Beirut, Lebanon's capital, hosts the country's main seaport. Situated on a spur on a narrow coastal plain on the Mediterranean Sea, it is located in the middle of the Lebanese coast with Byblos and Tripoli to the North and Sidon and Tyre to the South. Despite being surrounded by mountains, it is easily accessible from anywhere in Lebanon. The capital is one of the most diverse cities in the Middle East, divided between the different Christian and Muslim branches. It also is the commercial, banking and financial center of the country,

THE PORT:
The Port of Beirut is Lebanon’s main port. It is located on the eastern part of St. George's Bay on the Mediterranean coast north of Beirut, and west of the Beirut River. It is one of the largest and busiest ports in the Eastern Mediterranean, and one of the main entry points into the country.
The Port handles 82% of Lebanon's traffic, imports and exports, and controls more than 98% of all containers handled in Lebanese ports.
As an intermediary between the Asian, European and African continents, it becomes a vital crossing point between the East and West, therefore, being one of the largest and busiest ports in the eastern Mediterranean. In the eastern Mediterranean, it represents the entry of cargo destined for Syria, Jordan, Iraq and the countries from the Gulf. It also serves as port for international trade with their neighbour Arab countries.
