OVERVIEW. 1.I DON’T RELY HAVE A PREFERENCE ON WHEATHER THE BRIEF IS OF OR SPECIFIC, I JUST TAKE EACH BRIEF INDIVIDUALY AND TRY TO ANSWER IT IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE. 2.I LOVE TO WORK WITH TYPE AND USEUALLY USE A TYPE AND IMAGE RELATIONSHIP. I USEUALLY FIND IT EASIER TO PUT THINGS DOWN ON THE PAGE IF THERE IS AN IMAGE ON IT ALLREADY. HOWEVER OVER THE LAST TWO PROJECTS I FEEL I AM BECOMING MORE COMFATABLE WITH USEING PURELY TYPE. I THINK I WILL DEVELOPE THIS BY USING MORE TYPE ON IT OWN. 3. I FEEL I HAVE BEEN MOST SUCCESFULL ON THE MANIFESTO AND THE PHOTOGRAPHY BOOK, MY PHOTOGRAPHER TOOK A BACK SEAT IN THE DESIGN PROCESS AND ALTHOUGH THIS WAS FUSTRATEING AT TIMES IT FORCED ME TO POWER THROUGH THE MOST DIFFICULT OF CIRCUMSTANCES TO GET THE JOB DONE WITHOUT COMPROMISEING ON WHAT I WANTED TO DESIGN. IT ALSO GAVE ME CREATIVE CONTROL. I FEEL THE MANIFESTO WAS SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE I HAD TO ACT QUICKLY AND INSTINCTIVELY TO FINISH ON TIME THIS STOPED ME FROM OVERTHINKING. 4. THE MAIN PROBLEMS I’VE FACED HAVE BEEN TO DO WITH TIME, THE LONG PRODUCTS MADE ME OVER THINK AND OVER COMPLICATE DESIGNS FORTUNATELY I LEARNT TO RETURN TO MY INITIAL THUMBNAILS AND PULL THE PROJECT BACK TO A SIMPLER DESIGN. ALSO GETTING IN CONTACT WITH THE PHOTOGRAPHER, GETTING THE PHOTOGRAPHER INTERESTED IN THE BOOK AND GETTING THINGS I NEEDED FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHER WERE ALL VERY DIFFICULT. 5. I DO FEEL I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO INTRODUCE MORE OF MY PERSONALITY INTO MY WORK THIS SEMESTER, DISCOUNTING THE ONE DAY BRIEFS I FEEL ALL OF MY PROJECTS SHOW MY INTEREST IN TYPOGRAPHY AND COLOUR, EVEN WHERE THESE HAVE BEEN SUBTLE I FEEL I HAVE STILL SHOWN LOVE OF TYPE.

PHOTOGRAPHY BOOK


DANDAD 1. I CHOSE THE PACKAGING BRIEF. I WANTED TO DO THIS AS MOST OF MY PORTFOLIO IS PRINT BASED AND I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD OPPORTUNITY TO DO SOME WORK IN 3D. ONE OF THE CONSTRAINTS WAS TRYING TO FIT ALL THE LEGAL INFORMATION ONTO THE LABEL WITHOUT IT INTERFERING WITH THE DESIGN. 2. MY CONCEPT CAME FROM ME BEING IRRITATED THAT A LOT OF PACKAGING AIMED AT WOMEN RELIED TOO HEAVILY ON BEING OVERLY GIRLY, AND WAS USUALLY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PRODUCT. THIS MADE ME WANT TO CREATE A CONCEPT THAT WAS SIMPLE STRONG AND NOT OVERLY PACKAGED. CHALLENGING THE CONVENTIONS THAT WHISKY IS A MANS DRINK MADE ME THINK OF OTHER THINGS THAT WOMEN HAVE CHALLENGED IN THE PAST, WHICH LEAD ME TO VOTES FOR WOMEN AND ULTIMATELY TO THE WHISKEY FOR WOMEN CAMPAIGN IDEA. 3. I FEEL I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY ANSWERED THE BRIEF TO CREATE WHISKY PACKAGING FORT THE 21ST CENTURY WOMAN. THE PACKAGING WAS DESIGNED FOR WOMEN WHO ARE INDEPENDENT STRONG AND ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT WHISKY AND I FEEL IT REFLECTS THIS.


