri; il baldacchino del Bernini è alto trenta metri; la cupola 133 metri. Fu consacrata solo il 18 novembre 1626, sotto il pontificato di Urbano VIII, quando terminarono i lavori di costruzione, dopo rifacimenti e ripensamenti che si sono succeduti per oltre un secolo. La piazza ebbe il suo aspetto attuale solo nel 1667.

La nostra visita non può che iniziare dalla via della Conciliazione, quando la Basilica appare al fondo della piazza con tutta la sua grandiosità. La sistemazione di piazza San Pietro rimane tra le più scenografiche realizzazioni architettoniche della Roma barocca. La realizzò fra il 1656 e il 1667 Gian Lorenzo Bernini articolandola in due parti: lo spazio ovale compreso tra i due emicicli di quadruplici file di colonne, e la distesa di forma trapezoidale che raggiunge gli estremi della facciata. La piazza acquistò così maggiore respiro mentre la facciata risultò più equilibrata e quasi rimpicciolita. Il centro è indicato dall’obelisco di granito rosso, portato a Roma nel 40 d.C. dall’imperatore Caligola.

L’atrio è lungo 71 metri, largo 12.80 ed alto 19. Sopra l›entrata principale c’è il celebre mosaico con la Navicella della Chiesa, rimaneggiamento dell’originale di Giotto. Ai cinque cancelli di entrata nell’atrio corrispondono cinque porte in bronzo per l›accesso alla basilica, che nel 1947 sostituirono quelle precedenti in legno di noce.

church with the participation of the most famous architects. In 1505, Pope Julius II, in a fully Renaissance cultural climate which involved the Church, decided to build a new colossal basilica. He chose the architect Donato Bramante, who wanted to superimpose the Pantheon on the Basilica of Maxentius; in other words, merge the Basilica of Maxentius’ “Etruscan” construction with the round form of the Pantheon. Mi dedicherò come sempre, con il massimo impegno e grande determinazione al mio compito con la speranza di poter portare la danza all’Opera di Roma, in tempi non lunghi, al successo che merita.

I love being very wicked. Thanks to the role of “Lucrezia” in the Elisa di Rivombrosa serial, I discovered that I’m very convincing in this type of part. I love to be able to do and say terrible things. Probably, that’s because I am too generous in life. When I see my face as a wicked character on the screen, I’m scared of myself. The only person who never believes in my wickedness is my son.

What are your passions?

I adore cooking and I’m good at it too. I love to have people in my home.

Your best dish?

Cream of leeks, but I must say that lately I’ve perfected a chicken with wine that is quite the thing.

What you love most about yourself and what you hate the most?

My greatest merit is my positive character. I always try to find a reason to smile on every occasion. The thing I hate the most is that I let everyone walk all over me. But now, I’m working on that.

Quando hai iniziato a fare l’attrice?

Respiro il cinema fin da bambina. Mio padre era direttore di doppiaggio in Italia di film quindi ho subito iniziato a doppiare i film già da piccolina. Da ragazzina ho fatto anche la modella e ora mi concentro su quello che mi piace di più: cinema, tv, teatro, presentare.

Cosa ami di più del mondo della recitazione?

Mi piace proprio stare sul set. Amo l’idea di essere per un periodo un altro personaggio e dover essere fuori dalla propria casa. Amo stare con la valigia in mano. Probabilmente sono un po’ nomade dentro.

Quale è il ruolo che più di piace personificare?

Adoro essere cattivissima. Grazie al ruolo di “Lucrezia” nella fiction Elisa di Rivombrosa, ho scoperto che questa parte mi viene proprio bene. Amo poter fare e dire cose cattive. Probabilmente perché nella vita sono troppo buona. Quando vedo la mia faccia da cattiva nello schermo mi faccio paura da sola. L’unico che non crede proprio mai alla mia cattiveria è mio figlio.

Quali sono le tue passioni?

Adoro cucinare e mi riesce anche molto bene. Amo avere gente a casa.

Il tuo piatto forte?

La crema di porri, ma devo dire che ultimamente ho messo a punto un pollo al vino che non è niente male.

Il lato che più ami di te e ciò che più odi?

Il mio maggior pregio è il mio carattere positivo. Cerco sempre di trovare il motivo per sorridere in qualsiasi occasione. Credo che se sorridi il corpo pensa che devi stare bene. La cosa che più odio è che mi faccio calpestare da tutti. Ma ora su questo, ci sto lavorando.

