The enduring legacy of Gregory Terrace is found in generations shaped by faith, inspired by service and united through the spirit of Blessed Edmund Rice.

The Gregory Terrace Foundation unites and empowers the Terrace Family to create an environment that cultivates gentlemen of courage, empathy, and vision. By partnering with the College, we raise funds to help develop leading educational facilities, and create opportunities for students who otherwise could not attend Terrace.
Our work and our decisions are focused on four priorities:
Storytelling - creating a compelling narrative that inspires a culture of giving at Terrace.
Raising funds – increasing financial support for the Building and Bursary Funds.
Building community relationships – nurturing lifelong, enduring relationships with the community thereby mobilising support for the College.
Ensuring responsible stewardship – commitment to governance principles, and responsible planning and management of the funds entrusted to the Foundation.
Now in our 151st year, St Joseph’s College has a long and proud history of service and philanthropy. Brother Ambrose Treacy moved through the gold fields of early Australia, asking prospectors to sponsor his mission of providing education for Catholic boys who would otherwise go without. Since that time, facilities such as Maroon Outdoor Education Centre, Tennyson, Waterford Place and most recently, Margaret Rice Place, have become a reality because of the enormous generosity of those in our community. Without such support, we would simply be unable to provide the breadth of opportunity the Gentlemen of Terrace are so privileged to benefit from.
In 2026, the College Foundation celebrates its 40th year and this milestone provides an opportunity for us to reflect on the Foundation’s incredible impact over these years. Schools are challenged to remain contemporary and always seek improvement through people, processes and facilities. The Foundation has had an enormous impact on the College’s facilities through financial support of the Master Plan, ensuring students learn in the best possible environment and allowing the College to minimise fees.
Thanks to the support of the Foundation through its Bursary program, the College has also been able to fund the education of dozens of young men for whom a Terrace Education would never have been a possibility. Every year, around 30 young men benefit from the Bursary program and are proud to call Terrace their school. It is with great pride that we congratulate our Bursary recipients when they graduate and move to life beyond school and all its opportunities.
The College’s motto, ‘To Serve God is Wise’ calls us to serve the College community in a variety of ways. One powerful way we can do so is through a gift to the College Foundation and I thank those who have blessed the College and its students through your kindness. The legacy of our founder Blessed Edmund Rice is more than 55 schools Australia-wide and Terrace is one of these wonderful learning institutions. Edmund would undoubtedly be deeply proud of those who have kept his legacy alive.
As we move beyond our 150th year, the spirit of philanthropy at Terrace is stronger than ever and I sincerely thank you for your generosity and ongoing support of our great College. Live Jesus in our hearts, forever.
Mr Damien Fall
COLLEGE PRINCIPAL & FOUNDATION DIRECTOR

As we reflect on the College's sesquicentenary year, we are reminded that philanthropy at Terrace has always been about more than dollars raised. It is about the Terrace Family and a shared commitment to ensuring future generations of young men can benefit from the opportunities a Terrace education provides.
In 2025, the Gregory Terrace Foundation received more than $1.56 million in philanthropic support. While this is a significant achievement, the generosity, belief and spirit behind every gift are what matter most. Each contribution, regardless of size, reflects a commitment to the values of Terrace and a desire to create opportunities that will have a lasting impact on young men's lives.
Inspired by the charism and legacy of Blessed Edmund Rice, the Foundation supports the mission of the College through bursaries and transformative educational initiatives. Through the generosity of our donors, we are helping ensure deserving young men can access a Terrace education while also providing facilities, resources and learning environments that enrich the experience of every student.
One of the highlights of the year was Giving Day 2025, which brought together 371 donors who contributed more than $403,000. Beyond the funds raised, the day demonstrated the strength of the Terrace Family, with Old Boys, parents, grandparents, staff and friends united in a shared commitment to the future of the College
The continued success of the Together We Can parent pledge program was equally encouraging. The generosity of current families remains one of the Foundation's greatest strengths, helping create opportunities for today's students while building a legacy for future generations.
The establishment and ongoing support of bursaries remains central to the Foundation's mission. During the College's sesquicentenary year, the creation of the 150 Year Bursary was a particularly meaningful milestone. It stands alongside community-funded bursaries that continue to transform lives and reflects our belief that a Terrace education should be accessible to deserving young men, regardless of financial circumstance.
On behalf of the Gregory Terrace Foundation, I extend my sincere gratitude to every donor, volunteer and supporter who contributed during 2025. Your generosity is strengthening the College today while helping secure its future for generations to come.
The story of Terrace has always been one of community, belonging and shared purpose. Through your support, that story continues.
CHAIR, THE GREGORY TERRACE FOUNDATION