MANIFESTO. 1.I WAS TRYING TO COMMUNICATE A SENSE OF ME AS A PERSON, WHAT PEOPLE CAN EXPECT WHEN WORKING WITH ME. IT WAS ABOUT HOW I LIVE MY LIFE OR INTEND TO LIVE MY LIFE, AND WHAT I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT. 2. THERE WERE MANY DIFFERENT IDEAS I HAD BEFORE THIS ONE AND ENDED UP LEAVING MYSELF JUST TWO DAYS TO MAKE A BRAND NEW VERSION. HOWEVER I FEEL THAT BECAUSE I WAS FORCED TO ACT QUICKLY IMPULSIVELY AND DECISIVELY, I WAS ABLE TO CREATE SOMETHING SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE. THE PLAYFULNESS OF THE TYPE HELPS TRANSLATE MY PERSONALITY, WHILST THE CLEAN UN CLUTTERED STYLE DOESN’T GET IN THE WAY OF THE POINTS I WAS TRYING TO MAKE. I FEEL IN THE BEGINING I GOT TO BOGGED DOWN WORRYING ABOUT WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE AND THIS WAS GETTING IN THE WAY OF MY MANIFESTO. 3. I DON’T THINK ALOT OF THE POINT APPLY TO MY LIFE AS A DESIGNER. WORRYING LESS WOULD CERTAINLY HELP ME MAKE INSTINCTIVE DECISIONS AND I COULD BRING THE SCIENTIFIC ASPECT OF MY PERSONALITY INTO PRODUCTS BUT I DON’T FEEL IT WOULD BE RIGHT TO ENFORCE THIS STYLE UPON EVERY PROJECT AS IT MAY NOT BE APPROPIATE.

I THINK PEOPLE DON’T LIVE ENUF ND WAIT TOO LONG 14.I NEED TO LEARN THAT THE WORLD WILL NOT COLLAPSE IF I MAKE A MISTAKE 15.I GET BORED WHEEN THINGS AREN’T HARD 16.PART OF ME WANTS TO BE A PROFFESSOR OR HAVE A PD BUT I DON’T KNOW WHY 17.IF I WAS AN ANIMAL I’D LIKE TO BE AN ETERNAL JELLYFISH , A WHALE OR A BARHEADED GOOSE 18.MY PET PEEVE IS DUMB WOMEN 19.PEOPLE THAT DON’T KNOW ME THINK IM QUIET. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 1.I WILL DEVELOPE AND BROADEN MY TECHNICAL ABILITIES MY CONTIUEING TO UPDATE MY WEBSITE FREQUENTLY, FOLLOWING JOURNALS SUCH AS COMPUTER ARTS AND FOLLOWNG ONLINE TUTORIALS TO EXTEND MY KNOWLEDGE OF PHOTOSHOP. 2. I WIll FREQUENTLY FOLLOW BLOGS AND WEBSITES SUCH AS THE DIELINE , BEHANCE , DESIGNINSPIRATION AND GRIDNESS. 3.I BELIEVE MY PHOTOGRAPHY HAS COME ON ALOT SINCE THE START OF THE YEAR AND I WAS ABLE TO USE THIS AS PART OF THE MAGAZINE BRIEF AND IN PHOTOGRAPHING MY OWN WORK.I WILL CONTINUE TO USE AND EXPERIMENT WITH PHOTOGRAPHY. I WIL ALSO ATTEMPT TO USE PURE TYPE FOR MORE OF MY WORK. 4.I THINK I EITHER NEED TO LET GO OF ILLUSTRATION OR WORK ON IT ALOT MORE. SOMETIMES MY ILUSTRATIONS WORK WELL WITH THE BRIEF LIKE IN THE MAGAZINE BRIEF AND OTHER TIMES THEY DON’T LIKE THE MANIFESTO BRIEF.