Buona, alta ed empatica.

Entering the shop of Beppino Rampin is already an experience. A small treasure chest that will immediatly reveal you the story of this master artisan who has been creating costumized shoes for 70 years.

You just need to hear him talk with his typical accent from Padua, which somewhat sounds like a Spanish accent, an accent he has never lost, to see how much knowledge and great passion he possesses and how his work is more a vocation than a work.

When he was a child, Beppino learned the secrets of this art from his father, in Padua, where he was born and raised, in the shop owned by his family where he had a close c ontact with shoes. After having visited Rome during his honeymoon, the love he discovered to feel for this city made him decide to move there, where he worked for a period in the best Roman shops. Then he opened his own shop, where he has been making shoes for almost 50 years like few others can.

He is 80 years old, but his skills are still sharp, and the same is true for his spirit and brains as well. Thanks to the unique experience he has as a shoemaker, he immediately can guess the right size of shoes every customer has. Like Beppino loves to say, his shop has been visited by ‘half of the world’s population”, and you just have to look at the enormous quantity of solid forms inside the warehouse to understand that he is actually telling the truth. Wooden molds of all sizes and shapes possible, the ones used to make women’s shoes in a separate place from those used to make men’s shoes, each one with its imperfections and peculiarities, around which the shoe is skillfully and perfectly molded to the customer’s feet. Every foot is a world of its own, with a story, a life of its own. The same is true for the way people walk. Beppino knows this very well, and every time he meets new customers, the first thing he does is to look at the way they walk. Just the way they walk out the shop tells him about their posture and the way they place their feet during a walk, things of a crucial importance to create high quality custom-fit shoes, since, and here we quote Beppino once more, ‘shoes are a delicate issue, not just because of the risk of making them not enough beautiful, but also because of the risk of making them not enough comfortable’.

Entrare nella bottega di Rampin e già un’esperienza di per se. Un piccolo scrigno dove appena entrati si respira la storia di questo maestro artigiano che da 70 anni crea calzature su misura. Basta sentirlo parlare, con la sua inflessione quasi spagnola tipica dell’accento padovano che mai ha perso, per capire la competenza e la grande passione che ha nei confronti del proprio mestiere, che più che un lavoro è una vera vocazione.

Da bambino Beppino ha rapito i segreti di quest’arte dal padre, a Padova, dove è nato e cresciuto nella bottega di famiglia, circondato da scarpe. Trasferitosi a Roma dopo essersi innamorato della capitale durante il suo viaggio di nozze, per un periodo ha lavorato nelle migliori botteghe romane, per poi aprire la propria, dove ormai da quasi 50 anni realizza calzature come ben pochi sanno fare.

Le sue abile mani non tradiscono minimamente i suoi 80 anni, così come il suo spirito e il suo acume. Un’esperienza unica la sua, che con un solo colpo d’occhio gli permette di capire il numero di scarpa esatto di ogni cliente.

Come ama dire Beppino, nella sua bottega “c’è passato mezzo mondo” e basta dare uno sguardo all’infinità di forme che ha in magazzino per capire che non sta affatto esagerando. Forme in legno di tutte le misure e di tutte le fattezze, da una parte quelle da donna, dall’altra quelle da uomo, ognuna con le sue imperfezioni e le sue peculiarità, sapientemente modellate fino a ottenere l’esatta silhouette del piede del cliente.

Ogni piede è un universo a sé e racconta una storia, una vita. Così come il modo di camminare. Beppino lo sa bene e ogni volta che incontra un nuovo cliente, come prima cosa osserva il suo modo di camminare. Gli basta guardarlo mentre esce dal negozio per capire la postura e il modo di poggiare il piede, informazioni fondamentali per creare una buona scarpa su misura, perché, per citare nuovamente lo stesso Beppino, “le scarpe sono una questione delicata, non c’è solo il rischio di non farle belle, possono anche fare male”.

