There are 3 different theories about how the moon was created. They are the following: Accretion theory - The Moon was created at the same time and from the same material as the Earth or perhaps simply broke off as the Earth was created. Capture theory - The Moon was a wandering body that formed elsewhere in the solar system, captured by Earth’s gravity as it passed close by. The last is the theory that is regarded as the most reliable by scientific sources, and that isthe giant impact hypothesis.
Earth was hit by a small planet called Theia. Theia was about the same size as Mars.
Theias iron core sank into Earths soft young core.
Theias mantle accelerated into Earths mante. However...
A significant proportion of the mantle of both was hurtled into space.
The pieces of ejected mantle began to orbit Earth.
The pieces of mantle coalesed (came together) over a century. Our moon was formed.
