Through the music and theatre program, Grier girls have a wide range of opportunities to perform and perfect their skills as musicians, singers, and actors, and to experience the camaraderie of working with classmates to stage a performance. Like the dance and fine art programs, music and theatre are open to all, whether you are experienced or a beginner interested in exploring a new talent. Together, we celebrate the accomplishments of our performing artists at Grier and enjoy the rich music and stagecraft they share.
Listen to Your Song
Students participate in making music through music courses, private lessons, and performing ensembles. Accomplished professional musicians themselves, the faculty works closely with students to expand their knowledge and mastery. In the intensive program, students meet five times a week for individualized voice or instrumental instruction. Grier’s new music building provides beautiful practice rooms and performance spaces. Music ensembles perform throughout the year, with the popular Rock Fest, a Grier tradition, bringing the community out for a showcase of students’ composing and performing talents.
Stage Your Story
The theatre program offers acting and stagecraft classes, an annual musical, a musical theatre review, and dramatic productions that give every student the chance to act, sing, join an instrumental ensemble, dance, manage backstage, or create costumes. Musical productions in particular bring together a large cast of students in an exciting collaborative effort. Grier girls learn all aspects of what goes into a successful production as they work together on such plays and musicals as Little Women, The Diary of Anne Frank, Chicago, Sister Act, and Newsies
