MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY PRODUCTION STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR IN MAY; IT GREW 15.2% Mexico’s automotive industry stepped on the accelerator last May by increasing its production 15.2% compared to the same month of 2021, with the manufacture of 275,436 vehicles; however, it is far from the pre-pandemic figures (22.4% below) of 2019, informed the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA). According to industry data reported to Inegi, vehicle exports grew slightly 1.1% in May of this year by sending 244,643 units abroad, a figure very similar to that of 2021, when 242,020 units were exported. “The automotive industry has not been able to recover, despite the positive figures reported for May, but it still faces the problem of semiconductor supply, as well as the impact of the fall in the U.S. automotive market, after it dropped 30% during the fifth month of this year,” commented Fausto Cuevas, director of AMIA. Although the U.S. market fell sharply, Mexican auto exports grew 3.4% in May, being the only country with growth in shipments. Mexico shipped 187,626 light vehicles to the U.S. during May versus 181,420 units in 2021, which translates, for every 100 units sold in the U.S. market, 17 are Mexican. “It is not that we are in a line of constant growth; however, it was a good month of May, and we have a conservative optimism towards the months to come,” considered the executive, who estimated that the automotive industry will see recovery in the assembly of cars until 2024 when there will be greater availability of semiconductors.

CFDI 4.0 EXTENSION Today the Tax Administration Service (SAT) announced that the entry for the new electronic invoice 4.0 will be extended until January 1, 2023, in order to make it easier for taxpayers to comply with their tax obligations. Individuals and companies that are currently using the new invoicing version 4.0 are asked to continue using it in order to socialize its use. On the other hand, those who are not using it yet, are invited to continue with the transition process during the rest of the year. It is important for the taxpayer to know and keep updated at all times on their tax information contained in the Tax Status Certificate, which is like their birth certificate, since it contains identification data, location, and tax obligations, such as: • Federal Taxpayers Registry (RFC). • Name or Company Name. • Postal code of the tax domicile. • Tax regime. In case the taxpayer knows this information, they can provide it to their employer or invoice issuer without the need to present their Tax Status Certificate. It should be noted that the issuance of the payroll invoice is independent of the labor obligation that employers have to pay wages and salaries to their workers, so not submitting the invoice is not a reason for dismissal or withholding of payment. The delivery of certificates is free of charge and should not be conditioned by any public servant of the SAT for alleged debts or physical verification of the taxpayer’s address.
