Thin White Duke

Page 1

DAY TIME AT THE ‘DUKE’. Besides having the fanciest women’s WC you’ll probably ever encounter, Thin White Duke is abnormally lively during the day. The patrons consist of well dressed men and women, all consuming a fair amount of coffee and a dash of wine. Expect quick seating and attentive service paired with the ambience of rustic, neo-victorian decor. A thoughtful and various menu, designed with a victoriana flare to tempt any clipart enthusiast. As well as gracefully presented and portioned meals, the price is reasonable and doesn’t let money slip right out of your hand. A meal worth a mention is the Chicken in a Basket. Housed in a wire chicken, a portion of fries, three breaded chicken breasts and sides of beans with chorizo and coleslaw. Amusing and appetising to say the least. A daytime visit to Thin White Duke is a worthy journey. However, you don’t get David Bowie serving you the Crispy Beef.

AN EVENING AT THE ‘DUKE’ As darkness falls, Thin White Duke is no longer taken over by middle aged women that once claimed the window seats. The night is more appealing to young adults and the bar houses interesting individuals, many with beards and there’s always one person clad in tweed. In the dim light, more features of the Duke appear. The dark corners where various arm chairs are positioned transform from curious to homely. The night creates an inviting appeal, much like a tavern. The bar offers many ales, spirits and beers all of which are priced well and taste even better. Indulge in the true spirit of things and order The Thin White Duke. The drink of Pop Gods, Monkey 47 Gin, St-Germain Orange and tonic. Yet, again, there is no sign of David Bowie popping up from behind the bar.
