LET’S DISCOVER FLORENCE WITH ANDRES CIGNARELLA

As a Chiavi d’Oro Concierge at Grand Hotel Da Vinci (Cesenatico), here are a few tips to those visiting the city to help them get the most out of their stay

Born in Caracas to a family originally from Sant’Andrea di Conza, a small village in the province of Avellino, Andres Cignarella carries with him an Italian identity rooted in his Irpinian heritage. Afer spending his childhood and early years in Venezuela, he returned to Italy with his family, where he completed his education and began his career in the hospitality industry. His entry into the world of the hotel industry took place in high-end establishments, where he held various roles that allowed him to develop a comprehensive understanding of service and hospita-

lity. This path led him to the role of Concierge, recognizable by the iconic crossed keys on the lapel of his jacket. Today he is a member of Les Clefs d’Or Italy, Tuscany chapter - that also includes Umbria and Emilia-Romagna - and serves at the five-star Grand Hotel Da Vinci in Cesenatico. He has gained international experience, as well as numerous destinations in Switzerland and Italy, from Venice to Portofino, and on to Fiesole, where he worked with the Belmond group. His connection to Florence remains a cornerstone of his career and serves as a constant source of inspiration.

ADMIRE THE MOSAICS OF THE BAPTISTERY

One of Florence’s most iconic landmarks is the Baptistery of San Giovanni, with its octagonal layout and the extraordinary golden mosaics on the dome. To round out your visit, it’s worth stopping by the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo as well.

HEAD TO FIESOLE FOR A UNIQUE VIEW

From here, you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the city. It’s the perfect spot for a stroll through nature and history while taking in the scenery.

FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF BEATO ANGELICO

Art lovers can immerse themselves in the spirituality and light of Beato Angelico’s works by visiting the Museum of San Marco and exploring the sites connected to his life in Fiesole.

Inside the Basilica of Santa Croce, you’ll find must-see masterpieces such as the frescoes in the Bardi Chapel, created by Gioto and dedicated to the stories of St. Francis.

SAVOR TUSCAN TRADITION

Florence is also about taste: from traditional dishes to great Tuscan wines, the culinary experience is a fundamental part of the journey. Between historic tratorias and wine-growing hills, every meal becomes a moment to remember.

TUNA PIZZA

Akira Back’s iconic dish arrives in town

Among the signature dishes of the Akira Back Florence restaurant at the W Florence, the Tuna Pizza perfectly embodies chef Akira Back’s vision: to surprise, blend cultures, and transform the unexpected into something irresistible. At first glance, it seems provocative - a pizza in a Japanese restaurant - but the first bite is a revelation. The crust is paper-thin and crispy, almost like a golden tortilla, topped with an intense, enveloping umami aioli sauce, enriched with citrusy notes of ponzu. On top, silky-smooth and delicate tuna sashimi meets the aromatic freshness of micro shiso, while

a few drops of white truffle oil finish the dish with an elegant, lingering aroma. It is a perfect balance of textures and flavors. A true manifesto of Back’s cuisine, where umami - that pleasant savory flavor typical of Japanese tradition - takes center stage. Its history is fascinating: it began as a creative evolution of the Spicy Tuna

Roll, moved on to Crispy Rice, and arrived at this contemporary form almost by chance, when the chef, ever the improviser, whipped up a meal using whatever ingredients were on hand, wrapping them in a tortilla. The result is iconic.

SECRET FLORENCE

Geting Lost Among Street Names, Anecdotes, and Hidden Stories

TEXT Teresa Favi PHOTO Lorenzo Cotrozzi

In Florence, street names are never random: they are miniature tales, traces of vanished trades, fierce rivalries, and popular wit. Wandering aimlessly through these alleys means entering a more authentic city, where every sign is a fragment of history. The advice is simple: put the map aside every now and then. The strangest streets are also the ones you’d be least likely to seek out… but the ones that leave the deepest impression.

Step away from the constant flow of Piazza della Signoria and slip into the Chiasso dei Baroncelli: just a few steps are enough to hear the city’s noise fade away.

This narrow, evocative passageway, linked to one of the most powerful families of medieval Florence, was

also a refuge for soldiers: the 200 feared Landsknechts whom Cosimo I de’ Medici had chosen as his personal guards and who were stationed here. An alley that seems quiet today,

REVEALS A

HIDDEN

CITY OF STREET NAMES, STORIES, AND SECRETS BEYOND THE POSTCARD VIEWS

but was once anything but peaceful.