When Margaret Rice Place opened in 2025, it marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Terrace and its youngest students. Purpose-built to meet the educational, pastoral and developmental needs of boys in Years 5 and 6, this new precinct provides an environment where students can learn, grow and flourish during their formative years at the College.
From collaborative learning spaces and specialist facilities to enhanced academic and pastoral support, Margaret Rice Place is helping students engage more deeply in their learning, while providing teachers with greater flexibility to deliver innovative educational experiences. Students now benefit from dedicated facilities including a Library, STEAM laboratory and specialised learning spaces, while expanded support services ensure every Terracian can thrive.
The impact of Margaret Rice Place can be seen not only in the classroom, but across every aspect of student life. By creating spaces designed specifically for younger learners, the precinct is helping students build confidence, curiosity and connection during these important early years of their Terrace education.
Margaret Rice Place has not only enhanced opportunities for our younger students, but also strengthened their connection to the broader College experience. Regular interactions with College Captains, House Leaders and Year 11 Buddies ensure students remain firmly connected to the traditions, relationships and spirit that define a Terrace education. Access to Carrick Oval across Quarry Street provides additional space for recreation and physical activity, further supporting the holistic development of every Gentleman of Terrace.
This outcome has only been possible because of the extraordinary generosity of the Terrace Family. At its heart, Margaret Rice Place reflects what can be achieved when a community comes together to invest in young people.
It is the story of parents and caregivers making annual commitments through the Together We Can current pledge program, donors participating in Giving Days, families purchasing commemorative bricks to leave a lasting legacy, and benefactors stepping forward to champion a bold vision for Terrace. Each contribution, regardless of size, has played an important role in creating experiences that will benefit generations.
Alongside the support of families and donors, major gifts from benefactors including Mr Scott Flynn (GT 1987) and his family have helped bring the vision for Margaret Rice Place to life. Their contributions, alongside hundreds of others, reflect the strength of a community united by a shared belief in the power of a high-quality Catholic education.
Because of our donors, hundreds of boys are gaining access to experiences and opportunities that will shape the next chapters of their own Terrace story. For many years to come, Margaret Rice Place will stand as a symbol of kindness, generosity and compassion — values authentically lived by all within the Terrace Family.
Born in a South Sudanese refugee encampment, Melad Arop's (GT 2017) story began far from the classrooms, playing fields and opportunities that would later define his Terrace experience. His family had fled conflict in their homeland, spending two years in a refugee camp before eventually settling in Australia and building a new life.
Years later, following in the footsteps of his older brother, Deng Arop (GT 2012), Melad joined the Terrace Family in Year 8 in 2013 after successfully applying for a bursary.
From the outset, Melad embraced everything the College had to offer. Cross Country, Track and Field, Football and Basketball quickly became central to his experience. He immersed himself in College life, formed lifelong friendships and discovered a passion for mountain biking through Outdoor Education that remains with him today.
One of his fondest memories is travelling to Melbourne with the Track and Field team in Year 8. "It was my first time on a plane," he recalls. "The camaraderie and competition were incredible."
The greatest challenge of Melad's Terrace journey came the following year when his mother passed away after a battle with cancer. The loss was devastating.
In the days that followed, the Terrace Family rallied around Melad and his family, delivering meals and providing support.
"We hadn't eaten anything. We weren't even thinking about food," Melad remembers. "It was a small gesture that made a huge difference."
For months afterwards, Melad struggled with anger and loss. During a Year 10 Outdoor Education mountain biking immersion, he found something he had not felt since his mother's passing: peace.
Through the challenge of the ride, he discovered an outlet for his grief and a way to move forward. "It was the first time I had felt peace in a long time."
Today, Melad is a business owner in Brisbane, having built a career in enterprise IT before establishing his own company. He hopes to create opportunities for young people beginning their careers, just as others did for him.
Earlier this year, Melad joined fellow Old Boys at the annual Old Boys' Lunch, reconnecting with friends, forging new connections and celebrating the bonds of the Terrace Family.
For Melad, Terrace provided far more than an education. It offered friendship, opportunity and a community that remains part of his life today.

