Things you should know about the Distillation Process of Desalination of Seawater Desalination is the technique of removing salt from salty water (often seawater) in order to produce fresh water through an artificial process. Reverse Osmosis (RO), as well as Distillation, are the two methods of desalination that are used most frequently. There are a few different approaches to take. Each one has perks and drawbacks, but ultimately they all serve a purpose. The procedures can be categorised as either membrane-based (such as RO) or thermal-based (such as multistage flash distillation), depending on the kind of filtration used. The conventional method of desalination is known as distillation, and it involves subjecting seawater to high temperatures followed by re-condensation in order to remove salt and other contaminants.