Not far away, Via dell’Amorino changes the mood: amid intrigue and passion, the name evokes romantic tales and an atmosphere that also inspired Niccolò

Machiavelli. Here, Florence plays with the seduction of words and history, blending them seamlessly.

If you haven’t ‘lost your way’ yet, try Via delle Serve Smarrite, a small alley connecting Via Vinegia to Borgo dei Greci, just a stone’s throw from Piazza della Signoria and Santa Croce. The name is no coincidence: women from the countryside used to come here in search of work as maids and ofen got lost, swallowed up by the city. It is one of those places where Florence shows its more human, less celebrated side.

But Florence also loves the taste of history told through images. Not far away, the Chiasso del Buco owes its name to an underground tavern where patrons literally descended into a “hole” to drink. Not just any place: it is said that

BEST DISCOVERED BY WANDERING

between one glass and the next, Lorenzo de’ Medici, Michelangelo Buonarroti, and Leonardo da Vinci would meet here. Here, grand history blends with everyday life, unfiltered. Then comes the city’s more turbulent side. The Vicolo dello Scandalo (or del Panico) tells of fierce feuds between the Cerchi and the Donati: neighbors, sworn enemies. To separate them, a narrow passage was created, almost a desperate urban planning gesture to contain the hatred. A few steps away, Dante Alighieri’s house reminds us how deeply these ten-

sions have also shaped the city’s literature and imagination.

Via Torta, on the other hand, owes its name to its shape: it is a curved, ‘crooked’ street that traces an arc between the buildings. The term has nothing to do with sweets or pastry shops, but with something twisted, non-linear. And that’s not all: its path likely follows the layout of Florence’s ancient Roman amphitheater. Walking along it, without realizing it, you retrace the structure of what was the Roman amphitheater 2,000 years ago. Crossing the Arno, the at-

mosphere changes again. In the Oltrarno, amid shops and quiet, lies the ‘Lost Alley’ of Via de’ Coverelli: narrow, shady, almost timeless. A litle further on, Via del Campuccio runs alongside the Giardino Torrigiani, the largest private green oasis within a European city. Here Florence slows down, breathes, and retreats.

Via Toscanella, which runs from Ponte Vecchio to Palazzo Piti, takes its name from the scientist Paolo Dal Pozzo Toscanelli and is depicted in one of the paintings by Otone Rosai, a leading figure in

20th-century Italian painting. This street has exuded art since the Renaissance, when intellectuals, writers, and architects such as Brunelleschi and Vasari gathered beneath a loggia. In the heart of the Oltrarno, around Piazza Santo Spirito, the streets speak the language of the ancient guilds: Via dei Velluti tells of merchants and precious fabrics, while the tiny Via Sguazza (also known as Chiasso Guazzacoglie) owes its name to the rainwater that pooled among the stones.

Here, according to tradition, Mona Lisa, the world’s most famous smile, was born. Just a stone’s throw from Palazzo Piti, Piazza della Passera is today one of the city’s most authentic and lively corners, filled with tratorias and small shops. But what about the name? The stories are in-

tertwined: the most innocent links it to the bird; another to an ancient local surname or nickname; and then there’s the more mischievous interpretation,

FROM NARROW ALLEYS TO CURIOUS STREETS, FLORENCE

UNVEILS TALES OF POWER, PASSION, AND EVERYDAY LIFE THROUGH TIME

typically Florentine. In popular parlance, in fact, 'passera' also had a rather explicit double meaning, and considering the liveliness of the area – with its taverns and street life – the

name might not be entirely coincidental.

For a climb to the finish (literally), head toward Costa San Giorgio. Amid breathtaking views and suspended silence, every step tells a story: Galileo observed the sky from here, while artists and intellectuals found inspiration among these stones. And then there’s Via dell’Erta Canina: steep, exhausting, unforgetable. The name says it all – a 'dog’s' climb – but the reward is a view worth every step.

Geting lost in Florence, afer all, is the best way to truly find it.

Not the Florence of postcards, but the one that still breathes among narrow alleys, forgoten stories, and unexpected glimpses. A city that never ceases to surprise, especially when you let it reveal itself without haste.