On 20 August 2025, more than 370 members of the Terrace Family came together to support Giving Day during the College's 150th year.
Supported by $110,000 in matching gifts from the Mann Family, Dyer Family and the Gregory Terrace Old Boys' Association, the Gregory Terrace Foundation set out to raise $300,000 for two initiatives that would help shape the next chapter of Terrace.
By the end of the day, 371 donors had made 393 gifts, contributing more than $403,000 and exceeding the target by over $100,000. With gifts ranging from $1 to $75,000 and a median gift of $200, Giving Day's success was driven by broad participation across the College community.
The funds raised will have a lasting impact through support for two important initiatives.
The first is the construction of a covered outdoor basketball court. Planned for commencement during the 2026/27 summer holidays, the facility will provide students with a versatile space for recreation, physical activity, assemblies and community gatherings, enhancing the student experience for generations to come.
The second is the establishment of the 150 Year Bursary. Created as part of the College's sesquicentenary celebrations, the bursary will provide a deserving young man with the opportunity to benefit from a Terrace education, that may otherwise be out of reach. It is anticipated that the recipient of the 150 Year Bursary will commence at Terrace in 2027.
Together, these initiatives honour Terrace's rich history while investing in its future. In a milestone year for the College, our community reflected a shared commitment to ensuring that incoming generations of Terracians have access to the opportunities and experiences that have long defined a Terrace education.
The reach of Giving Day extended beyond Queensland, with contributions received from donors in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Victoria and even as far as Italy. This breadth of support echoed the enduring connection that Old Boys, families and friends maintain with Terrace wherever they may be in the world.
Behind the scenes, the campaign was supported by a dedicated group of volunteers and advocates. Foundation Student Ambassadors played an important role in promoting philanthropy and fostering a culture of giving within our current student cohort. Members of the Foundation Board, College Leadership Team and Development Office also generously volunteered their time and energy throughout the campaign.
As Terrace celebrated its sesquicentennial year, Giving Day 2025 demonstrated that the spirit of generosity inspired by Blessed Edmund Rice continues to create opportunities for current and future generations of Terracians.

