LEVI WATTS GRAPHIC DESIGN
OVERVIEW OF THE SEMESTER INTEGRAL ELEMENTS
PERSONALITY
Are there integral elements that often form key elements within your work – in other words how do you best generate and create your own designs/ imagery?
What are you interested in, what are you about? Do you feel you have been able to introduce your personality and interests in your work.In what creative direction do you want to proceed in the future?
The key elements within my work are my use of typography and my use of colour. Bold typography is always the integral element of a piece of graphic design that draws my attention, along with strong but limited colour use. I feel that since studying at the university of Cumbria my understanding of typography has expanded greatly and I am happy that my typography and use of colours for this semester have helped my work have a more professional feel and definite growth from where I started at the beginning of the course, hopefully I will continue to grow as a designer, and with it my confidence.
I am interested in all aspects of graphic design and attempt to keep up to date with the current trends via design blogs and magazines. The main area that particularly interests me is editorial work. I feel that I have taken more risks with layouts and typography for this semester, in comparison with previous work, although I still feel that i haven’t really injected my personality or humour into my work. I hope that im future work i will feel more confident in my abilities and won’t feel so intimidated to set a foot wrong.
SUCCESS What are your strengths? Where have you been most successful? What do you think was the reason for that positive experience? I think i have been most successful in my self directed briefs this semester. Compared to last year when the thought of a brief that was too open ended scared me i think i have performed best this year with the istd projects where we were given a lot of room to bully the brief. I also feel that my self directed dissertation project has shown a lot of growth as i feel i have attempted to take more risks within the project.
