ane Chandler, Penny Kater and Graham Murphy represented the Gresford Community Group at the State Government Hunter community cabinet meeting in February this year. They were there to raise community concerns about visitor safety and site degradation in the Allyn River Forest Park which is controlled by the Forestry Corporation NSW. The delegation was fortunate to have the opportunity to address the cabinet and provided a detailed submission to George Souris Minister for Tourism, Robyn Parker Minister for The Environment and Katrina Hodgkinson Minister for Primary Industry and Small Business. The submission was sparked by a letter Mr Jamie Derkenne wrote to the Dungog Chronicle, ‘A Lot of TLC is Needed’ published on 19 February, 2014. In the letter Mr Derkenne brought attention to the worsening conditions in areas where people camp along the Allyn River in the State Forest. After the community cabinet meeting Graham Murphy commented “We now have three politicians accountable to take action about the Forest Park’s condition. We look forward to getting some answers and some action.” Read more about the submission inside.