INSIGHTS INTO THE PRESENT

Palazzo

Contemporary Art

Strozzi: Rothko and Superflex Explore
TEXT Francesca Lombardi PHOTO Ela Bialkowska OKNO studio

This spring, Palazzo Strozzi presents two perspectives on contemporary art: on the one hand, the absolute interiority of Mark Rothko; on the other, the collective and environmental dimension of the Danish collective Superflex

The exhibition Rothko in Florence is the highlight of the season. It is not merely a retrospective, but a project designed to highlight the deep bond that unites the American artist with the city. More than seventy works trace Rothko’s entire career: from his figurative beginnings in the 1930s and 1940s, marked by Expressionist and Surrealist influences, to his celebrated mature paintings, where large, suspended chromatic surfaces transform painting into an emotional and spiritual experience. The highlight of the exhibition, however, lies in its connection to Florence. Rothko visited

the city in 1950, remaining deeply impressed by Beato Angelico’s frescoes in San Marco and by the space of the Vestibule of the Medici-Laurentian Library designed by Michelangelo. Two very different places, united by a rare ability: to transform space into an inner experience. The exhibition begins here, showing how his dialogue with the Renaissance influenced his artistic exploration. Rothko’s abstraction, ofen interpreted as pure American modernity, thus reveals older roots. In his rectangles of color, one senses the legacy of walls decorated with 15th-century frescoes, the harmonious construction of Renaissance space, and the tension between measure and transcendence. Color does not decorate: it envelops, breathes, and holds light and silence. Standing before the large canvases of the 1950s and 1960s, the viewer does not simply observe a painting

but crosses a mental threshold, entering a zone of perceptual concentration. It is no surprise that Rothko remains one of the most beloved artists among the public today: few, like him, manage to express themselves directly, without narrative, relying entirely on chromatic vibration. The exhibition’s itinerary also highlights the metamorphoses of his artistic language: from his early works, in which figures, interiors, and classical references reveal a still-narrative gaze, to the Multiforms of the second half of the 1940s – a decisive moment when form dissolves and allows suspended chromatic fields to emerge. From that moment on, painting becomes essential, almost inevitable. It is an apparent reduction: in reality, the more Rothko removes, the more he intensifies the emotional complexity of the works. It is no coincidence that the project extends beyond Pala-

Thefinalroomoftheexhibition, whichoffersanewinterpretationoftheartist

zzo Strozzi and directly involves the city.

At the Museo di San Marco, some works engage in a dialogue with the cells decorated by Beato Angelico’s frescoes, while at the Laurenziana, paintings and studies resonate with Michelangelo’s architecture, which so deeply impressed the artist. It is an intelligent curatorial choice: rather than merely displaying masterpieces, the exhibition situates Rothko within the sources that nourished him, reconnecting him to an ofen-forgoten European lineage. While Rothko leads toward an individual, almost liturgical silence, Superflex. There Are Other Fish In The

Sea, in the courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi, instead opens a collective reflection on the future. The Danish collective imagines a scenario in which rising sea levels will radically alter our environment and proposes architecture designed not only for humans but also for other species. Eight pink travertine columns emerge from a large pool of water, transforming the Renaissance courtyard into a suspended landscape, somewhere between ruin and anticipation. The faceted surfaces are conceived as future marine habitats: niches, handholds, shelters. The effect is both disconcerting and poetic. Where Rothko in-

vited an inward immersion, Supeflex invites us to shif our gaze and imagine a coexistence among species. The water reflects the columns, the visitors, and the sky, making the courtyard an unstable, ever-changing space, as if already transformed by climate change.

Two very different, yet complementary, exhibitions. Rothko reminds us that color can still be a form of meditation. Superflex reminds us that no contemplation is possible without rethinking our relationship with the planet. In an era dominated by speed and noise, Palazzo Strozzi brings these two urgent concerns together.

In Florence, the culture of mixed drinks has found one of its most recognizable and influential expressions. Here, the tradition of the aperitif intertwines with a vibrant contemporary scene, made up of signature cocktail bars that reinterpret classics with increasingly international flair.

In this landscape, the Negroni plays a central role; born right here in Florence, it has become one of the most famous Italian cocktails in the world: an iconic balance of biters, vermouth, and gin that continues to inspire bartenders and en-

thusiasts, both within and beyond the city. It is within this context that Cocktails in Florence is set, created to

mark the tenth anniversary of Florence Cocktail Week, conceived by Paola Mencarelli – the event’s founder

– and published by Gruppo Editoriale. The book chronicles the contemporary Florentine scene through 59 cocktail bars and hotel bars, offering an in-depth look at their most representative creations.

What emerges is an authentic portrait of the city: a journey through great classics and modern interpretations, where the Negroni coexists with new signatures of mixology and with drinks that showcase the creativity of Florentine bartenders. A journey that presents Flor nce as a laboratory of taste, blending memory, innovation, and style.

