There is a variety of methods to produce electricity, the main types are nuclear power and fossil fuels. There are also more renewable sources of energy such as soler power, wind turbines and hydro electrical damns. We could even harness electricity from the earths naturally ionized atmosphere.

As you can see here, Unfortunately most of Britains electricity is generated from fossil fuels so this is the technique I shall demonstrate

In the later years of the 18th century I established the principles of three phase electrical power distribution. In 1901 an English gentleman named Charles Merz became the first Person in England to adopt the system in his Neptune Bank power station near Newcastle. By 1912 it was the largest of its kind in Europe.

This is an Electric power plant - where electricity is generated.

The fossil fuels are burnt at an alarming rate to heat a vessel of water which creates steam. The steam is then directed onto a turbine at a high pressure.

The steam rotates the turbine on a shaft connected to a gigantic electro magnet. Wire rotates inside a magnetic field causing an electric charge.

Generator turns kinetic energy into electrical energy

The generator kicks out electricity at around 25,000 volts. To stop resistence over miles of wires and pylons the current must be lowered and the voltage upped to around 400,000. This is done by feeding the electricity through a transformer.

The electricity then travels through pylons to the sub stations.

The electricity is now heading into youre home, either through high line wiring or underground earth wires. On its way in it must be monitered to regulate how much each house is spending, it passes through a meter which takes a reading.

As electric canot to be stored it has to be summoned to where it is needed. This is done by causing a positive charge, electricity’s negatively charged electrodes are attracted to a positive charge. When a socket is switched on this creates the charge that attracts the electrodes.