They take care of the feet of noble people, politician and celebities, like Sabrina Ferilli, Stefano Accorsi and even the brothero of the King of Saudi Arabia, who invited him to Cannes to make him a costumized pair of shoes. Today, he still uses many instruments his father made use of, and only the best materials, offering a wide choice of leathers: calf leather of course -above all from calves breeded in Germany and France- but also leathers from exotic animals like alligators or ostriches. It may take him even 18 hours to make the sole, and even 25 hours to make the entire item, but the result is really amazing. His shoes are classic and never insignificant, with a clean profile, a barely imperceptible or completely invisible stitching line, resulting from extremely difficult manufacturing processes that only a few others can deal with. But the characteristic that most distinguishes these items not only from industrial products, but also from other handcrafted shoes, is lightness. This is something Beppino has learned from his father by looking at the way he used to make women’s shoes, and he then managed to give also men’s shoes this characteristic. Questa però in realtà è una delle rare eccezioni, Beppino solitamente lo trovate nella sua bottega in via Quintino Sella, dove accoglie tutti i suoi clienti, molti dei quali si rivolgono a lui da anni, con un unico scopo: quello di vederli uscire soddisfatti, con una creazione di impeccabile fattura. Perché se c’è una cosa a cui Beppino tiene, è quella d’instaurare un rapporto umano con il proprio cliente, ed è normale trovare in negozio i suoi clienti che si fermano spesso e volentieri anche solo per fare due chiacchere.

Per le sue creazioni utilizza ancora oggi molti strumenti di suo padre e come materiali solo le pelli migliori, di cui ha una vastissima scelta. Naturalmente la pelle di vitello, con una predilezione per i vitelli allevati in Germania e in Francia, ma anche pelli esotiche, come quella di coccodrillo e di struzzo.

Per realizzare solo la base possono occorrere fino a 18 ore, per ottenere le scarpe finite anche 25 ore, e il risultato è stupefacente.

I suoi sono modelli classici, ma mai banali, caratterizzati da una linea pulita, con cuciture quasi impercettibili o completamente assenti, una lavorazione di estrema difficoltà, che pochissimi sanno padroneggiare. Ma ciò che più li contraddistingue, non solo dai modelli industriali, ma anche dalle altre scarpe artigianali, è la leggerezza. Una qualità di cui Beppino Rampin ha imparato tutti i segreti dal padre quando faceva scarpe da donna e che ha saputo trasmettere anche nei modelli da uomo.

The dominating feature of the piazza is the monumental stairway, composed of 135 steps, inaugurated by Pope Benedict XIII for the Jubilee of 1725. During the Christmas season, the stairway is decorated with an enormous tree full of lights and a life-size Nativity scene. Babington’s, an English tearoom in the piazza, is well worth a stop to enjoy a fine cup of tea chosen from the extensive collection of available varieties, accompanied by their wonderful home-made sweets. The Barcaccia fountain created in 1627

by Pietro and Gian Lorenzo Bernini, commissioned by Pope Urban VIII, marks the foot of the stairway. It seems that the sculpture was inspired by a boat left stranded in that place in 1598 when the Tiber overflowed its banks during a flood. The Column of the Immaculate Conception, designed by architect Luigi Poletti and inaugurated in 1857, is nearby. The marble column is 12 metres high and sustains a bronze statue of the Madonna made by Giuseppe Obici.

Every year on the 8th of December, Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the Pope comes to the piazza to bless the statue and the public and, with the assistance of a firefighters’ crane, places a garland of flowers around the Virgin’s neck. The most elegant street of Rome, Via Condotti, lined with the most prestigious shops of the capital, faces the piazza. Here, Caffè Greco is the pre-eminent place to meet and be seen, where coffee commands in an historical setting.The Trident area, which takes its name from the three streets that shoot out from Piazza del Popolo toward the south (Via del Babuino, Via del Corso and Via di Ripetta), evoking the form of a trident, is well-supplied with shops and shopping opportunities. There are many places for a quick lunch but some are worth a mention for their peculiar characteristics. Ginger on Via Borgognona is a new place with a young and refreshing atmosphere where you can have a soup or a sandwich while you relax and enjoy. Pastificio Guerra in Via della Croce is a place to buy home-made pasta, but from 1 to 2 pm it becomes a kitchen laboratory where you can taste delicious dishes

