A good home design can help to make a home more comfortable, safe, and functional. It can also affect our mood, daily routine, and health. According to the client of this project, house is a comfort place to unwind and rest from working or doing activities outside. The clients are also a strong believers of Feng shui and crystals. They also have a large collection of clothing, bags, jewelry, tumbler, miniatures, gadgets and others, so a good display area is needed.

However, the house design is also expected to be not only a place to rest, but also a suitable place for clients to work if necessary. With the new normal in the midst of this pandemic, the design can be further adjusted based on current needs, such as a powder room area. Cleanliness is something that clients emphasize because exposure to the COVID virus can be life threatening, especially considering that there are clients who are elderly.

Pita is a developing company in the retail sector that imports well-known brands abroad. This company stands firm on trust with consumers. Therefore, building trust needs to start from internal relationships between stakeholders and employees. It is hoped that the design can improve the closeness that exists between Pita employees based on the vision, mission and corporate values. It is also hoped that the design can reduce stress felt by workers, support work culture, and be able to support clients or employees who have disabilities. Therefore, designer tried to create communal and flexible work areas to uphold the company's culture, vision and mission and so that workers can work anywhere and don't get bored.

VERNACULAR DESIGN PROJECT 2023

33

Indonesia is rich in history and cultural diversity that deserves to be appreciated. The existence of shipping and international trade in ancient times resulted in many processes of cultural acculturation, especially in architectural buildings.

As time goes by, people are starting to combine traditional buildings that are closely related to tradition with modern concepts resulting in neo-veracular designs.

Vernacular design itself can be seen in terms of form, content and/or context.

The use of furniture that characterizes Peranakan Chinese architecture with the management of materials and decoration.

The reading area gets good natural lighting through the side and sky well

Perspective | 36

The bookshelf is located away from sunlight to avoid damage to the books. use window grilles to reduce the heat of the sun but air can still circulate.

37 | Perspective & Layout

This interior design of the building is also a vernacular design, a combination of Chinese Peranakan architecture in Indonesia. Taking the form of a shop house typology that faces inward, has sky well, centrally, most activities are inside the building, has 4 sides of the building (3 buildings & 1 gate), and the entrance is on the side similar to shieyuan.

Based on its content, the reading area is the result of a translation of the sky well area where philosophically, it is considered a link between heaven and earth to bring harmony, good luck, and also an ideal container for qi (life energy). The design makes visitors feel more relaxed because you feel connected to nature and increase the sense of togetherness.

The acoustic panels on the walls are rectangular in shape, which is identical to traditional Chinese buildings, giving a more vernacular impression and adding more ornaments.

PUBLIC SPACE PROJECT 2023

The location with high levels of fish flow on Kelor Island makes it a strategic area for anglers. However, unfortunately the facilities offered to anglers are still very lacking. For this reason, the client of this project, Kebaharian Museum, also needs a fishing deck design that is expected to meet the physical and psychological comfort and safety of visitors.

Kelor Island is iconic for its Martellos which is part of Indonesia's cultural heritage. Therefore, most of the design shapes and use of materials for fishing decks are inspired by this fort. The shape of the base is a simplification of the shape of the Martello tower, which is circular and then cut into a semi-circle.

Layout | 40

Poly-carbonate roof and covered with bamboo strips to protect visitors from rain, allow sunlight to enter, and filter the hot sun.

The use of walls to divert visitors' focus to the existing natural scenery. The use of perforated bricks material is to harmonize the design with the cultural heritage ruins and are spaced so that air can still circulate.