ATRIUM BAR

Located within the Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, in the heart of Palazzo della Gherardesca, the Atrium Bar is a refined lounge overlooking the Giardino della Gherardesca. Amid period furnishings, sof lighting, and live music, the cocktail ritual takes on a natural elegance. The Negroni cart served during aperitif hour is iconic, a tribute to the city. The mixology, led by Edoardo Sandri, blends technique and creativity with a contemporary touch. (Borgo Pinti, 99)

COSIMO

With a view that sweeps over the roofops of Florence, Cosimo is a roofop venue where architecture, history, and mixology come together with natural elegance. The drink menu, inspired by the women of the Medici family, features bespoke cocktails that blend seasonal ingredients with a contemporary sensibility. (Piazza Ognissanti, 3)

GIACOSA 1815

Giacosa 1815 is recognized as the birthplace of the Negroni. Here, tradition is honored but not set in stone: the mixology draws inspiration from the worlds of perfumery and cosmetics, giving rise to cocktails with a distinct sensory identity. The elegant, contemporary interiors reinterpret the historic venue with a charm reminiscent of the world’s great international bars. (Via della Spada, 15r)

GUCCI GIARDINO

Overlooking Piazza della Signoria, Gucci Giardino is Gucci’s all-day café and cocktail bar, where mixology becomes a cultural experience. Each drink is crafed from seasonal ingredients and sustainably sourced products, carefully balanced to perfection. The space, inspired by a contemporary garden, blends Renaissance influences with modern design. (Piazza della Signoria, 37r)

MANIFATTURA

The philosophy behind the Manifatura is simple: its shelves are reserved for Italian products, reflecting the artisanal expertise. The mixology thus becomes a true liquid geography of Italy, featuring spirits, biters, vermouths, and liqueurs reinterpreted with a contemporary sensibility. (Piazza di San Pancrazio, 1r)

LOCALE FIRENZE

Within the Palazzo Concini, a contem- porary vision of mixology takes shape. Behind the bar, beneath a glass ceiling reminiscent of a winter garden, the bar- tenders serve cocktails that highlight local ingredients and seasonal flavors, with mo- dern techniques and traditional methods. SANTA COCKTAIL CLUB

Santa Cocktail Club offers a discreet view of Piazza Santa Maria Novella, transforming the cocktail bar into an intimate, theatrical lounge. Sof lighting, period furnishings, and contemporary touches create a dreamlike atmosphere. The drink menu, inspired by Dante’s journey through Hell and Paradise, weaves together local ingredients, infusions, and fermented beverages into a liquid narrative of the city. (Piazza Santa Maria Novella, 3)

SAPORIUM LOUNGE

Saporium Lounge translates the local landscape into a refined mixology. The ingredients come from the gardens of Borgo Santo Pietro. Fermentation, infusions, and natural extractions become a creative language, giving rise to cocktails that transcend seasonality and capture the rhythm of the earth. (Lungarno Benvenuto Cellini, 59r)

W LOUNGE

Inside the new W Florence, the W Lounge reimagines mixology with a playful and cosmopolitan approach. The “Wonder” cocktail list is designed to amaze and intrigue, blending international influences with nods to Florence and Tuscany. The space, dominated by an electric blue bar and mirrored surfaces, amplifies the energy of the room, while the outdoor courtyard extends the experience beyond the interior. ANCIENT AND SOLEMN

Volterra: discovering a land with a distinctive character

TEXT Francesca Lombardi PHOTO Pasquale Paradiso

IN THE CIVIC ART GALLERY, HOWEVER,

TIME ACCELERATES AND SHIFTS GEARS:

ROSSO FIORENTINO’S DEPOSITION

Volterra appears suddenly, perched high on the ridge, suspended between sky and hills. It is a city that does not reveal itself immediately: it unfolds step by step, amid ancient stone, sudden silences, and views that seem to belong to another time. Here, Tuscany shows a more austere side. Its Etruscan origins remain at the heart of the city’s identity to this day. The mighty walls, monumental gates, and artifacts preserved in the museums tell of the grandeur of a civilization that made Volterra one of the most important centers of ancient Italy. Among the most fa-

