Discover Your Medium

The visual arts at Grier encompass painting, sculpture, graphic art, print-making, photography, video production, and ceramics. Other unique classes and opportunities include fiber art and weaving, costume and fashion design, jewelry-making, and metalwork. Grier girls immerse themselves in independent projects, working in our beautiful second floor open-plan studio space with abundant natural light. Separate studios for graphic art, ceramics, metalwork, and batik give access to state-of-the-art equipment and allow for sustained study.

Students enrolled in the signature program spend afternoons in the studio working on portfolio projects in their chosen medium. Through completion of AP Art and Design, students are prepared to submit portfolios with their college applications. Many Grier graduates gain entrance to top arts schools and go on to careers in the field. Visiting artists throughout the year provide important models for creative practice. Regular museum and gallery trips to New York, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. further enhance students’ appreciation for many art forms.