For generations, the Terrace Family has been shaped by community, connection and generosity. Among them is the Baynton family, whose connection to Terrace spans three generations, six decades and an extraordinary 45 years of enrolment at the College.
The Baynton family’s Terrace story began in the 1950s, when Libby Baynton’s father, Neil Reinhardt (GT 1953), attended the College. In the years that followed, Libby’s three brothers, four nephews and now four sons have continued that connection, with the youngest, Harvey, set to graduate in 2027.
Alongside this enduring family connection has been a longstanding commitment to supporting future generations of Terracians through the Foundation’s ‘Together We Can’ parent pledge program.
Since their eldest son, Archibald, commenced at Terrace in 2014, Libby and Greg Baynton have made a gift to the Foundation every year. By the time their youngest son graduates, the family will have supported the College through 14 consecutive years of giving.
Their generosity reflects the impact of regular giving and the important role sustained philanthropy plays in strengthening the future of Terrace. Through ongoing support from families like the Bayntons, the Foundation can continue to provide bursaries, enhance learning environments and create opportunities for generations of Terracians to come
Over the past decade, 51 donors have supported the Gregory Terrace Foundation for 10 years or more, contributing cumulative gifts exceeding $2 million. This remarkable achievement highlights the collective impact of sustained giving across the Terrace community.
More than financial support, regular giving reflects a shared belief in the value of a Terrace education and a commitment to empowering future generations.
The Baynton family’s story is a powerful reminder that philanthropy is not defined by a single gift, but by the lasting impact created through generosity sustained over time.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the 51 members of the Terrace community whose support has remained steadfast for a decade or more. Your commitment reflects the spirit of stewardship that has sustained Terrace for more than 150 years.
The formation of the Gentlemen of Terrace has always been at the heart of a Terrace education. Through service, leadership and a commitment to others, students are encouraged to contribute to something greater than themselves.
The Foundation Student Ambassador Program provides students with an opportunity to connect with the wider Terrace Family, while gaining a deeper appreciation of the generosity that helps sustain the College.
Following its launch in 2024, the program continued to grow in 2025, with more than 100 students from Years 11 and 12 volunteering as Foundation Student Ambassadors.
Throughout the year, ambassadors participated in a range of activities, including thank you phone calls, handwritten notes and Queensland Philanthropy Week initiatives. Together, students contributed 346 hours of service, the equivalent of almost 50 school days, helping to recognise the many donors whose support helps make opportunities at Terrace possible.
The program offered students a unique insight into the role philanthropy plays at Terrace. Each year, more than 1000 donors support bursaries, scholarships and projects that enhance the student experience. The recent opening of Margaret Rice Place is one visible example of the impact that this generosity can have on the life of the College.
For many ambassadors, the most rewarding aspect of the program was the opportunity to engage directly with Old Boys and donors. These conversations created meaningful connections between generations of Terracians. Donors had the opportunity to hear firsthand about the student experience, while students gained a deeper understanding of the people whose generosity continues to shape the College.
More importantly, the program reinforced the values that underpin a Terrace education. Through expressing gratitude and engaging with members of the wider Terrace community, students developed a stronger appreciation of service, community and the importance of giving back.
The success of the Foundation Student Ambassador Program is a reflection of the enthusiasm and commitment of the students who volunteered their time throughout the year. Through their involvement, they strengthened the bonds that connect students, Old Boys, families and friends of the College, while helping ensure that those who support Terrace know their generosity is valued and appreciated.

There are many ways to give to the Gregory Terrace Foundation. By making a pledge to Terrace, families, Old Boys and friends of the College are helping to create opportunities that will benefit generations of Terracians. Regular, tax-deductible contributions provide the Foundation with the certainty needed to invest in bursaries and strategic priorities that strengthen the College. Much like a bequest, a pledge is an expression of faith in the future of the College and a commitment to ensuring that future students can access the same opportunities that have shaped so many lives. Collectively, these commitments have a powerful and lasting impact on our community.

$1.2 MILLION new pledges in 2025

For more than 150 years, the generosity of the Terrace Family has helped shape the College we know today. Through gifts made during their lifetimes and through Gifts in Wills, members of our community have ensured that future generations can benefit from the same opportunities and experiences that have defined a Terrace education.
Over the years, bequests have played an important role in supporting the College's growth and development. Among these was a significant gift from James Joseph Denis Mahoney, whose generosity helped bring a number of important initiatives to life, including the launch of Eddie's Van in 2004.
A Gift in Your Will is an opportunity to create a lasting legacy at Terrace, helping future generations of Terrace Gentlemen learn, grow and flourish within a values-based education grounded in the Edmund Rice tradition.