La piazza, che deve il suo nome all’Ambasciata Spagnola presso la Santa Sede, rappresenta il punto di partenza centrale dell’area commerciale più importante di Roma. L’attrattiva principale della piazza è la scalinata monumentale, composta da 135 gradini e inaugurata da papa Benedetto XIII in occasione del Giubileo del 1725: nel periodo natalizio viene addobbata con un grandissimo albero, ricco di luci e un bel presepe a dimensioni reali. Nella piazza, merita una sosta Babington’s, una tea room ingese dove è bello concedersi una tazza di tè, scegliendo tra le tantissime diverse varietà della collezione e i meravigliosi dolci fatti in casa. Ai piedi della scalinata, c’è la fontana della Barcaccia realizzata nel 1627 da Pietro e Gian Lorenzo Bernini, per volere di Papa Urbano VIII. L’opera sembra essere stata ispirata da una barca che nel 1598 si arenò lì in seguito allo straripamento del Tevere. Poco oltre, troviamo la Colonna dell’Immacolata Concezione su progetto di Luigi Poletti e inaugurata nel 1857. La colonna, in marmo, è alta 12 metri e sostiene la statua in bronzo della Madonna, opera di Giuseppe Obici. Ogni anno l’8 dicembre, in occasione dell’Immacolata Concezione, il Pontefice arriva in piazza e benedice la statua e tutti i presenti, ponendo con l’aiuto di una gru dei Vigili del fuoco, una ghirlanda di fiori al collo della Madonna.

Davanti alla piazza la via più elegante di Roma è via Condotti con i negozi più prestigiosi della capitale. Qui il Caffè Greco è il bar per eccellenza, dove il caffè è il padrone di casa di un locale storico con arredi classici e quadri antichi. La zona del Tridente, così chiamata l’area delle tre vie rettilinee (via del Babuino, via del Corso e via di Ripetta) che partono da piazza del Popolo in direzione sud, assumendo la forma di un tridente, è così ricca di negozi e possibilità di fare shopping. Punti veloci per una sosta lunch sono tantissimi ma alcuni meritano una nota per una qualche peculiarità. Rome has a number of villas endowed with the inevitable green parks and grounds, the result of the Roman nobility’s desire to excel. These were luxurious country villas, part of a trend that began in the Renaissance and ended in 1870, when the city lost its curial halo and became the capital of Italy. At the time of papal Rome, the Roman nobility had to have a city mansion, an estate and a suburban villa. Some of these villas outside the walls have survived intact against the inexorable passage of time, while others have been devoured by the construction fever that marked the period that followed.

Torlonia villa is one of the most prestigious of these villas, thanks not only to the grandeur of the whole property, but also because of its history of fascinating and bizarre inspirations in its attempts to follow architectural fashions and the taste for creating surprise. The great construction by Valadier stands at the centre of a large historic park, two kilometers from Via Veneto, in the Nomentano district.

Between 1600 and 1750 it was a working farm estate, just outside the walls of the Eternal City, belonging to the powerful Pamphili family. It then became the “vineyard” of the Colonna family, and in 1797 was bought by Prince and banker Giovanni Raimondo Torlonia for his son Alessandro Raffaele. Princely status deemed it necessary to purchase residences reflecting the status of the family lineage to gain public visibility and power. It was this land that was to become the suburban Torlonia villa: a succession of three generations made their changes to it. In 1806, on a design by Giuseppe Valadier, the fashionable architect at the time, construction of the villa began. It became a majestic monument, adorned with classical art sculptures. The Casino Nobile was restored in the neoclassical style, and became the family’s main residence. In front of this, in 1842, son Alessandro erected two obelisks in memory of his parents. Villa Torlonia è una delle più prestigiose, grazie non solo alla grandiosità dell’insieme, ma anche perché sua storia si arricchisce di spunti affascinanti e bizzarri per il suo andar dietro alle mode architettoniche e al gusto del sorprendere. La grande costruzione del Valadier svetta al centro di un grande parco storico, a due chilometri da Via Veneto, nel quartiere Nomentano.

This contemporary dance is inspired by the Fendi ID-ea concept, the new symbol of the Roman fashion house represented by a light bulb, synonymous with Fendi’s bolder creativity and expressed in the very refined capsule collection designed for a younger public. The tree, positioned on a gold platform, has a gigantic light bulb at the top, as if to emphasize its dual message: one of luxury, yes, but also current and modern, willing to intercept even more contemporary stimuli. The historic wine bar was established in Rome in the early 1900s as Castelli Romani shops for wine, oil and vinegar, sold exclusively in bulk.