mous landmarks is the Porta all’Arco, a monumental entrance marked by three mysterious carved heads. Porta San Francesco still preserves traces of the original frescoes, while Porta Fiorentina – originally named Porta Sant’Agnolo afer the nearby church – was built in the 13th century to replace Porta Diana, the ancient northern Etruscan gateway. Inside, above the arch, there is a white cross on a black background, while on the outside, the Medici coat of arms is visible. Strolling through the historic center means traversing different centuries within a few meters. The Middle Ages resurface in the elegance of Piazza

dei Priori, the civic heart of the city, dominated by the oldest town hall in Tuscany. All around, narrow alleys and stone palaces, where daily life coexists with monumental architecture. Climbing the bell tower, the view opens up over the Era and Cecina valleys, amid cultivated fields, rolling hills, and vast horizons. A few steps from the square stands the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, austere on the outside and surprising on the inside, with its rich gilded coffered ceiling and works of art that bear witness to the city’s religious and cultural significance over the centuries. Opposite, the octagonal Baptistery, clad in light mar-

ble, adds another piece to an urban ensemble of great harmony. But it is in its museums that Volterra fully reveals its soul. The Etruscan Museum Guarnacci is one of the most important in Italy and houses extraordinary artifacts: funerary urns, votive objects, and evidence of a refined and still partly mysterious civilization. Among them, The Shadow of the Evening stands out—a slender, elongated figure, almost unreal, that seems to anticipate artistic sensibilities of much later periods. In the Civic Art Gallery, however, time accelerates and shifs gears: Rosso Fiorentino’s Deposition strikes with its expressive power, featur-

ing taut bodies and vibrant colors that break the Renaissance equilibrium and open the door to a more restless and modern vision. One of Volterra’s jewels is also the Roman Theater, built in the 1st century B.C. and considered among the best-preserved in Italy. Located in the Vallebuona archaeological area, near the medieval walls, it was financed by the Caecina family, as atested by an inscription preserved in the Guarnacci Museum. It could seat about 3,500 spectators and still retains nineteen rows of seats. The archaeological area also includes the Etruscan Acropolis of Piano di Castello, with the remains of temples active

between the 7th and 3rd centuries BC, further proof of the city’s extraordinary historical continuity. The Medici Fortress, which dominates Volterra and defines its skyline, was built in 1474, immediately afer Florence conquered the city. Not only did it serve a defensive function, but it also served to monitor the city and prevent potential rebellions. It consists of two sections, the Rocca Antica and the Rocca Nuova, connected by a double curtain wall and a walkway. The Rocca Antica has a semi-elliptical layout, and restorations have highlighted its oldest defensive structures. The Rocca Nuova, commissioned by Lorenzo de’ Medici,

is a large square stone structure with corners reinforced by bastions, among which the massive circular Torre del Mastio stands out, used as a prison since ancient times. Today, the Torre del Mastio is open to visitors, while the Fortress, still a prison, remains inaccessible to the public. Alabaster deserves a chapter of its own – a light, translucent stone that has defined local crafsmanship for centuries. Quarried from the surrounding quarries and worked by Volterra artisans, it has made the city famous worldwide. In the workshops of the city center, the work continues to this day, transforming the material into vases, sculp-

tures, design objects, and unique works of art. The Balze, deep gorges carved into the clay soil, create a dramatic and ever-changing

landscape, shaped by erosion. The area around Volterra also boasts three splendid nature reserves: Berignone, an area of woods and Mediterranean

scrub rich in wildlife; Monterufoli-Caselli, a vast wooded area with great biodiversity; and the Montenero Reserve, where trails winding through holm oaks and chestnut trees lead to ancient ruins and prime vantage points for spotting roe deer and peregrine falcons.

Finally, the cuisine. Even at the table, Volterra maintains a distinct character, faithful to its land. The truffle is the undisputed star, especially during the harvesting seasons, and enriches simple dishes like pici and tagliolini. Alongside this are the flavors of rural tradition: rustic soups, game meats, tripe, and above all, cheeses.

FROM THE HILLS OF CHIANTI

TO THE LANDSCAPES OF THE CRETE SENESI

AND THE POETRY OF THE

VAL D’ORCIA

With its dirt roads winding like ribbons through the hills, gentle slopes that invite you to slow down, and breathtaking landscapes, Tuscany is a land that seems tailor-made to be experienced pedal stroke by pedal stroke. An immersive journey that, bend afer bend, lets you savor every view and scent at the rhythm of your own breath, among orderly rows of vineyards, stone walls guarding ancient stories, medieval villages, and castles overlooking the valley. Every kilometer is a discovery, every climb a promise, every descent a small moment of freedom. Among the most beautiful routes are those mapped and curated by Terra Eroica: a project that transforms the epic spirit of the famous L’Eroica – with which the Associazione Toscana Chiavi d’Oro – Clefs d’Or launched

an important partnership in 2025 – into an experience accessible year-round.

