Good mental health involves several key factors, including getting enough sleep, maintaining a healthy diet and engaging in regular exercise. It's also important to cultivate healthy coping mechanisms for stress and seek out support from trusted individuals when needed. Building a strong foundation for mental health is a lifelong process, but taking small steps every day can lead to significant improvements in overall well-being.

Adriana takes time to care for her own mental health by meeting up with friends, spending time with her family and traveling. “I’m a very social person,” Adriana said, with her sweet smile. “My husband Hector is my support and he’s always incredibly nice and personable. Family time is vital and we like to be homebodies all together.” Adriana has 2 beautiful daughters and she loves to go out dancing with her eldest, a successful engineer and great salsa dancer. The youngest daughter just started high school.

When it comes to goals for the future, Adriana keeps it simple. “I want to continue learning how to help people,” she said. She often uses Humanistic Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but we are reminded that new approaches to achieving better mental health are constantly being developed.

Adriana moved to Texas from Colombia in 2004. In spite of cultural and language barriers, she didn’t give up on her goals and completed additional education courses and testing, in order to be a registered professional For the last 9 years, Botero has worked primarily with people addicted to opiates, marijuana, Fentanyl and similar chemical dependencies. She completes a psychological evaluation, depending on the stage of addiction, and refers patients when needed.

“When it comes to mental heath, the patient needs to be proactive,” Botero insists. “They need to meet me halfway, at the very least, so progress can be achieved.” Coming in with that kind of attitude, the willingness to cooperate with the counselor, creates the foundation for mental health.

If you have tried to find help, but failed, there is always hope on the horizon. Don’t give up! As Adriana puts it, every individual is unique, with their own needs and circumstances. As a professional counselor, she is trained to remain calm and stay neutral. Chemical dependency can take a toll on the entire family. Botero is available to work with all necessary family members, either separately or in a safe and supportive group setting. She accepts most insurance, including Medicare, Medicaid, Aetna and BCBSTX.