From the hills of Chianti to the geometric landscapes of the Crete Senesi and the poetry of the Val d’Orcia, traversing historic roads like the Via Francigena: a network of permanent routes that retraces the paths of the historic vintage-bike cycling tour, held every first Sunday in October, and its ‘spring edition’, Eroica Montalcino, scheduled for May 31 this year.

IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF L’EROICA

12 stages, for a total of approximately 210 kilometers. From Gaiole, afer a gentle climb through centuries-old cypress trees, you arrive at Castello di Brolio, the historic winery of the Ricasoli family; afer 17 kilometers, the ‘leccione’ stands in all its majesty, immortalized by Bernardo Bertolucci in the film Stealing Beauty. From

here, the route skirts the historic center of Siena, but nothing prevents a small detour to dismount and admire the beauty of the Duomo and Piazza del Campo.

Continuing on, the road opens up toward the Val d’Arbia, blending Etruscan heritage with the ancient site of Murlo, Roman heritage with the Via Francigena, and medieval heritage with the village of Radi. Past Bibbiano, heading toward Montalcino, you face one of the most challenging stretches: the climb to Castiglion del Bosco, made famous by the 2010 Giro d’Italia. A stop at the medieval fortress and a glass of Brunello are the prelude to a scenic descent through vineyards and dirt roads toward Torrenieri, from where you can reach the picturesque village of Buonconvento. The unique landscape of the Crete Senesi badlands accompanies you all the way to Asciano.

From here, you tackle the ‘queen’ of L’Eroica: the dirt road of Monte Sante Marie, leading to Castelnuovo Berardenga. The climb toward Vagliagli is a journey through vineyards and shady woods, continuing on to Radda in Chianti, from where, in just over 9 kilometers, you return to Gaiole. IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF EROICA MONTALCINO 12 stages, for a total of approximately 155 kilometers. The route starts from Piazza del Popolo in Montalcino and, passing through Torrenieri, enters the heart of the Val d’Orcia with the village of San Quirico d’Orcia. A stop at the iconic Chapel of the

Madonna di Vitaleta, and afer just over 5 kilometers, you arrive at Bagni Vignoni, with its medieval thermal baths. Another 10 kilometers

lead to Pienza, the ideal city envisioned by Pope Pius II. Afer a snack featuring the typical pecorino cheese, take the dirt road of the Regge to Montisi, a medieval village of Etruscan origin known

for its excellent olive oil. Head toward Trequanda and then San Giovanni d’Asso, a region famous for white truffles. From here, you can also reach Buonconvento, the starting point of the longest and most challenging stretch: nearly 38 kilometers with an elevation gain of about 700 meters, including the climb to Castiglion del Bosco, all the way to Sant’Angelo Scalo. Another 6 kilometers brings you to Sant’Angelo in Colle, from where a picturesque dirt road leads to the Abbey of Sant’Antimo and the nearby village of Castelnuovo dell’Abate. The final 9 kilometers finally take you back to Montalcino

TRAM

The tram network is an efficient and eco-friendly way to get around in Florence. The system currently offers two lines: Linea 1 (connecting Careggi and Scandicci) and Linea 2 (Peretola to Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia). Check the gestramvia.it website for stops and timetables.

TRAIN

Florence’s main railway station, Firenze Santa Maria Novella, is an important hub for high-speed trains operated by Trenitalia and Italo. From here you can reach Bologna

FORTE DEI MARMI

FLORENCE

LIVORNO SIENA

in just 35 minutes, Rome in one hour 20, Milan in one hour 50, and Forte dei Marmi in one hour 40.

AIRPORTS

The Tuscany Region has two airports: Amerigo Vespucci (Firenze Peretola) in Florence and Galileo Galilei in Pisa. Firenze Peretola is a few kilometres from the centre of the Tuscan capital, and connected by 2 tram lines, buses and taxis. If you arrive in Pisa, you can reach the capital by a combination of the Pisa Mover bus and the train, or on one of the many shutle buses that depart

from the Arrivals area and take you to Firenze Santa Maria Novella station.

FERRIES

Sea links with the Tuscan Archipelago are operated by Toremar S.p.A., which runs services to the islands from the ports of Piombino, Livorno and Porto Santo Stefano.
